“What a special place!”

Reviewed 14 Apr 2016

Our family of 4 stayed here over Thanksgiving week and had the best time. Penny is very organized and everything was perfect, love the ambiance. We love the old Florida feel and the tiki hut is the best. Our teenage boys had a fantastic time swimming in the clear water right off the dock. We have stayed in other mobile homes at Key Largo Kampground but this one is by far the best. One of the great things about this location is the proximity to Penekamp park, we brought our kayaks and spent many days on the mangrove water trails throughout the area. A wonderful experience!

Owner's reply: Glad you enjoyed your time and are coming again this year. Thank you.

“Great place in a great location”

I really enjoyed our month here, very well organized and clean. We really felt at home. We had a few rainy days, and for that would have wished that the TV was bigger, but other than that, everything was perfect, Thanks again!

“Fantastic Home!”

Reviewed 4 Jan 2016

We just spent a week at this home, and everything was exactly as advertised and more! The property was very clean and well taken care of. The Key Largo Campground had very friendly residents and staff, and a wonderful pool. The tiki hut dock was fantastic for dinners on the canal, and we rented a sea kayak that was delivered right to the dock! There were great paddling areas accessible from the canal as well! We also snorkeled right off the dock in the crystal clear, clean canal waters. We saw some awesome Rainbow Parrot fish, and black and yellow striped Sergeant Major fish! What an experience for us and our 9 year old twin boys. We highly recommend Playa Penelope to anyone considering making Key Largo their home base during a trip to the paradise known as the Florida Keys!

“Same Time Next Year !”

Reviewed 19 Nov 2015

This is the third year that we have been fortunate enough to enjoy spending a month at Playa Penelope and we have already contacted Penny to arrange for a month in 2016. That pretty much summarizes how much we enjoy our visits. Penny and Keith provide a well maintained, comfortable home away from home and the location - right on a saltwater canal that leads to the ocean- is hard to beat. Morning coffee under the chickee, reading and watching the sunrise is a particular favorite and an afternoon swim in the canal is always fun. The grounds and pool area are well maintained. Grocery shopping and restaurants are within walking distance though this gated community is so well tucked away that you never realize the proximity of the world outside. Penny has always been pleasant and accommodating and her obvious concern for making sure that her guests have what they need is reflected in the care with which she prepares Playa Penelope for your stay. We'll be back!

Owner's reply: Again we are pleased to have Sally and Frank choose to spend their vacation at Playa Penelope. They go the extra mile in taking care of the place like it is their own, even watering the neighbor's tree in time of need! We look forward to their return. Thank you both.

“Great location”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2015

This was the perfect place for us. Penny was great to work with and very organized. The location couldn't have been better. We scuba the reefs then back to the rental for a swim in the cannel. Very close to every we needed. Dive shops and dinning. We go to the Keys every year, and you will not find a better place for your money.

Owner's reply: Thank you for this review. You kept us up to date with the groups' activities and really used every day to its fullest! We hope you can return.

“Love this place!”

Reviewed 13 May 2015

It's superb. I come here every year for March and April. It's a spacious unit, one of the largest at this site, and very comfortable. The swim ladder at the dock is so easy to use. It adds to the fun of swimming and snorkeling. There's also a little beach a few steps down the lane where you can keep and launch a kayak. Kayaking through the mangroves is a magical experience. There's also a nice swimming pool. I especially enjoy being able to step right outside the house and relax and have dinner on the dock under the tiki. Everyone at the campground and marina is very friendly. You feel a sense of community. Depending on the season you come, there are many activities, such as water aerobics, yoga and crafts. I highly recommend this place.

Owner's reply: Carole has been a wonderful guest caring for our place like it is her own- well it is every Spring! Thank you Carole.

“Two Months in Paradise”

Reviewed 13 Mar 2015

We stayed at Playa Penelope Jan and Feb of 2015 and rental was exactly as advertised. Rental has everything we needed for a great two month stay, considering the weather we came back to we wished it had been three. Penny was wonderful to do business with, you will feel like she is a long lost friend from the first contact.

Owner's reply: It was a pleasure having you this winter. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay!

“Playa Penelope - As Advertised”

Reviewed 20 Jan 2015

Playa Penelope was a pleasant and peaceful little retreat. Penny's efforts to assure that the trip went well and that all information about the Florida Keys and access to her vacation home was readily available. We appreciated the fact that Penny sent periodic updates and suggestions for things to do while in Key Largo and the Keys in general. Easy, close access to a supermarket, restaurants and a mini farmer's market made the accommodations even better. The "cottage" was on a boat canal with wonderful views of tropical fish and an occasional tiny jellyfish floating by. The neighbors were all respectful of each other's desire for quiet and relaxation. A very accessible, large pool within the campground was a wonderful respite from the heat. This is an ideal retreat for a couple to get away from the craziness and cold of a Pennsylvania winter for our anniversary. Thanks Penny! We would definitely return in the future if possible.

Owner's reply: Thank you for the kind review. It's funny to think of a "respite from heat" in the middle of the winter! I am so glad you both enjoyed your stay and would consider returning- not easy with limited time away from work and so many places to visit.

“Another Month in Paradise”

Reviewed 13 Nov 2014

We are so fortunate to have been able to again spend a month at Playa Penelope, and just like last year, we hope to be able to return -same time next year! We've spent much time sitting on the dock under the chickee watching the water & the world go by, enjoying breakfasts, lunches, and dinners there, toasting sunsets, and enjoying friends. We've spent many hours riding our bikes away from the park, paddling our kayaks north and south from the KLK waterway, and exploring this beautiful Key Largo area. The condo itself is comfortable & inviting with everything you need to enjoy your visit. This year, a new range & new gas grill made life especially easy. Penny takes great care in making sure that everything is ready and that you have all of the information you need to get the full benefit of your visit . Maps, charts, brochures, reference books, and flyers galore assist you in finding great places to visit, eat, and enjoy in the Upper Keys. -and if you have a question she's always available by phone. The other owners, renters & staff at KLK have been friendly and helpful. Facilities at KLK are kept in good shape -the beaches even received a new bed of sand while we were here. It's amazingly peaceful and quiet, a wonderful respite from the busy world we -and many visitors -leave behind. We wholeheartedly recommend Playa Penelope to those who want to get away from the hustle & bustle to enjoy some time in a comfortable, well-maintained unit located in a South Florida tropical paradise. Contact Penny, and "C'mon down!"

Owner's reply: Sally and Frank have taken care of our place like it was their own. We are so happy they were able to return and enjoy so many activities. Thank you Sally for the glowing review!

“Loved It... Loved It....Loved It”

Reviewed 1 Oct 2014

It was time for a father & son get away. We brought our boat and stayed a week right on the water. The price is what sold me. The amenities, functionality, location, and super nice owner will bring me back again. I loved having my boat at my own private dock. I could see it and the water from the living room. We had BBQ and swimming and our own tiki hut deck. The condo was perfect! Everything we needed was there. Penny's communication and thoroughness was beyond expectations. She wrote to us all the details well ahead of our visit including tips on diving and fishing. She had everything waiting for us with the staff at the gated community office. Instructions were clear on everything from Wi-Fi to the all-important A/C once inside. Everything worked. The condo was clean, comfortable, well organized. I felt so well taken care of it was like we were family. It was truly like staying at the home of a family member. Thank you so very, very much. Charles Ramsey

Owner's reply: You have me excited with your kind review! It's gratifying that you felt right at home- that was our goal. I hope you can come again. Thank you!

Ahhh the Florida Keys.. Heaven!!! Penny's place is wonderful, a great little spot to get away and relax. The house has everything you need for a great stay away. I went snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, to the beach at Bahia Honda Key and had a brilliant day in key west about a 2.5 hour drive. So many good food options and bars to watch the sunset. Really good times, highly recommend!!!

We spent a week loving the Key Largo life from a tiki hut on the water. We rented a canoe and a kayak from Paddle the Florida Keys (kayak) and Florida Bay Outfitters (canoe) and tied them up to our backyard dock. We paddled from the Kampground canal through the mangrove water trails to John Pennekamp State Park, relaxed dockside and watched fish swimming in the canal, and explored the Keys from our home base in the Kampground. We went snorkeling with the Pennekamp outfitters, taking a boat five miles out to sea to swim in the reef, spotting tropical fish, barracuda, stingray, live coral, and incredible blue water. We grilled out on our dock on the canal, and enjoyed the view. We kayaked through Blackwater Sound, under US 1, and into a residential canal to see three manatees who hang out in the warmer (if murky) water. We drove to Key West for sunset and dinner at Le Maison de Pepe, enjoying Cuban cuisine and live salsa music (and the best Cuban coffee on earth). We bought a whole key lime pie from Mrs. Mac's Kitchen with extra whipped cream and watched Gilligan's Island, feeling happily ensconced on a tropical island ourselves. We found the Kampground itself charming and efficient, filled with pelican statues decorated with Santa hats and whimsical lights and wreaths decorating doors, trailers, and tents. The heated pool was delightful once the sun set and the day turned cool. A row of tiki huts on the canal is a most welcome sight to greet boaters returning from a day on the water. Penny was wonderful to work with. She made the process of renting her tiki hut in paradise a breeze. She was communicative and helpful. Her directions were clear and easy to follow. The binder she left of menus and attractions was equally user-friendly! You were wonderful, Key Largo Kampground. We'll be back soon!

We've been fortunate to travel for several years in the US, Europe and S. America. Our stay with you was among the best. Morning coffee under the Tiki Hut was a great start to a day of SCUBA, snorkel, or just exploring. The simple touches from your helpful notes, to the decor, and so much more really make you feel at home and relaxed. The area is quiet at night so we always got a good rest for the next days adventures, and all the neighbors were warm and friendly. There's a lot more we could say, but the best thing to do if you want to visit the Keys is to call Penny right away! PS. We wrote this with 2nd thoughts. The calendar is filling up quick and making it difficult for us to get back here! :-)

Our stay was exactly what we needed, full of relaxation. The photos don't do the dock justice, I spent hours watching the fish in the crystal clear water, and swam straight from the dock. The home had everything we needed, including a rotisserie to cook our Christmas dinner. We enjoyed the local eateries, including the Pilot House and Hobos. We used a local taxi ($5 pick up then $2 a mile) so we could both enjoy a drink. Other days we stocked up at the super market and rented DVDs for the evening. The neighbours are really friendly, even offering a boat ride. Penelope was a wonderful host, even calling to see what restaurants where open Christmas Day for us. I would definitely go back if we get the chance.

The place was nice and cute, perfect for a little getaway. With a car, easy to get to a number of different destinations--food, Pennekamp State Park, etc. The home was clean and offered everything you might need--kitchen, bath, etc. The campground also has a little beach and pool. The owner provides a lot of clear instructions about how to arrive at the home and utilize the various things in the house.

Our host Penelope wrote really nice letters about the accommodation and different tips on what to do in Key Largo. She sent videos as well. A very hospitable host who let us use the TV, Wifi and a phone that was free within the US & CA. There was a whole basket of brochures and other useful information for a tourist. It was clean and nice - a lovely "summer cottage" with a prime location. We wrote several letters to each other before we went there Close access to the large pool and laundry facilities. Quiet area with no distractions.

Your place was fabulous and well explained, etc... Everything we needed. The proximity was what we really enjoyed.
I wish I could tell you more to do, add as a past B&B owner, but we all really enjoyed our stay, I cannot think of what to add. Kids enjoyed it as much as we did, my son in particular loved your house.

"Penny's place is like paradise. Everything one could ask for. Penny was always responding very quick on every question we've had. Swimming in the canal was great. Had some nice trips from there, snorkeling at Pennekamp's. Everything was as described and better. Very clean and neat. Wished we could've stayed longer. Also the neighbours were very friendly and communicative. Thank you, Penny! We highly recommend your wonderful place in paradise."
