“New Zealanders on Maui”

Reviewed 21 Aug 2016

There was my wife and I plus our 19 and 21 year old daughters on our first visit to Maui. We loved Koa Resort because it was not one of the huge hotels or tower blocks that dominate the beach landscape. The apartment was ground floor so in a two storey condominium so we could come and go easily, we barbequed on the resort facilities and eat our evening meals on our deck despite a fully equipped kitchen, it was heaven. The resort has a great pool but is quiet, in a good location on Kehei but you need a vehicle to get around. A short drive to the shops but good for accessing other Maui tourist features. Instructions on how to get there and use the facilities were great, Kellie rang us on the last day to make sure everything was OK but otherwise left us to quiet enjoyment. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to enjoy Maui away from the "resort" scene.

“Great Location”

Reviewed 27 Aug 2015

This resort provides a great location to the beach, yet it also seemed secluded and quiet. I did not get a chance to use facilities such as pool or tennis courts. The property was scenic with many beautiful trees and shrubs. The condo itself had a beautiful lanai that I enjoyed sitting on each morning. The inside was decorated a little too "beach kitsch" for my taste- would have been a little more relaxing with less stuff on the walls, but otherwise nice. The bed mattress was a little firm for my liking a the pillow a little flat. Only found out the last night there were extra pillows in the closet (which I found one that was more comfy). The amenities in the house: was surprised that "air condition" meant a unit in the living room, rather than central air, but suppose this is common for Maui. It was a little stuffy in the bedrooms at night, even with windows open and fans going (guess that's August heat/humidity). There was only 1 "beach" chair, but it was bulky and cumbersome and something I would never take to the beach. Also, only 1 boogie board. Would have liked a pair of each. The kitchen was plenty stocked with stuff to cook (except couldn't find a wine bottle stopper!) and beach towels/linens were all there. We packed the cooler provided with waters each day for our journeys, so it was nice to have that provided. We didn't know the grocery wouldn't carry bags so also would've been nice to know upon arrival. Would have liked a 3-ring binder with recommendations of owner/other guests for places to eat, restaurant menus, things to do, etc. However, we booked our own adventures on the first day. We would have gladly left advice for the next guests on what we did and where we ate if we could. Checking into/out of the condo- process was easy. The keypad on the door made it nice if one of us wanted to come/go at different times, so we wouldn't have to worry about finding a key. Wish the resort would have had recycling, or atleast the unit provided a recycle bin with directions to the nearest recycling center. This seemed very important in other parts of Maui and as an avid environmentalist, wanted to do my part. I had to Google MapQuest the nearest location, after saving all my bottles and cans and paper products for the entire week, which was an easy 3-min drive on the way out of town. Just want to encourage other guests to be enviromentally responsible, too. Overall, great vacation. Just some tweaks to make it better for others
