Description of the Kyoto vacation townhouse rental
Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, on a small cobblestone alley in the heart of the ancient city of Kyoto, you will find your home away from home. This beautifully restored Machiya retains its old world charm and provides insight into the old way of life in Japan.

It is centrally located for sightseeing, with many of Kyoto's famous temples and shrines, shopping, dining and entertainment districts closeby. There are lots of restaurants and shops within walking distance. A subway station of Karasuma Line is a 10 minute walk (Shijo Station), a train station of Hankyu Kyoto Line is also a 10 minute walk (Karasuma Station), and the closest bus stop is a 5 minutes walk (Shijo Nishi-no-Toin Stop).

Unlike hotels or Japanese inns, our Machiya is a private, romantic hideaway, where you have the place all to yourselves. This very old, two story wooden townhouse was completely renovated in March, 2007, and fully furnished.

Please enjoy Kyoto's old world charm in the modern comforts of our traditional Machiya townhouse. Please visit our HP (search "maeniiya") for more information.

Authentic Japanese experience!

The "machiiya" is extremely well-maintained with all amenities provided. Pretty close to the main area in Kyoto as well. Ideal for 4-5 people who want to stay in Kyoto for more than 3 days.

Loved our stay at Maeniiya!

June 23, 2010

This property was close to major bus routes and an all day pass got you everywhere. My daughters and I had a relaxing stay, after all day sightseeing we came back to a convenient location and well kept Machiya with so many extras. Hostess is very helpful (found us sports bar while the world cup was going on). This is a wonderful alternative to hotel living while you are away.

Perfect Stay

June 30, 2009

I can't say enough about this beautiful renovated michaya. It is located in a great neighborhood giving you a real life in country living experince. Our host provided everything we needed from train station pickup to maps and a great in-brief on the city and sites of Kyoto. He loaned us a phone and provided two bikes which we loved for night time around the town touring. Best bet, beats any hotel in town and certainly enhanced our vacation. Townhouse is within walking distannce to Gion and shopping plus food eateries are close by too. When we return to Kyoto this rental will be number one on our list.

spent 8 nights, single female traveller, felt very safe, a beautiful renovated michaya in a lovely little alley close to everything. would absolutaly recommend. only thing no english tv. only wanted for news so felt a bit cut off from the world. but in hindsight was able to totally "live" in beautiful Kyoto.

Lovely place to rest -

April 28, 2008

I always enjoy renting apartments in busy, tourist cities as it gives me a chance to be in a neighbourhood I would not otherwise get to see. This Machiya is no exception - the decor and furnishings are simple, but everything is very clean and functions perfectly. I especially appreciated the quick reference cards provided that helped navigate the controls for the bath, laundry and air conditioning units. A great experience - highly recommended.
