A recent review--

We stayed at the house last week to do some winter activities and it was way beyond what we expected. Party of 8, very spacious and clean and everything at your fingertips. Everyone loved the decor, simple yet elegant. We had a great time, Melissa was most helpful with getting everything ready for our weekend. We would definitely stay here again, without a doubt one of the best cabins we've rented and most courteous owners. Thanks for everything, it was a fantastic weekend. Rob

LOCATION Situated 6 miles north of Lake George Village, Lake George House is the only house on a 50-acre parcel of wooded land. Views from the house are of native Adirondack trees and rock ledges. The house is set back 200 feet from the road (Route 9N, Lake Shore Drive), with no houses on either side.

CAPACITY The house contains four bedrooms and four full baths and is arranged and furnished for a party of eight or up to eleven people. Except in the summer, rates are computed according to the size of the group, from two to eleven, and we welcome the small group, too.

WIRELESS INTERNET CONNECTION A wired or wireless Internet connection is available in the house at no extra charge.

PETS Your pet is allowed to accompany you on your vacation provided permission is obtained ahead of time. A pet fee of $85 for a week or $50 for a weekend will be charged. The town of Bolton does have a leash law, so a dog must be leashed whenever it leaves the property. Your dog is given a clean bed, too.

PING-PONG The screened porch sports a regulation size Ping-Pong table for use by our guests.

HIKING TRAIL A private hiking trail around the 50 acres of woodlands out back guides you along a walk of about 1.4 miles (one way) through beautiful forested land with tall cliffs, rock ledges, a stream within an amazing 100-foot-deep gorge, sightings of the lake through the trees, and at the trail's end magnificent views of the lake from the Narrows and Tongue Mountain to all of Long, Canoe, and Speaker Heck islands, French Mountain, Cleverdale, and mountains in Vermont and Massachusetts. You do need hiking boots for this walk

As for our RENTAL RATES, though many of them are given on this listing, please keep in mind that with so large a house and with rates varying greatly from season to season and according to the size of the group, it isn't possible to show them all accurately here, or in a format that is easy to follow. Offering rates for smaller groups gives a chance for more people to enjoy this lovely house and gives us a chance to rent it more often throughout the year. A personal quote from me is the only one I can guarantee. Please feel free to call or e-mail. I do answer promptly.

SWIMMING AND BOATING There are two public beaches four miles to the north in Bolton Landing and another two in the Village of Lake George. There are several marinas on Lakes Shore Drive where guests may rent a boat. All are within a 10-minute drive. THE HOUSE ITSELF HAS NO LAKE FRONTAGE. We supply several beach chairs for your use at the beach.

SKIING Skiers may choose Gore Mountain, 28 miles from the house, or West Mountain, 18 miles distant. If you aren't skiing every day of your stay, the Lake George region offers many other outdoor activities and good shopping opportunities.

THE HOUSE Constructed during the winter of 2001, Lake George House contains two levels of living area and provides an unusual degree of privacy for residents.

An oil furnace provides central heat, and the house is centrally air conditioned. A private well supplies tap water.

Rooms are large, their walls paneled with knotty pine, and the floors made of oak or ceramic tile. Doors are oak as well. Ceilings are high, windows large, and decorations sparse, lending an atmosphere of space and relaxation. Every room looks out over a natural setting of forest and mountains.

The main room is large enough for gatherings of the entire group. It contains a large gas-fired woodstove, the living, dining, and kitchen areas, and a table that seats eight comfortably. A spare table is available to allow seating for eleven. Here, too, are one of the two TV's (with cable), the VCR, CD and DVD players, the radio, and an assortment of books, games, and puzzles for the guests' entertainment. A second TV with VCR is on the lower bedroom where the futon sofa is.

The living room opens out onto a large screened porch furnished with a Ping-Pong table (exchangeable for a table for six) and a wrought iron sofa, table, and comfortable chairs. Plexiglas panels to cover the screening in spring and fall extend the time the porch is comfortable for use.

The kitchen is equipped with a four-burner electric stove with oven, a refrigerator, and a dishwasher, as well as a coffee maker, a toaster oven, an Oster blender, a hand mixer, and a microwave oven. Pots and pans are abundant; silverware and dinnerware will accommodate a group of ten. A full-size pantry, not shown in the picture, provides generous space for kitchen equipment and your groceries.

The two bedrooms upstairs (which is the main level) are the same size with a queen-size bed, a full bath, and a walk-in closet in each.

The third and fourth bedrooms are on the lower level. Each of those contains two single beds, which can be made up as a king. The larger of the two also has a futon sofa and a TV-VCR-radio set. Its bathroom is on the upper level. The smaller twin-or-king room also has a cot, its own bathroom with fiberglass shower, and a coaxial cable if you want to bring your own small TV. Both have walk-in closets.

A highchair, a booster seat, a set of baby gates, and a standard crib (the crib for a $25 fee) are available for small children.

On the lower level are a standard washer and dryer, an iron and ironing board, and a counter for folding.

In the laundry room is also the recycling station, with bins for sorting your bottles, cans, and recyclable paper.

Three baths have a shower and tub combination and counter space around the basin. The fourth bathroom has a large fiberglass shower. ALL BED LINENS ARE FURNISHED as are a bath towel and wash cloth for each guest (plus a number of spares), bath mats, and dish towels. We do not provide beach towels.

THE GROUNDS The grounds are heavily wooded and contain a small stream, an outcropping of rock ledges, and many species of native trees, including white pine, beech, hemlock, oak, maple, birch, and aspen. They provide shade, privacy, and natural beauty to the grounds. A modern gas grill with a spare canister of propane is provided for outdoor cooking. A set of swings including a baby swing is also available outside the screened porch. A fire pit is available for a small camp fire unless dry weather conditions make an outdoor fire hazardous.

If a power outage occurs during your stay, a 6,800-watt GENERATOR will be provided on part-time or full-time basis to supply the house with use of the furnace, water, septic system, refrigeration, and a number of electrical outlets.

PAYMENT POLICIES A deposit of one half the rental rate is required when a reservation is made, with the balance and the security deposit due 60 days before arrival. A refundable security deposit of $100 to $300 is required, the rate depending on the length of rental and the number of people in the party. This sum will be refunded in full provided no damage has been done, instructions for preparing the house for check-out are followed, trash and recyclables are managed properly, and the house is vacated by checkout time.

Check-in time is 3:00 P.M. of the first day rented. Check-out time is 10:00 A.M. of the last day.

Beds: 2 King Beds, 2 Queen Beds, 5 Twin Beds, 1 Sofa Bed, 1 Crib

“Stunning home”

Reviewed 3 Jan 2017

The house was amazing! The wood work all over the house was beautiful and the pictures really don't do it justice. There were plenty of space for our group and the open floor plan was a perfect set up. Outback, there are hiking trails giving you plenty to do during the day time. Melissa was terrific and answered every question we had about the place very quickly. We would absolutely stay here again! Thanks again Melissa!

“Wonderful house and location”

Reviewed 5 Dec 2016

This was a perfect house for our family and our 3 dogs. We loved having such a wonderful property to hike and loved the views. We were amazed at how well equipped the kitchen was and it worked perfectly for our Thanksgiving dinner. Melissa was so helpful in every way and we can't wait to book our next stay there.

Owner's reply: And you were so helpful to leave me such a clean, tidy house, as well as to write this kind review. I look forward to your return.

“Lake George Vacation”

Reviewed 25 Sep 2015

Our family of seven enjoyed a week's vacation at this lovely home. The home is private, spacious, quiet and relaxing. Private bedrooms and baths for all. Well equipped kitchen (the best we've seen!). Melissa is a very accommodating host, excellent with communication and planning. Lake George is a beautiful place to visit and a vacation worth taking! Thanks Melissa for sharing your lovely home.

“Great house with lots of privacy”

Reviewed 10 Sep 2015

A group of 6 adults stayed over the Labor Day weekend. Tons of space and privacy. Perfect location....on the main road but away from the busy areas. Lots of restaurants and stores close by. Melissa checked in on us via phone/text. The price was really good. We were all on our motorcycles so the driveway was a little challenging as it is not paved. But overall, we all loved the house. A couple of us even did the hike trail (a little challenging). Would definitely go back.

“Great Place”

Reviewed 26 Jun 2015

You can tell the owners truly cared if we would be comfortable and all our needs would be met. I would recommend this place to stay at.

“A wonderful winter getaway”

Reviewed 21 Jan 2015

We wanted to go somewhere different for our anniversary and this adorable house did not disappoint. Melissa was incredibly accommodating and thought of everything from the weather report to our dogs' comfort. Although the house could have slept many more, it seemed cozy and spacious all at once. The absolute highlight of the trip, though, was the ample hiking right outside the back door! We had acre after acre all to ourselves and our dogs couldn't have been happier running through and exploring the woods. We would definitely return!

“Nice house, no yard”

Reviewed 18 Sep 2013

The house was beautiful inside, but was not good for young children to play outside. A lot of hills and no lawn to sit on.

Owner's reply: Though sorry to disappoint my guest, I’m puzzled that she expected to find a lawn at the house. Our ads read, "A Private Vacation Rental Home in the Adirondack Mountains on Its Own 50 Wooded Acres." and "Grounds are heavily wooded and contain a small stream, rock ledges, and many species of native trees . . providing shade, privacy, and natural beauty." Pictures show trees all around and over the house. Trees and mountains are the Adirondacks' specialty, trees keeping the lake clean, too.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

We vacationed with our three grown children and their spouses and two family dogs. The house was immaculate when we arrived and everything was exactly as promised. I highly recommend this house for families - we had wonderful family dinners in the kitchen/dining room and saved a ton of money!!! Melissa is wonderful, I can't say enough good things about our hostess!! The price was phenomenal and we will be coming back to Lake George soon!!! Awesome house! More than worth the money!

just absolutely loved this place. Melissa was very informative and friendly. She helped with all the planning and suggested things to see and do. The property was like my home away from home. Its all renovated and is well maintained. Truly a beautiful and cozy place. I can't say enough about how we enjoyed it. There were 11 people in our party and the property was spacious enough for all to be comfortable. The house item were fully stocked with all the cutlery and kitchen accessories. The four full bathrooms were quite sufficient for our mini vacation. I hope to be back again for another vacation, hopefully a full week next time. The surroundings were picturesque as the snow lightly glistened the treetops.
