“Peace and Quiet”

Reviewed 30 Oct 2016

Had a lovely four day stay in the Lakeside Cottage. Our cottage was spacious and comfortable with clear instructions on how everything worked. The property was well kept. It was very off season and not many establishments were open during the week. Really liked the pet friendly atmosphere here. The beach access was a little tough, beware there are lots of steps. Would definitely come back for another visit.

Owner's reply: I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay despite many places being closed during your midweek stay. I believe more places are open on weekends since that is when most people come out to see the fall colors.

“Lakeside Cottages”

We had reunion of our 3 children's families which included 9 grandkids ages 1 to 22, who all live in different states in the mid-west within driving distance. Having two separate houses, though attached worked perfectly as the younger ones, 1,3,5 and 7 stayed in one unit with grandma and grandpa as to bed early and also up early. Allowed the older ones to keep their own schedule and sleep in The beach is wonderful sandy area with a sandbar 50 yards out that everyone went out to for play. New Buffalo and Sawyer are both near by with dinning, shopping and food markets available. It was also nice to be able to have the family dog with us, which was a plus for the dog owners as consider him part of the family. The pool, though not big was used mostly by the kids and had a basketball hoop on the side.

Owner's reply: We hear stories like this again and again. People love our cottages for family reunions and vacation destinations. I am always amazed to hear how far people travel to get here but I understand that our location is central for many families that are spread out over the midwest.

“Perfect venue for a family reunion”

Reviewed 9 Aug 2016

We had 3 generations of cousins (coming from Illinois, Arizona, California and Germany), between 14 - 18 people at any one time depending on the day of the week, and these houses were perfect. As many others have noted, they are they are quite close to the beach, and in fact just one house away from being across the street from the entrance. We've had other rentals along the Michigan shore that boasted "beach access" but none nearly as good as this. Although the beach seemed small (about 80 ft as I recall), once in the water it didn't matter, and except for Saturday afternoon, it was never overly crowded. Weekdays were fine. In addition to the beach, the pool was incredible, an asset that most properties don't offer. It was well serviced - in fact I think we saw the "pool guy" twice during the week we were there. The house also has an incredible inventory of beach and pool stuff - inflatables, umbrellas, chairs, balls, etc. (in varying degrees of condition, some probably left from previous renters, but plenty in good condition) and there was even a supply of leftover sunblock and mosquito repellant. We thought we might have to bring some of these things, but in retrospect, it was unnecessary. The location was quite near to New Buffalo (restaurants, groceries, gas, etc), a dozen wineries, and the Casino. Although it was also near (6 miles) to Warren Dunes State Park, between our pool and semi-private beach, we never ended up going there. House A has central air, although the week we were there we had 90 degree temperatures, and the AC was weak upstairs; House B has a large window unit which was amazing in how well it cooled the downstairs, although we had to leave the bedroom doors open at night to get the cooling. The upstairs had a window unit which was adequate, although while we were there it quit working. One measure of a good rental is how responsive the owner is to major problems such as this, and Frank (owner) gets 5 stars for his response. He got our e-mail & we did a bit of troubleshooting via e-mail Wednesday, and Thursday he was out there, working on the broken unit, doing maintenance on the other units, and going through the punch-list of other minor things that we'd found. The new kitchen in B with the adjacent open living-dining room was the default cooking-dining space, and using both rooms, we were able to seat everyone. The kitchen comes equipped with everything you could want, although the Weber grills need rehab.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the great review Sheldon. This is another example of how far people travel to get to our destination. I understand when people spend their hard earned money on a vacation home, they do not want problems so I did my best to resolve them as soon as possible. Sheldon was also helpful with the A/C cleaning which had to be removed and taken outside to clean. I admit, just cleaning the filters is not enough, but they run like new now and should be good to go for years to come.

“2016 Family Getaway”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2016

We filled both cottages and had a ball. The cottages were our headquarters for a family retreat to enjoy being with the grand kids and kids for a week. The cottages made us feel at home as soon as we entered. Nice clean, cozy, well decorated and laid out to handle our group. We had 10 people in each cabin and never ran out of hot water. That wasn't expected with that many using the showers daily. Great ! The walk to the beach was short and the beach was very clean, hot and refreshing. The pool was utilized almost daily and a great spot to cool off in mid July. Local restaurants were very good and not far away. A trip to the Chicago museums was a welcome addition to our visit and only took about an hour plus to get to them. This was a nice quiet family getaway and we enjoyed it very much. These are really nice cottages to rent and we will be back again.

Owner's reply: I am so happy we were able to accommodate your large family gathering and that you were able to take advantage of all the amenities we have to offer. The tankless water heater in cottage B keeps up with all shower demands. I hope you can make it back again in the future.

“Great Family Place”

Reviewed 22 Aug 2015

Our immediate family ( grandparents, children & grandchildren) enjoyed staying in both places for a week. They are well equipped for cooking & eating together. The pool was heavily used as the lake, which is only a short walk, was rather cool.

Owner's reply: When you have a heated pool and the lake both at your disposal, it's nice to have both options. Thank's for staying at our cottages this summer. I hope you can return again in the future.

“Girls Weekend Getaway”

Reviewed 12 Dec 2012

This was the perfect cottage for a girls weekend getaway to Michigan! We had 10 people (all coming from different locations) and the house was a great size to accommodate all of us. It is in a very convenient location to take a walk to the beach and easily get to the various wineries/restaurants of the area. We also spent a lot of time relaxing at the house which was just what we were looking for in the weekend. I would definitely recommend staying at the Beach House :)

Owner's reply: Thanks for the kind words Kristin. We are always delighted to hear about how much our guests enjoyed their stay. You were fortunate to have such warm weather for a November weekend and you have reminded me about one of the reasons so many people like to come up this time of year....the wineries. We look forward to your return again in the future. Frank Owner

“Long-weekend getaway w/ friends”

Reviewed 23 Oct 2011

My group rented one of the units (unit B) in late September and it had everything we could possibly need. Close to the very nice beach, hot tub for cool evenings, lots of little quaint mom & pop restaurants with great food. The communication and transaction experience w/ the owner was also very smooth. Highly recommended for group/families of any age!

“Lakehouse”

Reviewed 26 Jul 2011

We had a wonderful time. The house provides all the necessory things from home: dishwasher, 2 bathrooms, and air conditioning. However, there were mousing remains in the silverware drawer and in the bottom of the stove. For this time of year, tht is unusual. Either the housekeepers are not doing a good job cleaning or There is still mice in the cottage from winter.

“Great Group Place”

Reviewed 12 Oct 2010

Our group of 18 recently rented this space. It was absolutely wonderful. Cottages were clean, very close to beach and town. It is always hard to find a place to accomodate 18 people. We would definately book this again.
