The garden terrace has a seating area and dining table that can accommodate no more than six adults. The price shown is for two guests. If you are more than two guests, please contact us for discount pricing. Only children under two years are free. Gardenia is pet friendly. There is a cleaning fee for your pet of $30 dollars. For pets we also ask for a security deposit.

Guests on Monte Placido have access to the beautiful infinity pool. The pool is shared but yet very private as most guests are at the beach during the day. The pool deck has a barbeque and two separate dining and lounging areas. Inside the pool you will find a shallow area for children and a deep place for swimming. Guests love to hang on the side where the water cascades, look out over the ocean and enjoy a cool drink after a day of beach exploring. Guests on Monte Placido also have free access to Shiva’s Cave Yoga Studio which is on site. It is a marvelous place for your personal workout or we can arrange for a private yoga lesson. Under the pool cabana is our massage room. You can book a one hour massage for US $35 dollars. Guests will also enjoy free membership at the Las Terrenas Sailing Cub.

Home away from home, Spectacular view...We will come back!

The Monte Placido residence was an adventure to get to at the top of the mountain, but well worth it. Definitely bring/rent a car so that you can get to the residence without having to rely on spotty public transportation, as well as for touring the surrounding area during your stay. We had easy access to many beaches, so we tried a new one every day. Don and Diana were extremely helpful with showing us how to find various beaches, a gorgeous waterfall, restaurants and bars to visit in town, and just generally very warm friendly faces to have while traveling in a new place. Another perk of staying with them was being able to use the sea kayaks at great club discounts. We took advantage of the massage services, which only cost $25 an hour! We saved some money by cooking at our residence some nights- the grocery store is in town and has pretty much anything you could need. This beats an all-inclusive place any day! Everything about this vacation was perfect...and I know we'll be back.

Amazing stay

We were totally overwhelmed by the beauty of this place. The view on the landscape is amazing, the lush vegetation. We have a panoramic view above all this and are located a the same height as the flight of vulturs. The houses are lovely decorated in and out and we can find everything we need. And again, from the 3 decks of the bedrooms and kitchen, we have an astonishing view. Finally, the owners were really helpfull each time we had questions about the area. All that to say that we will return to Monte Placido as soon as possible.

Wow - nice location and very nice villas. Great view and amazing surroundings. We stayed at Lilka and it is such a nice place and view from the large terrace. Great service and facilities at the place. If you let Don know what you need or want he will fix it. We had fresh fish brought to our Villa and Don provided a local guide for our hiking in the forest. Silent location both day and night and a nice place to reload your batteries. We used the Quad from Monte Placido to get around to town/beaches and It worked out perfect for us. The only bad thing was that we only had 4 nights :-)

Outstanding vacation at Monte Placido in Samana!

After the never-ending winter of 2014 - my partner and I needed to get away to restore ourselves back to sanity and didn't know where to go. We had never been to the Dominican Republic, as whenever we'd hear about it were about the all-inclusive resorts of Punta Cana or Puerto Plata. When we travel, we prefer to take in a bit more of the culture and not follow the masses and do our own thing. AND I'm happy to say, we found it at Monte Placido, located on an idealic hilltop on the Samana Peninsula in the Dominican Republic. Where to begin. If you can fly into El Catey, do it! It's only about 40 minutes- mostly beautiful scenic drive along the coast of the azure-colored Atlantic Ocean on a brand new highway (with barely any cars on the road!). Once you get to Monte Placido, (yes, as we had read - it's a steep hill, but after going up once and tackling a couple of sharp turns - you'll get the hang of it) put it in the low-gear, take it steady and you'll be compensated by a breathtaking view. Photos do not do justice to this hilltop haven. To start, you are welcomed by about 5 Spanish-style ochre-colored houses surrounded by a smartly landscaped garden with a kaleidoscope of tropical flowers with strategic lush trees to give each unit their own sense of privacy - juxtaposed by an infinity pool at the centre of the property with ample seating for larger groups, if need be. While you're obviously not on the beach - you are surrounded in the foreground by a 180 degree view of the Atlantic coastline with a constant warm ocean breeze. Each of the six units are charmingly decorated in their own style - kept immaculately clean with all that you would require (Flat screen Satellite TV with a few English channels) WiFi if you need to be connected, fully equipped kitchens with all necessary dishware, pot&pans, etc... Some of the units are surrounded by a fence, making them dog-friendly should you decide to bring Fido along! Owners Don and Diana, who live on-site in the center villa, are very conscientious of guest privacy. We barely saw them unless we rang their bell. The groundskeeper Jean-Claude, along with the rest of the crew are extremely polite and are mindful of any noise. Cleaning service is only every other day - but if you require any extra items, they will make it available for you. If you wish to use the grill, there's a large bbq grill just off the pool area along with seating for up to 10-12 guests under the canopy. The Location is great as you can discover so much of the region as Monte Placido is located at the centre of the Samana Peninsula making most attraction nearby (we were at secluded world-class beaches in 15 minutes) and most others within 1 hour away at the most. Truth be told, over 12 days, we only went to 5 of the 12 recommended beaches as we opted for the pool, hilltop vistas and ocean breeze! The town of Las Terranas is nothing special, but there are countless of great dinning options. IN short - if you have a penchant for the standard all-inclusive experience then this is not the place for you. BUT, if you're in for something unique and a little different and special with lots of local charm and a priceless setting that you will never forget, then, be sure to put Monte Placido on your Caribbean 'bucket list'. You will not regret it. We can't wait to go back!

My wife and I had a fantastic stay with our hosts Don and Diana. Their beautiful, peaceful apartments are ideal for a couple, family, friends, or a retreat. Their staff are friendly, helpful, and thoughtful, keeping the apartments spotless and comfortable. We enjoyed the easy access to the beach, Las Terranas, and the countryside. Diana has prepared a very helpful guide to local and nearby restaurants, sights, attractions, and amenities?and Don can give you the inside scoop on local sailing and his personal favorite places to eat. We recommend having a massage, which Diana will organize, and a 3 hour hike into the backcountry behind Monte Placido.

We had an amazing 2 weeks at Monte Placido. With not many people around, we mostly had the pool for us. In the evenings we grilled several times enjoying the sunset. As we arrived from Germany, we got there by car from Punta Cana (don't try to get your rental car at the airport - their gonna fool you), which ment a 4 hour drive, but was totally worth it. We had a quad for a day, which turned out to be great fun -> we would recommend to have a quad for your hole stay, as the streets of Las Terrenas are no big fun by car. We just choose Mount Placido and therefore Las Terrenas out of the blue, and we definetally had the right instinct. Don and Diana were always up to help, or organize things for us. We also found a great restaurant "Mi Corazon", whose host was also very lovely and giving us tips for the stay.

"Hello . Tank you for sharing your experience for other future guests. No doubt that have any kind independant mode of transportation makes your stay IN Samana more enjoyable. Many have in mind that being "on the beach" is the primary element in their decision making. If one rents in town the beach their is busy as all the other beaches in Samana are undeveloped and pristine and getting by car, ATV or motorbike is a must. One last note on this subject MONTE PLACIDO is strategically located just East of Las Terrenas so an easy reach to all bewache(s).."

We stayed here for 4 days and 3 nights on a recent trip to the DR. I based my decision on the photos of Monte Placido and other reviews and was not disappointed. The views are simply spectacular, there is a continual breeze to keep you cool, hardly any mosquitos and a fantastic pool to cool off in. Don, Diana and their staff are great hosts and you feel right at home with plenty of privacy in your vila. It is a steep drive up to Monte Placido but I managed to do it no problem even in a compact Chevy in the middle of the night. It's a short drive to the beach in Las Terrenas, Playa Bonita, Playa Coson and El Salto de Limon. The beaches are great but staying up on Monte Placido gives you the best of both worlds in my opinion.

Your response:
"Yes the panorama from our mountain top is quite something. The misconception of many is wanting to be on or near the beach. In Samana we don't just have 1 beacj many pristine beaches along the cost line and an an easy reach from Monte Placido Vacation Rentals. Monte Placido Vacation Rentals is comprised of 5 rental homes ranging from a studio just for 1 or 2 guests up to 5 guests per home. Looking forward to welcoming you."

My husband and I stayed here for 8 nights. It was our honeymoon. We really enjoyed ourselves. Don and Diana were really great hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed. The views from Monte Placido are breath taking. Yes the driveway is intimidating when you first arrive, but we had a small compact car, that didn't have any issues going up and down. If you have the opportunity to get a massage, you should. The grounds keeper and his wife were really helpful, and boy can she cook. We had her prepare two meals and wish we would have had her do more of them. The town of Las Terrenas is so great, we are coming back. We are looking to have a early retirement in this quaint little town.

My boyfriend and I (both age 21) spent 4 nights in the appartement "Rosa" and enjoyed our vacation there very much! The hosts Don and Diana were very welcoming and made us feel comfortable right away. They gave very good advice on how to get around and were always on site to help us. They have a big dog named Bingo, he's cute and calm. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well. We loved the appartement and all the lovely details in this whole place. A welcoming pastry in the fridge was a nice surprise. The location does really look like in the picutures. We enjoyed the infinity pool a lot, especially at night when you can see the stars, since there's not much light pollution. It's easy to get around from Monte Placido, you can catch a motoconcho or guagua right down the hill. It's only 20 min to the city of Las Terrenas and 2-3 hours to the airport of Santo Domingo. We rented Dons' motorcycle for 2 days to get to Playa Rincon, Playa Moron, Samana and the waterfall El Limon. Make sure you see Playa Moron, we liked it the most. All together we enjoyed this beautiful place very much and recomend it. We're looking forward to coming back! Vicky and Robin

For those not wanting to drive at night they offer airport pick up service for a fee about 1/2 the cost of taxi fare.. See our MONTE PLACIDO VACATION RENTALS also about taxis see below...
