About the area

We are located near Trail 7A, perfect for snowmobiling and 4X4 ATV's. Lots of streams, wildlife, and hiking trails. Lead is 7 miles, Deadwood is 8 miles, Sturgis is 18 miles. Snowy Bluff Cabin is 5 miles from Spearfish Canyon, 20 miles from Spearfish and Ski Slopes are within 6 miles.

Getting around

4 wheel drive is required during winter months (Oct - May). However, a front wheel drive car or van is fine during summer months. During winter months, if bringing a trailer of snowmobiles, we do recommend bringing chains. The private road is maintained all year round, however, we do recommend being prepared to come down the ridge during the winter months and the wide variety of driving conditions that may include.

Getting here

From Deadwood/Lead, follow hwy 85 south and go approximately 3.5 miles. Take left onto North Rochford Road. Go 1/2 mile and turn left onto Brownsville Road. Continue for .8 miles and turn left onto Englewood Road (at the Mickelson Trail shelter). On Englewood Road, travel 1.1 miles and stay right at the fork in the road to Snowcat Road. Turn right as you will see, Snowcat Road heads uphill. This road has 7 switchbacks. Go about 8/10 of a mile, after you made 5 of the 7 switch turns and turn left onto Snowy Bluffs Road and continue uphill. Up top the ridge, you will make a final right turn and see Snowy Bluff Cabin on the right side at the end of the road.

“Snowy Bluff Cabin Rental”

Reviewed 1 May 2015

I want to start by saying that the new owners have completed many updates to this cabin this year, if you think the pictures on the vacation rental site are beautiful.. please check out their Facebook page! We had seven adults and four kids in this cabin and everybody had their own space! The loft alone has five double beds! The enclosed area of the loft contains three queen size beds and was the perfect place for the kids to play and sleep, the additional bedroom gave adults some privacy while still being able to be near the kids. There is also one additional bed in the open area of the loft, so much room! We ate most of our meals at the cabin, which allowed us to really critique the kitchen! It was fully stocked with everything we needed to prepare and serve meals. The table and kitchen bar area gave way to more than enough space for everyone to gather together. All appliances were modern and functioning, there was a pantry area big enough for us to store grocery items. Other items on site were baking utensils, cocktail and wine glasses, crockpot and coffee pot (and much more). There are two bathrooms, one of the main floor and one downstairs, both were very functional with full bath and shower with plenty of towels. The bedroom on the main level is spacious with a king sized bed. You find the laundry room downstairs, the washer and dryer work great (trust me with four kids we tried it out)! In the lower level you will find yet another bedroom as well as pool table, fuse ball table and television with Dish Network service. The hot tub is very clean, well maintained and a perfect place to look out over the pine trees, really beautiful! Just above the hot tub, on the main level you will find the deck, overlooking the top of the many conifer trees surrounding this property. This offers visitors an amazing view of the Black Hills area, despite it being February we did spend a little time outside enjoying the scenery! I look forward to going back in the summer and spending a few hours out on the deck. The morning we checked out we woke up to a winter wonderland, I can only begin to describe how beautiful the big flakes of snow looked from our amazing view! The road coming out that morning was snow covered, we drove slow and steady on our way down and had no problems driving an Acadia with all-wheel drive. Booking this place is very easy and hassle free, Jeanine is awesome at to deal with and very accommodating! Can't wait to visit again!

“2013 SD Family Vacation”

Reviewed 17 Jun 2013

There were 7 of us coming from Indiana to SD. Only 3 of us had ever been there before. We had not wanted to stay in a hotel so we checked out a rental property that was listed as being totally secluded and high in the Black Hills, but centrally located to all of the sites of interest. This property actually slept 12 so we had plenty of room and individual privacy when needed. Three levels allowed the young people to take over the basement level, which also had the pool table, fuseball table and hot tub. The upper deck provided plenty of seating space to appreciate the beautiful view and sounds of the wind speaking through the ponderosa pines; which is a magnificent sound. Just down the lane was a deer feeding stand so we were constantly in the company of the local wildlife. One morning my husband even caught sight of a doe grazing on some grass just outside our bedroom window. Another morning our daughter in law (a very early riser) was out on the deck and heard an elk across the valley. Also, on one trip back up the mountain our granddaughter spotted an elk grazing on a hillside. The cabin had everything we could need for a wonderful week long vacation; washer and dryer, plenty of couches, all the kitchen necessities, fantastic cathedral ceilings in the great room with full windows to the ceiling overlooking the majestic Black Hills, with open concept dining and kitchen area. Flat screen TV's abounded with Direct TV and all the movie channels you could want. The owners of this property certainly were honed in on making their guests happy and satisfied. The decorating theme gave us a glimpse of the Black Hills area of long ago, which we all appreciated. We would highly recommend this property as a vacation destination, and the owners were very gracious and informative every time we conversed. The entire process to rent the property was very easy. After our arrival the owners even checked on us with a call to make sure everything was ok and to our satisfaction. Hopefully we can return to Snowy Bluffs in the future, it is definitely top on our list.
