“Moms getaway”

Reviewed 11 Dec 2016

I had such a wonderful weekend at the schoolhouse with nine other moms. The space is well appointed with comfortable furniture, inspiring artwork, a well-stocked kitchen, and a fireplace. I was surprised by the amount of space downstairs--a beautiful open floor plan with gorgeous mountain views. There was enough space so that it never felt crowded despite there being ten of us. Bathrooms and bedrooms were very clean and pleasant. I hope to return here, maybe next time with kids.

“Ideal location for retreat!”

Reviewed 11 Dec 2016

A large group of friends and I stayed at this light-filled home last month for a yoga retreat. It was the perfect location. An easy drive from Boston, yet a world away. We had convenient access to a great hike, gourmet dinner, and a cute town center. That said, we spent much of our time at the house which accommodated 10-12 person yoga sessions, fireside chats and leisurely breakfasts in the open concept first floor. I can't wait to go again!!

“Wonderful, very clean, open and spacious.”

Our stay at Mary Lincoln's South Lee school house was wonderful. It was ideal for our family members to get together for a reunion. It was very clean, open and spacious, well designed and decorated. Everything was there that we needed. The bedrooms were comfortable, the dining table was large and accommodated our whole family. The new modern professional kitchen was a joy to cook in. We will definitely be returning for another stay if our circumstances allow. I cannot imagine anyone being the slightest bit disappointed staying at this wonderful home. The owner, Mary Lincoln, was very pleasant to deal with before, during, and after our stay.

“Every detail has been attended to!”

4 very good friends had a special 5-day stay here. It is a gorgeous house on a beautifully landscaped property. Besides the gorgeous interior of the house, there is wonderful stone work outside that I loved as well as gardens with interesting and seasonal plantings. Beds are comfy, kitchen had everything we needed for cooking, views are great from every window, and the front and back porches are perfect. Thank you so much!!

“A Real Gem!!”

The Historic Lee Schoolhouse is a beautifully restored historic property decorated with simple elegance and exquisite good taste! Every room is light and sunny with hardwood floors and beautiful handmade quilts that decorate the walls; the first floor is open and spacious with a fabulously equipped kitchen that would please any gourmet cook. The building is set far back from the road and the grounds are beautifully landscaped, with a sunny garden and grassy yard and comfortable chairs everywhere. I stayed here with three friends and all of us are looking for ways to come back with our families. The location is terrific for mountain views, convenience to town, and easy access to the many wonderful things to do in the Berkshires. I've stayed in bed and breakfasts and rental homes all over this country and Europe and this one is at the top of the list.

“A charming and well-maintained rental”

Reviewed 12 Sep 2016

My husband and I recently stayed here for a long weekend with two other families. This historic renovated schoolhouse caught our eye as being spacious, recently renovated, and accommodating for all three families, including young children. The four bedrooms and three full baths allowed each family sufficient privacy, while the open floor plan downstairs allowed everyone to eat dinner, hang out, and relax together. We made good use of the well-equipped kitchen as well as the grill outside. At first we were concerned about the location, since it appears a bit off the beaten path when you look at a map online, but it turns out that the location is actually centrally located to a variety of points of interest in Western Mass, including Northampton, Bash Bish Falls, Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, and Mass MOCA. It’s also just minutes from a Big Y supermarket, a liquor store, Stockbridge, Great Barrington, and Tanglewood. We ended up being very pleased with the location! Trying to think critically, we wished that there were more, heavier curtains on the windows, particularly so the children wouldn’t wake up at the crack of dawn. Also, though two of the four bedrooms had large beds, we wished that a third bedroom also would have had a full bed instead of two twins. We realized these things from the pictures before booking, though, and would still stay here again regardless. Overall, we’re happy to have chosen this charming and well-maintained spot for our vacation.

Owner's reply: Thanks for the feedback...glad you enjoyed your stay. Shades are coming! (Also the twin beds in one of the rooms can be pushed together to make a king...king-sized sheet and blanket are in the closet).

“Perfect for Family Vacation”

Reviewed 11 Sep 2016

Our family of eight including two children spent a week at the schoolhouse to celebrate a special wedding anniversary. We looked for a location that was convenient to highways and all the attractions of the Berkshire area and a space that would be comfortable for all the family members. The Schoolhouse scored 100% on everything. Minutes from the Mass Pike and a super-supermarket, as well as the Lee shopping outlets, a few more minutes to the museums, music venues, gardens, shopping, restaurants and no more than an hour from Mass MOCA and Williamstown. The house's 3 baths and four bedrooms-including a luxurious , spacious master suite -was comfortable for all. The two porches, one overlooking the backyard, provided relaxing places to talk, read and watch the kids who enjoyed running around in the yard. We took advantage of the barbecue space and the town lake which Mary, our hostess, provided passes for (with a few complication not her fault). The house is outfitted with just about everything you could want and even cooking meals in the gourmet kitchen was pleasurable. The kids were thrilled to find a large TV and a huge box of Legos. There is wireless in the house, too, and a ping pong table in the basement with the washer and dryer. Mary lives in the attached unit. But you'd almost not know she's there. But if you need anything or have questions, she's got the answers. I can't say enough good things about Mary and the Schoolhouse. We all loved it. Best vacation in years.

“Exceeded our expectations!”

This large property is a beautiful space inside and out as well. High end features with great lighting and many outlets for charging all our devises. Mary's fully equipped kitchen was a joy to cook in. Her personal touch of hand made quilts and wonderful art on the walls is delightful! She even had toys that our grandsons could play with. We would love to return to stay here and explore more of what the beautiful Berkshires has to offer.

Owner's reply: You were terrific guests; I'd love to have you come again!

This is a very special place to stay in the Berkshires! Not only is its location perfect for getting to Tanglewood, Jacobs Pillow, Stockbridge, and most other Berkshires highlights, but the Schoolhouse itself is a treasure -- artistically decorated with quilts and quilted wall hangings handmade by the owner; beautifully furnished with very comfortable beds and stylish bathrooms; plenty of closets and space; an attractive living room with fireplace, comfy sofa, big-screen TV, bookshelves, wifi; and a gourmet kitchen with the latest appliances. Everything you could ask for in a vacation rental, or get-away weekend! The four bedrooms are spacious, and the entire unit is full of light and lovely views over the hills. Our group of six friends stayed here recently and enjoyed every moment of our stay at the Historic Schoolhouse, rating it a 5-star accommodation!

Wonderful Vacation Get-a-way!

My girlfriends and I make it a priority to get together each year and rent a vacation home. It was a unanimous consensus that Mary's home was our favorite stay place to date! It was artfully decorated and cheerful with an abundance of natural light streaming through the large windows. Coming from the South Jersey flat farmlands, I could really appreciate the hilltop location of the South Lee Schoolhouse overlooking the beautiful Berkshire Mountains. I particularly enjoyed having my morning coffee on the back porch admiring the amazing retaining wall in the back yard. Seeing it gave the rare glimpse of what was beneath the mountains. The wall was made of marble, limestone, slate and layered rocks mined right on the property and incorporated into natural landscaping. I will be back (this time with my family) so that they can enjoy this property as much as I did!

The perfect venue for a week (or more!) in the Berkshires.
Left on Aug 23, 2015 for a stay in Aug 2015
A marvelous accommodation in a newly renovated 1892 South Lee Schoolhouse... easily housed 4 couples. We all came with plans for concerts, plays, dance performances and museum visits in this culturally rich area --and the South Lee location was perfect! The main floor great room is an open design kitchen/dining area/living room with high ceilings. Beautifully decorated with comfortable furniture, it provides lots of space for cooking and meal prep (a cook's dream!), dining, and relaxing on comfy furniture. And if desired there is plenty of room to find a quiet place to read or check your email. The bedrooms are very comfortable and decorated with Mary's beautiful quilts and exquisite watercolors painted by her mother. The front porch offers a place to relax: a beautiful view, a glass of wine, a little snooze in a rocking chair--it doesn't get any better than this. Mary is friendly, available and anxious to make your stay comfortable and stress-free. From our first contact she answered my questions and concerns promptly. She provides excellent resource materials about what to see and how to get around the area. I cannot say enough good things about the Historic Lee School and Mary L.

This 4 bedroom/3 bath attached guest / duplex was just INCREDIBLE -- We loved it! Four couples ended our Fall Foliage tour through New England here, in the Berkshires. It was the best accommodation we had throughout our week and half trip. Its newly renovated, with outstanding appointments in every room. Kitchen and all appliances are high end. Not just wifi, but bluetooth speakers for attaching our iPhone music in the dinning/living room! Nice HD TV and fireplace in living room. Washer /Dryer for taking clean clothes home! Two bedrooms have ensuite bath, master bedroom upstairs, and one bedroom downstairs. TRY IT, you'll -- not just like it, you'll LOVE IT!!

Bliss in the Berkshires
Left on Oct 25, 2015 for a stay in Oct 2015
Five high school girlfriends (from the 1970's) rented this beautifully restored schoolhouse for 6 nights during the fall leaf season. The great room layout was perfect for breakfast before we went to explore the numerous attractions nearby. The central location allowed us to explore many of the quaint towns in the Berkshires (Stockbridge, Lenox, Sheffield, Pittsfield, Northampton, Ashley Falls, etc.) and to take a day trip to the Hudson Valley of NY. There were plenty of attractions nearby - such as the Norman Rockwell Museum, The Mount (Edith Wharton's Home), the Hancock Shaker Museum, Butler Sculpture Park and several restored homes and gardens. We also went hiking. The fact that the home was renovated in 2014 certainly shows - with modern bathrooms, draft-free windows, hard wood floors and dimmer switches on most of the lights. The schoolhouse is decorated with quality furniture, great artwork, and up to date appliances. The bedrooms and the walls have beautiful quilts - in vibrant colors - that were handmade by the owner. The photos do not capture the beauty and quality of the restoration. We had every amenity we needed to make us feel comfortable (including lots of towels). The place is also cleaned to within an inch of perfection! Although we preferred to eat out for lunch and dinner at the many great restaurants nearby, the kitchen is stocked with everything needed to prepare gourmet meals. We did, however, manage to make 2 apple pies using the local apples! The five of us highly recommend the schoolhouse. Mary was very gracious and was available - only if asked - to answer questions and provide suggestions for places to visit and to eat.
