Looking to get away from it all while in Minnesota? You will feel like you are on the ocean while relaxing at Aspenwood in Lutsen MN. Immediately upon entering, you will notice that every room has an unobstructed view of Lake Superior, making you feel as if you are part of the lake.

Late afternoon and evenings are magical at the lake. Build a fire on the rocks and count stars while the moon dances across the water and later fall asleep at night to the sound of waves lapping on the shoreline. Early risers can watch the sun rise right out of the water while drinking coffee on one of the lakeside decks or sleep in until the warm sun greets your face.

The interior of Aspenwood leaves nothing to the imagination as to where you are; on the north shore of Lake Superior. 2,500+ square feet of living space are adorned with hand-made log furniture and other creature comforts only a newer home can bring. Gourmet kitchen with granite counter tops, two gas fireplaces, upper and lower TV areas with satellite TV/DVD/VCR (and movie library) as well as a game area allow large groups to each have their own space or couples have plenty of room to roam.

All 4 bedrooms have a dedicated bath and the owner's suite has a two person 'Jacuzzi' whirlpool that overlooks the lake for romantic evenings or soothing sore muscles after an invigorating day of skiing, biking or hiking.

**We have direct access to the Gitchi Gami Bike Trail. You can bike to the Temperence River state park and hike the waterfalls without getting in your car!**
The north shore offers something for each season. Skiers are welcomed home with in-floor heat on each level providing your feet and body with the most luxurious heating system available. Groomed cross country ski trails are less than one mile away and Lutsen Mountains are 6 miles away for easy access. Our insulated, attached garage is a convenient place to store all your ski equipment and car.

Stay cool during hot summer days with Lake Superior's natural air conditioning or travel a few miles inland and enjoy area lakes for fishing or boating. Superior National Golf Course is only 3 miles away and offers 27 of the most visually stunning (and quite challenging!)holes in the Midwest.

Enjoy 5 restaurants within 10 minutes of our north shore rental home such as Lutsen Resort and Blue Fin in Tofte MN.

Grand Marais MN is a 20 minute drive down the shore and has many unique shops to satisfy even the biggest shoppers. Take a pick of some fabulous cuisine while in town and enjoy the views of the harbor.

Don't forget about spring blossoms, hikes along streams bloated by spring rains and unmatched fall colors in the Boreal forest. April and November are great quiet times to curl up and read a book by the fire and listen to the waves on the shore when you just need some time to yourself.

Take advantage of everything the area has to offer or stay in and do nothing at all. Either way, Aspenwood has what you are looking for!
Area Information
Cross country ski, Snowmobile and hiking trails (including the Superior Hiking trail) are accessible across Hwy 61 off the Onion River Road. The Alpine slide and Gondola Rides are very close and open in the spring, summer and fall.

The Gitchie Gami bike trail is accessible right from our driveway and connects to the Temperance River State Park, Tofte, Superior National Golf Course, Lutsen Resort and Ski Hill Road in Lutsen.

Grand Marais is 20 minutes down Hwy 61 for shopping, recreation and lots of dining options!

Heaven on Earth!
This was our third trip to this property (first with our dog!), and it will not be the last! Such a beautiful home with stunning views. Close to everything and so welcoming. Planning our next trip in 2016 already!

Great Place to Stay
Our family hiked on the Superior Hiking trail for 4 days and then rented this condo for the rest of the week. It worked out great. Very nice place to stay with plenty of room for a family of 5 and a dog. It was relaxing sitting on the deck looking out over Lake Superior. The condo was close to some great sites to see and restaurants. We will definitely rent this condo again the next time we are on the North Shore.

Beautiful North Shore Retreat
This condo was a beautiful, relaxing retreat from our busy lives. It had all of the amenities anyone could ever ask for! The owners are great at anticipating the needs of people who just want to relax and enjoy their time away. The weather was even nice enough to sit outside on the deck and soak up some sun with a good book. Star-gazing was breathtaking at night and the sunrises from the master bedroom were phenomenal. We would stay here again in a heartbeat!

The Perfect Stay
Another fabulous stay at this amazing home. It has EVERYTHING you would want and then some...don't hesitate to book. This home is perfect.

I almost hesitate to write this review because Rick provides such a quality home at a great value that a part of me wants to keep it a secret, but in fairness to Rick he deserves every great review he gets. Everything is as he states in the property description; The home and furnishings are in excellent condition and repair; the location is beautiful; the pricing is very fair. Clearly, Rick is a responsible, conscientious owner/manager. We are recommending his property to our friends and looking forward to a return visit.

Loved our stay....again
This is our 3rd time time renting this unit over the past 5 years. It remains a wonderful place to stay, soak in the views of the lake and use as our base for enjoying the area.

Spacious, clean and comfortable. Booking was easy and everything was as advertised.

The next time we head up to the Lutsen area we will be checking for availability again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What should I bring?
A: Whatever you want to eat and drink- that's it! Seriously, I've got my place stocked with everything you could think of including a propane grill (propane provided), all towels/linens, shampoo, soap, conditioner, movie collection, book collection, board games and the kitchen is fully stocked including some cooking spices. If you'd rather eat out there are 5 restaurants within 8 miles :-)
Q: What are some nearby activities?
A: Depends on the season. Spring you can ski at Lutsen Mountains into May. I love to hit nearby state parks and check out the waterfalls. You also get great wave action from Superior and can take it all in from the greatroom.

Summer bring your bike and jump on the Gitchi Gami bike trail from the driveway and bike to Temperence River State Park. They have a bike rack waiting for you! When you done bike into Schroeder and grab an ice cream cone. Superior National Golf is 3 miles down the road and take in the Alpine slide or Moose Mountain Gondola at Lutsen Mountains. Fishing is available in Tofte or Grand Marais by Charter. You can mountain bike at Lutsen Mountains, Pincushion in Grand Marais and Britton Peak parking lot off the Sawbill trail in Tofte. Of course, hiking is everywhere nearby. Access the Leveaux and Oberg mountain loops along with the Superior Hiking trail from the Onion River Road- just a mile east of Aspenwood. And don't miss Grand Marais. The downtown harbor, shops and restaurants are "must do's!"

Fall is my favorite time to visit Lutsen. Peak colors run from mid September - mid October. Make sure you drive the Sawbill trail and take 61 into Grand Marais. Any trail you hike in the fall is awesome! The lake is typically calm and sky blue. It's a magical time!

Winter you really need to go dog sledding. You can hire a musher to give you a ride right off the Sawbill. Snowshoeing, cross country skiing and of course downhill skiing at Lutsen Mountains are second to none. If you're into snowmobiling this is the place to go too! Incredible trails all over the Superior National Forest. I haven't done it but you can catch a horse drawn nighttime sleigh ride off the Gunflint trail. It's on my bucket list!
