“Remote, relaxing, beautiful”

Reviewed 31 Jul 2016

We stayed at Sunnyledge the third week in July. We were looking for a special out of the way place to call home for a week- traveling with our 2 older teen children. It took us awhile to locate the property as the driveway and house are totally hidden off a dirt, 4wheel drive only road. The photos on their site are "spot-on". Spacious, clean with all amenities including washer/dryer. Well stocked kitchen, beach towels, coolers, WiFi, accessible management....The view of Francis Bay is unbelievable all day-and night long. AC is available in the bedrooms. We were worried about being to hot in the rest of the house (esp on a 'sunnyledge" ) in midJuly having been miserable at a different rental without air 4 years ago. The breeze and high ceiling fans kept the living/dining area quite comfortable all day long!Francis Bay is perfect for swimming, paddle boarding. Excellent snorkeling to the left all the way to Maho. Many turtles & some baby nurse sharks in the sea grass to the right. You are a 10-15m drive to Coral Bay, 20 to Cruz which is challenging on rainy days...something to keep in mind if you want to shop a lot or drink a few with dinner out. Perfect for those like us that like to "get away".

“Caribbean Breeze for the Entire Stay”

Reviewed 5 Feb 2016

My husband and sister stayed for a week!!! The view is breathtaking and the breeze is addicting. There are 3 beautiful master bedrooms and once you do your initial walk through you immediately feel like you are at a private villa! The view of Whistling Cay is both whimsical and mysterious. If your a fan of Pirates of the Caribbean it does give you a little does of the enchanting scenes of the ocean. You don't actually see pirate ships but it was amazing all week to see the enormous yachts pulling up in to Francis Bay. Again giving the feel that you are along side luxury. Having the windows open to feel the breeze while cooking, drinking pain killers, and watching the yachts pull in was my personal favorite. My sister would tell you it was paddle boarding in Francis Bay along side sea turtles, colorful tropical fish and conch shells. My husband loved seeing the British Virgin Islands from the breezy shower, felt like an outdoor shower (if you've ever been the Outer Banks of NC you know what I mean.) He loved how green it all is and the the blues and greens you see just from the back patio. Guest have can sun right at the house to avoid sand if you wanted to avoid sand?! But the drive to the beach was less than 5 minutes and it was not at all touristy at the beach. The shower in the master bedroom was unbelievable it feels like an atrium but has complete privacy. There was not one thing that happened during our stay and not one complaint I could think of about the house. It meets every need you can think of including Wifi!!!! On the one rainy day we had we were able to google things on the computer we wanted to do like dinners out or finding the paddle boarding deals. The detail in the design of the house is outstanding and your a family of HGTV lovers you will get your fill all week enjoying the stone work and tile. But the view of the sunrises coming up over the house, and sunsets at dinner time were completely BREATHTAKING I literally cannot tell you enough that the views are something you just can't find anywhere else because of how close this house is to the water. There are no other homes in-between your view of Francis Bay. We were even able to see sea turtles from the house. My husband and sister are already talking about our next trip, and because of the 3 masters we are trying to decide who we want to share our new secret place in the Caribbean with. Sunny ledge is a precious gem of island experience and those views are indescribable. Miss it now!

Our stay at Sunnyledge was wonderful. The views are spectacular! Francis Bay was our favorite beach which was a 5 minute drive from Sunnyledge. Can't say enough wonderful things about it! We will stay there again on our next visit to St. John.

“Fantastic Villa!!!”

Reviewed 13 Mar 2011

Our group of 4 (2 adults, 2 teens) loved our visit to Sunnyledge! The location, amenities, views, breezes and setting of this beautiful villa just can't be beat on St. John. The villa itself is fabulous, even better than the pictures if that is possible. The layout is perfect with 2 of the 3 bedrooms and the living/kitchen/laundry area all on the same level and accessed from within the home. Such easy living! Being able to walk over to the Maho Bay campground to rent kayaks, book activities, go to the beach or pick up meals was so convenient. The owners Dave and Bonnie along with Terry, their on island manager, are super to work with and went above and beyond to make sure that our stay in their home was perfect. We love this villa and look forward to a return visit because we are definitely coming back to Sunnyledge!

This summer was our family's first trip to STJ and by sheer luck we ended up with what I think is the best location on the island. We had high expectations on the villa and the view after looking thru the photo's posted online, but were still completely blown away the minute we walked in. The villa and view actually brought a tear to my wife's eye. Dave and Bonnie were awesome. They called nearly every day from their stateside home to check on us and to give us advice on snorkeling, etc. We also had some pretty tough travel issues due to an airline cancellation (we arrived a day late after an overnight in Puerto Rico) and Dave and Bonnie were so kind and actually offered to adjust our start/end date to help us get our full vacation on the island. You two are the best! One last note, the privacy at Sunnyledge is quite remarkable. From the view on the back deck, you can see nothing but mountainous forest, distant islands, and the emerald beach below. The villa is very remote, but for relaxers like us - that was perfect.

“Great Place to stay on the North Shore”

Reviewed 13 Dec 2010

We stayed at Sunnyledge initially because of the location to our friends villa on Francis Bay. Sunnyledge turned out to be a great villa with gorgeous views and sunsets. I highly recommend this place to anyone. Just be sure to rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle as the road to the villa is not paved. We snorkeled Francis bay and Leinster bay/Waterlemon cay and saw a sea turtle, spotted eagle ray at both places. Its truly a beautiful home and we will definitely stay at Sunnyledge again when we return to St John.

“Best view on the island”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2010

Sunnyledge is located in a remote area on the north side of St John with fantastic views of Francis Bay, amazing sunsets, and Tortola to the east. The home is wonderfully and comfortably furnished. It is also conveniently located near Maho Bay Resort (a 5 minute walk up the road) for drinks, meals or supplies. Coral Bay is a short drive for evening dining and there are some of the best beaches and snorkeling spots located all along the north shore. Francis Bay, just below us, was our favorite - turtles, stingrays, octopus, squid, vibrant living coral and tons of colorful fish. Dave and Bonnie Rees were very caring and accomodating hosts. Terry, their agent, met us at the ferry dock and was extremely helpful in getting us settled in to life on St John. We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay at Sunnyledge and look forward to returning in the near future.

“The BEST house on St. John”

There is no way to put into words how exceptional and beautiful Sunnyledge is. It's an extraordinary home on an incredible island, and if a better place in the world exists, I haven't seen it yet. Do yourself a favor and rent this perfect place.
