Reviews for this vacation apartment rental in Manhattan, New York
May 16, 2014
Thought I was renting from a real person, turns out it was a rental company. They charged my credit card for the deposit, but when we got to the office to check in, they said they only took cash or a money order. And they charged us an extra $40 to check in on a Sunday. I never received anything that said they wouldn't take a credit card. Seemed sleezy to me. We had to find a place to get a money order. When we got to the apartment, we spent 20 minutes trying to figure out how to get in the doors. There were three different doors to go through, and the keys were a pain in the you-know-what. We called the office, but they weren't helpful at all. We finally figured out how to get in, after 20 minutes of trying. The apartment was actually quite nice. But there are three flights of very steep stairs, so getting luggage up might be a problem for some. The Wi-Fi never worked. We contacted the office, and though they did get back to us once, they never fixed the issue. So we didn't have Wi-Fi for the entire stay. The TVs didn't work, either. You could turn them on, but there was only some strange foreign music station that worked. The beds were actually quite comfortable, and it was incredibly nice having a full kitchen and a separate bed for all parties. The location of the apartment was fabulous. Very close to the subway and many great restaurants (Penelope's is INCREDIBLE)! The property company was kind of sketchy. They operate under a dozen different names, and the fact that they wouldn't take a credit card didn't help. Who carries that kind of cash around? I love the idea of having a private home to stay in while visiting New York, and this was a great home, but I would definitely not go through this rental company again. Too much of a hassle!
