“two weeks in paradice”
Dave and crew did a fantastic job getting the home ready. The house and grounds were beautiful. The pool and hot tubs were crystal clear and refreshing. We enjojed going to key west twice. In key west we couldn,t really tell that a storm had gone thru that is how well they had cleaned it up.The middle keys crews were working 24/7 and in the two weeks we were there did an amazing job.The dock at the house is great good fishing.I would like to say thank you to Dave and his crew they are GREAT!!! Would say don,t let the hurricane stop you from going to the keys.
Owner's reply: Tony stayed with his family and friends stayed from October 14 to October 28th. Throughout the time Tony showed himself to be a someone with a very positive approach to life. Tony it was a pleasure to have you stayed at the Peninsularhouse.
“Feeling young and vibrant! Take on the world! Celebrated our Silver Anniversary!!!”
Peninsular House – Marathon, Florida We had a great time celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary at the Peninsular House – gives you the feel of what “old Florida” would be like - away from everyone, but actually just a hop, skip and jump from everything! Being marine mammal and sea turtle volunteers back in Delaware, we were happy to be so close to the Dolphin Research Center, Turtle Hospital and of course the beautiful waters of the Florida Keys! Gleefully kayaked over to Dolphin Research Center, ate breakfast under the tiki hut and/or on one of the many scenic porches –front, back and side, watched parrot fish chill around the dock while enjoying our morning coffee, appreciated the pool and as luck had it, a newly installed hot tub! Yeah baby! Want to dive, snorkel or fish for the “big one”? Check out Captain Hook’s Marina and Dive Center. Great for SCUBA Refresher and dive trips too! Dave you think of everything inside and out! Don’t want to charter a boat – no worries…fish right off the dock. Just grab a rod provided on the patio and the baits provided (in freezer on outside patio) and fish to your hearts content. House is roomy, clean and comfortable with all the amenities. Secluded by mangroves and water, we so loved the privacy, quite, sunny days and star-lit skies. And I can’t leave out our newest friend across the way that makes you laugh - Kilo (aka Stink-Lo or Stinky) a 500lb sea lion residing at the Dolphin Research Center. Kilo enjoyed barking at the moon a few nights at 4:00AM in anticipation of his harem – sea lioness’ Lina and Karen - who I’m sure played “hard to get” during this sea lion mating season. When I asked my loving husband if he heard Kilo, his response was “ I thought that was you snoring…” Stay Key-zy my friend! Judy & Chris | Middletown, DE p.s. Take good care of Ernest…the colorful resident iguana we named after Ernest Hemingway….very impressive species!
Owner's reply: It was a pleasure having you both to celebrate your Silver Anniversary.
When we found this rental online, we knew it was what we were looking for. Very private, quiet and peaceful. As other reviewers have said, really nice house, but could be amazing. Many items in rental are dated, a few found not to work properly. We found that the cleaning crew is not all that thorough. David, the manager was quick to respond to our concerns. Pool and hot tub were a great retreat. Many iguana's visited each day. They were entertaining. In the end it was an overall great vacation and David was a big help in getting our rental crib returned for us. Just seems like a little money spent on some updates would make this place amazing.
Owner's reply: since march 2017, new bath in master bedroom, new Hot Tub with pergola for shade. 2 new paddle boards. we continually add and replace.
This was our second time staying here. It's a great location, very comfortable and well-equipped house and so peaceful. The owner is great to work with. Can't wait to stay here again!
Owner's reply: Molly, great to see you again.
Thank you David for allowing us to stay at the Peninsular House for Christmas. The house was perfect. Everything was clean and ready and the house was well stocked with anything that a vacationer would need. There were many iguanas that kept us company all week. We had three manatees swim around the dock. We were also visited by a sting ray and a man o' war. Everyday we caught barracuda, needle fish, and snapper - which were delicious! If it was light out, someone was fishing - but there is lighting on the dock for evening fishing. The kayaks were in great shape and provided a lot of fun. We had a green heron that flew in every day, along with a night heron that was living in the mangroves. We also had the pleasure of feeding a great white heron that kept us company everyday while we fished. We usually stay in Key West, but this year wanted something with more water activities for the kids. We drove to Key West for the day - it was only about an hour away. There were great restaurants nearby - Sunset Grill being our favorite, but we also had a grill with three full tanks and a kitchen equipped with everything we needed to cook meals and more importantly, to make our drinks. We cannot thank you enough for the wonderful rental and the ease of renting from you. Our deposit was returned within 5 days of us returning home! Thank you and we will CERTAINLY be back and will recommend this rental to anyone interested in staying in the keys.
Owner's reply: Thanks for coming down to the tropical keys.
The place had everything we wanted, didn't want to go home. Very relaxing and peaceful. Restaurants and the store close by. Lots of wild life around. Great for cycling, walking and kayaking. It was clean and well equipped , plenty of towels. Large flat screen TV's in all the bedrooms. looking forward to going back next year.
Owner's reply: we are very pleased to receive this review. Debra operates a company maintaining vacation rental homes in the Orland area and this review is made by a person who knows the whole range of properties being offered for rental. thank you, David Thomas
“Wonderful private retreat”
We had a wonderful, relaxing vacation! We can't wait to return to the Peninsular House at Grassy Key. Great location and very private. Our dog Sophie hunted the iguanas from morning to dust but they were too fast for her☺️ We would recommend this property to all !
Owner's reply: Tammy & Mark, it was good to see you both, and lets not forget Sophie.
“"At home on the Water"”
My husband and I stayed the first week in October. The water was warm, the weather was a perfect 88 with a breeze every day. The home has a dramatic entrance as you go down the drive. Then you see the water oh the water, everywhere you look. We took advantage of the kayaks, went for a ride everyday. We loved snorkeling at the house, at sombrero beach and took a reef trip at Bahia State Park. Snorkeling was my favorite and my husband was content just sitting in his chair. The house is a home and I had no trouble sleeping in the beautiful master suite with its own private deck overlooking the pool and hot tub. The home was a beauty with a very large great room and a kitchen filled with everything you could possibly need for your daily catch. The three bedrooms had plenty of storage and all bedrooms and great room had enormous TV's that my husband loved I am guessing 55"s. The house has more linens and towels that you could ever need. The home has 4 patio decks with the beautiful views the home has.David was such a nice man. If you need anything he is not far away. The Fun is also supplied with the kayaks, fishing gear, life vests, sand toys for the kids.I can go on WOW. Marathon is a nice area close to sombrero beach and about an hour from the farthest point in the keys. We went to the turtle hospital. The dolphin research center and the Key West Butterfly and Nature conservatory. This was our first time at the keys. Next time we probably won't sight see as much but rent a boat and enjoy nature every day all day. We brought our dog and the keys is where to be if you have a dog. Dogs are allowed everywhere. Also pack your dogs life vest because the will want to kayak with you, swim with you etc. Make sure you bring an underwater camera you will need it. We didn't need wet suits the water was delicious and I usually freeze. There are several dog parks and beaches. My dog loved the water I was quite surprised. The iguanas made us happy to watch them sunbathing every morning. We shared our breakfast with them. They love cut up apples and any kind of fruit or greens. I didn't ask David if this was ok. I hope so. Marathon is the perfect place to stay. Whether you sight see. Go on a snorkeling trip or just along the edges of sombrero beach. Oh yes bring your snorkels and flippers you will want them. Goggles for the salty water that I loved swimming laps in. I could go on and on, it was such a sad day when I had to leave. We will be back we are planning a return now....
Owner's reply: so pleased you had an enjoyable stay.
“Best Family Vaction!”
Amazing! Our adult family of 6 loved our stay here in Grassy Key. The view was beautiful and the amenities were perfect! The pool was a wonderful relaxing retreat at the end of a day on the boat. We appreciated having a nice dock with hoses and lights to pull up to every evening. The kids loved mornings on the kayaks. We will be back again and again. Thank you David Thomas for a wonderfully maintained property. This is the perfect private get away for two or more. I will recommend this property to everyone.
Owner's reply: so glad you all had a good time.
“Most amazing vacation of our lives!”
We can't begin to explain the vacation we had at this home. It was fantastic! David was a pleasure to meet, and his home is a beautiful getaway. We enjoyed the home, dock, the wildlife, and the many amenities he offered with the home. The eldest iguana on the property won my heart and I enjoyed leaving fruit out for his breakfast daily. While fishing we saw a nurse shark, stingray, many fish, and horseshoe crabs. The sand crabs are abundant, but not bothersome and fun to watch. We loved sitting on the porch each evening in the breeze and swimming in the pool, or sitting in the hot tub. Honestly, we hardly left the property! One week was hardly enough and we hope to return next year to enjoy this beautiful home and property. Thank you David for sharing such a wonderful place! You and Rosie made our stay so enjoyable!
Owner's reply: thanks again for staying at the Peninsularhouse. Will let Rosie know.
Owner Supplied Testimonials
After staying for 2 weeks in April 2006, Scott, Sheridy, Dustin & Chance wrote: Dear Dave, We wanted to tell you what a wonderful vacation we had at the peninsular house. It is some of the best money we have ever spent. The private and peaceful surroundings, clean-fresh air and awesome sunrises and sunsets were just what we needed. We had all the comforts of home and found the house to be very comfortable and relaxing. The tarpon fishing from the dock was great even though they evaded our lines and we didn't catch any it was fun trying. We found the marine life in the area to be awesome and highly recommend snorkeling around Sister Rock Island. We found all the local merchants to be most friendly and accommodating and enjoyed some great food and shopping. We will certainly recommend the Peninsular House to our friends and would highly recommend it to anybody that is looking for a relaxing vacation. We look forward to returning next year
