“Feeling young and vibrant! Take on the world! Celebrated our Silver Anniversary!!!”

Reviewed 25 May 2017

Peninsular House – Marathon, Florida We had a great time celebrating our 25th Wedding Anniversary at the Peninsular House – gives you the feel of what “old Florida” would be like - away from everyone, but actually just a hop, skip and jump from everything! Being marine mammal and sea turtle volunteers back in Delaware, we were happy to be so close to the Dolphin Research Center, Turtle Hospital and of course the beautiful waters of the Florida Keys! Gleefully kayaked over to Dolphin Research Center, ate breakfast under the tiki hut and/or on one of the many scenic porches –front, back and side, watched parrot fish chill around the dock while enjoying our morning coffee, appreciated the pool and as luck had it, a newly installed hot tub! Yeah baby! Want to dive, snorkel or fish for the “big one”? Check out Captain Hook’s Marina and Dive Center. Great for SCUBA Refresher and dive trips too! Dave you think of everything inside and out! Don’t want to charter a boat – no worries…fish right off the dock. Just grab a rod provided on the patio and the baits provided (in freezer on outside patio) and fish to your hearts content. House is roomy, clean and comfortable with all the amenities. Secluded by mangroves and water, we so loved the privacy, quite, sunny days and star-lit skies. And I can’t leave out our newest friend across the way that makes you laugh - Kilo (aka Stink-Lo or Stinky) a 500lb sea lion residing at the Dolphin Research Center. Kilo enjoyed barking at the moon a few nights at 4:00AM in anticipation of his harem – sea lioness’ Lina and Karen - who I’m sure played “hard to get” during this sea lion mating season. When I asked my loving husband if he heard Kilo, his response was “ I thought that was you snoring…” Stay Key-zy my friend! Judy & Chris | Middletown, DE p.s. Take good care of Ernest…the colorful resident iguana we named after Ernest Hemingway….very impressive species!

Owner's reply: It was a pleasure having you both to celebrate your Silver Anniversary.

“Beautiful setting”

When we found this rental online, we knew it was what we were looking for. Very private, quiet and peaceful. As other reviewers have said, really nice house, but could be amazing. Many items in rental are dated, a few found not to work properly. We found that the cleaning crew is not all that thorough. David, the manager was quick to respond to our concerns. Pool and hot tub were a great retreat. Many iguana's visited each day. They were entertaining. In the end it was an overall great vacation and David was a big help in getting our rental crib returned for us. Just seems like a little money spent on some updates would make this place amazing.

“Christmas 2016”

Thank you David for allowing us to stay at the Peninsular House for Christmas. The house was perfect. Everything was clean and ready and the house was well stocked with anything that a vacationer would need. There were many iguanas that kept us company all week. We had three manatees swim around the dock. We were also visited by a sting ray and a man o' war. Everyday we caught barracuda, needle fish, and snapper - which were delicious! If it was light out, someone was fishing - but there is lighting on the dock for evening fishing. The kayaks were in great shape and provided a lot of fun. We had a green heron that flew in every day, along with a night heron that was living in the mangroves. We also had the pleasure of feeding a great white heron that kept us company everyday while we fished. We usually stay in Key West, but this year wanted something with more water activities for the kids. We drove to Key West for the day - it was only about an hour away. There were great restaurants nearby - Sunset Grill being our favorite, but we also had a grill with three full tanks and a kitchen equipped with everything we needed to cook meals and more importantly, to make our drinks. We cannot thank you enough for the wonderful rental and the ease of renting from you. Our deposit was returned within 5 days of us returning home! Thank you and we will CERTAINLY be back and will recommend this rental to anyone interested in staying in the keys.

Owner's reply: Thanks for coming down to the tropical keys.

The place had everything we wanted, didn't want to go home. Very relaxing and peaceful. Restaurants and the store close by. Lots of wild life around. Great for cycling, walking and kayaking. It was clean and well equipped , plenty of towels. Large flat screen TV's in all the bedrooms. looking forward to going back next year.

“Great family vacation”

Reviewed 4 Jul 2016

We had an awesome trip! The location is very private. The views are amazing! Kayaking and fishing on site was super fun! Plenty of wildlife. We were able to see dolphin swim by a couple mornings and there are tons of iguanas around. The house is clean and has all you need (linens, towels, etc). The beds were not as comfortable as we are used to but overall the bedroom space and house were great! They have some fishing poles but we suggest your own because they need to be maintained a little better. Also a great spot for paddle boarding or jet skiing! An overall great trip, we'd visit again.

“Something for everyone!”

Our family of 8 had a great time at this very private home. Couldn't have asked for a better vacation. Hot tub, pool, dock for our boat, and a beautiful home. Saw many amazing creatures in the bay! Can not wait for next year to get here!!

Owner's reply: good to hear you enjoyed your stay.

“Christmas in the Keys”

Found this house to be exceptionally accommodating. Loved the view, hot tub and pool and the outside amenities were great. There was lots of different balcony's to watch the world outside, loved them all. The wildlife was fun to watch and the bay was great for kayaking and paddle boarding. The location could not be beat. The inside of the house was cozy, a little older, but very clean.

Owner's reply: thank you for coming to the Florida Keys for Christmas.

“Peninsular Paradise”

We have stayed at this gorgeous house 4 times in the past 10 years. It's amazing location, seclusion, views and quirky charm make it quite simply unique. It's location midway down the Keys also make it perfect as a dual location vacation. We have teamed up a week at Peninsular with Marco Island, Miami, Key West and just this year Disney with our children. If you like wildlife - it's bursting at the seams with amazing birds, fish and even the odd iguana. The house itself has great amenities of a plunge pool, spa, hammocks, kayaks, fishing rods and bait freezer... Everything you need to rest, relax and have fun. David the owner is easily contactable and is always ready with a new set of restaurants and activities for us to experience - making each visit fresh. We recommend to take a trip on the Marathon Lady fishing boat. The guys who run the trip are super characters and you always come back with a great catch which if you would like they will fillet for you before you leave. There's really nothing better than to cook your catch on the BBQ and then sit with a beer eating and looking out over the sea listening to the waves. If you can tear yourself away from the views there's also a great tv complete with cable to watch the odd movie! You will never regret booking this house.... You will just regret having to leave!!

Owner's reply: thanks Kathryn, its always good to see you and the family. glad you enjoyed Disney World before coming to the Peninsularhouse.

“Penninsular paradise”

Penninsular House is quite simply magical. It's quirky charm, secluded location and spectacular views make it unique. We have stayed here four times in the past 10 years. Its location half way down the Keys make it an ideal dual location spot. We have teamed it up with a week somewhere else in Florida ie Key West, Miami, Marco Island - and this year Disney..... But we always save our stay at Penninsular House for the second week to bask in the sun in its tranquil surroundings and completely relax and recuperate. For those of you who like wild life - it's bursting at the seams with beautiful birds, fish and even the odd iguana. We recommend taking the fishing trip on Marathon Lady and then cooking your catch up a storm on the excellent BBQ. There are plenty of great restaurants nearby and David the owner is always ready with a fresh set of recommendations to ensure we get to experience new locations! The house has plenty of amenities with a plunge pool and spa, kayaks, fishing rods etcetera. I also go running through the quiet streets which is great because you always meet a friendly neighbour or two and I always get some ideas for my garden at home from some of the beautiful planting. In the house itself, the beds are super comfortable with lovely sheets etc and in the evenings if you can drag yourself from the balcony looking out to sea - it has a huge tv complete with cable if you just want to chill out with a movie. I can't recommend more highly this rental - you won't regret booking here - you will just regret having to leave!

“Return to Peninsular Paradise!”

Reviewed 13 Apr 2015

This was our second stay at Peninsular House and although I didn't think it was possible, we actually enjoyed all this amazing property has to offer even more. Since we had stayed here previously, we were able to better plan so we could spend as much quality time enjoying all the amenities left by the owner as we possibly could. We even found ourselves planning our lunches early at one of the many great restaurants that we traveled to by boat so we could the rest of the day to hang around the pool and patio area that overlooked the beautiful bay and Dolphin research center. We could even see the dolphins jumping! We generally stayed by the pool until the sun dipped behind the Mangrove trees. Dave recently added two tiki huts to his property, one out at the very end of the peninsula which turned out to be a great place to enjoy a cocktail and some late afternoon sun. No matter the weather (ours was amazing) you can find someplace to enjoy the day or night on one of the four decks or under the house where you will find two huge hammocks, tables and chairs and even a day bed in case you enjoy siestas. In the evening, we usually retired to the huge screened in porch also overlooking the water. The inside of the house is equally as nice with spacious bedrooms, a dance hall size living room and a nice kitchen. The house is well stocked with plenty of sheets, towels, blankets and anything else you might need and the kitchen is ready for cooking if that's what you enjoy while on vacation. It's actually a shame we don't spend more time inside this wonderful house but there is too much to savor outside. After a few days, we found ourselves lacking exercise after all the great meals so several of us took a scenic tour using one of the kayaks owner Dave also supplies. If you are looking for a unique taste of the Keys that has everything you need, this is the place for you. I guarantee you won't be disappointed and will want to book it year after year (just don't take our week!). We are even considering changing our Thanksgiving plans to include Peninsular House. You won't find an amazing experience like this any where else in the Keys. Thanks Dave for another wonderful family vacation! Eric, Kent, Arline, Robin

Owner's reply: you and your family, plus the dogs are always welcome.

My wife and I have vacationing here for over 15 years. We look forward to this every year. We then invited our grownup children and their families to come with us and they keep reminding us to book the house for the one week vacation every year. The family time together in such a tranquil setting is one of the most enjoyable times we have together during the year. We will be coming here for as long as we can. Ed

From Eric (NC) and his brother Kent (Ohio)
The pictures don't do this paradise justice!
We were looking for someplace unique to spend our Spring break when my brother in Ohio stumbled on Peninsularhouse so we decided to give it a try. Upon arriving, we drove down a windy driveway that appeared to dead end into the water but after making the last hard turn, there it was an amazing house on our very own private peninsula. The house is wonderful with it's huge living/dining area overlooking the water but you will find it difficult to remain inside for long with all of this properties outdoor amenities. You can relax on the second level decks front and back or if you want to escape the sun, you can enjoy natures sounds from the screened in porch or the well furnished carport area. You can even hear and see the dolphins at the research center across the bay! After a wonderful boat ride across the bay to one of several great restaurants, our happy hour always started off sitting around the tranquil pool/ hot tub area surrounded by trees and other plant life. Our evenings were often spent enjoying the night air on the spacious screened in porch. A nice tidal pool provided swimming entertainment for our dogs and you could easily access the water from the large boat dock if you wanted more of an open area to swim. Using the owner furnished kayaks, we were also able to explore the area by water. I know this sounds trivial but this place even has a bathroom in the carport area so you don't have to enter the house if you are wet from swimming or hot tubbing which is a huge plus after you've sipped on a couple cocktails. Inside, you will find a well furnished house with plenty of seating and three comfy bedrooms including a large master with it's own private deck. This is truly a remarkable place that once you stay, you will want to keep going back. I know we are! After returning from our amazing time, we immediately talked it over and booked it for next year's Spring Break. Give PeninsularHouse a try, you won't regret it!
