“Most amazing vacation ever!”

Reviewed 8 Jul 2016

From the moment we arrived we were impressed. The home was just beautiful. It was very clean, very spacious and beautifully decorated inside and out. The tropical flowers that greeted us when we arrived made us feel like we had indeed come to paradise. The view of the gulf was amazing especially at sunset! Snorkeling off our dock, we were treated to Angel fish, parrot fish, horseshoe crabs, spiny lobsters and so many more. Great kayaking to nearby islands where we were treated to some great birding and fishing. Fishing from the dock was also a lot of fun. My son-in-law caught two nurse sharks which was exciting! With 6 adults and 4 teenagers there was plenty of room to spread out and enjoy! We were pleased that the house had on hand everything we needed. The kitchen was well stocked, plenty of towels and linens and extra bedding. We wanted for nothing. The pool was clean and refreshing, plenty of lounge chairs and surrounded by beautiful coconut trees. Truly, we were in paradise! Thank you for an amazing vacation! “Nice place!”

We've vacation rented in Marathon now for the last 15 years so we know what's out there. By far the nicest home for the money. It had everything kitchenwise incuding a rice steamer and a full rack of cooking spices. The rooms are spacious and the house stays cold. The outside shower is perfect for a quick rinse after a day on the water. It's a 2 min walk to the 7 mile bridge for your nightly sunset celebration. The dock is great to fish on and my girls caught plently of fish.... not many keepers but they didn't care. We saw plenty of dolphin and tarpon swimming in the basin. You can snorkle right across the basin in nthe rocks. Plenty of life including lobsters, octopus, and sea urchins. Be sure to take a float with a dive flag as there is boat traffic from the campground. The only negative is that boat traffic. Some people do not respect the "No Wake" signs and that caused some damage to our boat even though we had fenders galore. I would stay here again no problem though. Loved the open water look and the fact we could see how many boats were on Sombrero.

“Spacious, beautiful, comfortable home !”

My family and soon to be in laws took a vacation to this home with my little dachshund to celebrate my birthday . Upon getting to the house we realized how much parking there was , we were worried as we had two boats with us, and just how beautiful and well landscapes the property was . The house was separated with 2bd 2bth on either side by the spacious living room and dining area. That was perfect for each family to stay on their side ! The only negative thing was that we called to figure out how to use the kayaks as they were locked up and we were informed that we had to pay for them ... That was never disclosed on the agreement or when I met with the realtor. Overall, we had a great experience and booked the house for the next year to Come .

Owner's reply: So sorry for any mis understanding on the kayaks. Please come back again, and enjoy the kayaks on us!

This place has it all! Kitchen is stocked to accommodate any meal! Rooms were spacious and the view with pool and hammock were great. Snorkeling right off the dock and fishing galore.

Owner's reply: Thanks for taking the time to write Danielle. Hope we see you again in the future. Barbara

“Aptly named!”

Reviewed 8 Jan 2016

We recently returned from a 3-generation family vacation with our daughter and her family. This truly was a "South of Reality" experience for us! There was plenty to do to keep everyone happy and busy for the week ...from the kayaks to the hot tub to the pool to the dock for fishing to the pool table. We had a 19 year old and 2 21year olds with us and everyone had a great time and ready to go back! The house is a great set-up. There are 2 separate bedroom areas with 2 BR and 2 BA in each.one. The younger generation had their own "wing" and the "not-so-young" had the other one. Perfect for our situation. Barbara McKee was excellent to work with thru the whole rental process. I highly recommend this lovely home.

Owner's reply: Thanks so much for taking the time to write. So happy you enjoyed yourself and thanks for taking the time to write us. Hope we see you again in the not to distant future!

“Relaxing vacation, and outstanding gulf view!”

Reviewed 16 Jul 2015

We arrived on the 4th of July for the week, boats in tow. The boat launch was only 2 blocks from the house. This home offers plenty of room to park two boat trailers with ease. We watched fireworks from our boat on the first evening and cruised out daily for snorkeling. Easy access to your boat from your private dock. The home was well equipped, comfortable with plenty of room for 6 adults. We enjoyed swimming in the pool to cool down after a hot day on the water. Great local restaurants, Burdines and Key's Fishery. We cooked most meals at home. I cannot say enough about the management, Barbara took care of our every need, and was very attentive. We are all in agreement, we would return and enjoy this home again. Great memories!

Owner's reply: Thanks Lynne: I am so glad to hear you had a pleasant stay with us. It makes the whole team here happy!!! Hope to see you again soon! Barbara

“Relaxing Week in the Keys”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2015

Gulfstar was a great house for a first time renter like our family. We had the fabulous views of the gulf and the sunsets were absolutely beautiful. We were able to swim, snorkel, kayak and paddle board in our very own backyard. The house met all of our needs and with a washer and dryer right there, we went home with clean laundry.

Owner's reply: Thanks for taking the time to review our property. We hope to see you again real soon!!

“Awesome Vacation”

Reviewed 29 Jun 2015

Just returned home from a week's stay. There were 6 of us and the house was laid out so we all had our own space. The house was clean, nicely furnished and had everything we needed. We usually vacation on the South Carolina coast and wanted to go somewhere where we didn't have to deal with hundreds of other vacationers on the beach. We were not disappointed. It was great to have our own pool and we loved fishing from the dock and playing pool at night in the screened in area by the pool. Our daughter loved napping in the hammock under the palm trees. We rented a boat for two days and went snorkeling at Sombrero reef. The sunsets were amazing. It was about an hour drive to Key West but well worth the drive. The house is conveniently located within a short driving distance to many restaurants if you don't want to cook. We were sad to leave South of Reality to get back to our reality. We are already making plans to return next year.

Owner's reply: Hi Kay: Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We try hard to ensure everyone has a great stay. We hope to see you again in the future. Thanks so much, Barbara McKee Property manager

“Great Location”

Reviewed 13 Jun 2015

The house was a perfect fit for our 2 families. We loved being out on the dock for sunset and getting in some extra fishing off the water. Great location and dock for bringing or renting a boat. It was about the same amount of time to go around the bridge to Oceanside or go through Vaca cut. Everything in the house is nice and its a comfortable place to relax. We would stay there again if we come back to Marathon. The kitchen lacks a few things but they are very minor. I have never been in a rental that didn't have any salt & pepper or dishtowels.

Owner's reply: Hi Tim: Thanks for taking the time to write the review, it is appreciated. I wish you would have called us for the kitchen towels and salt and pepper. We would have been more than happy to send it over. Hope you will come back and see us again. Thanks so much!
