“Mar Azul is perfect!”

Reviewed 3 Nov 2014

The house and lush landscaping are beautiful! We enjoyed the pool so much. The private dock is a great touch even though we don't have a boat. We would recommend this property highly! Quaint restaurants in Marathon have some great food, too! We were excited to have iguanas on the property having never seen one before.

Owner's reply: Thank you very much for you wonderful review - we really appreciate you taking the time to let others know what a great time you had! We certainly hope to have you back down to Mar Azul again...enjoy the upcoming Holidays and New Year! All the best, Lisa

“Welcome to your own private paradise...”

We spent the 2nd week of February 2014 at Mar Azul, and absolutely loved it! The home was very well kept, and had all the amenities as advertised. We spent the week there with another couple, with relaxation as our main objective, and Mar Azul did not disappoint! The master suite on the top floor was fabulous, with a large bathroom, walk in closet, and a nice sitting area for watching TV or just gazing out at the ocean. The decks on each level were great for enjoying morning coffee and catching beautiful photos of the sunrise. The half bath on the main floor is very convenient, and we also used the washer/dryer to freshen up a few things while we were there. The two main bedrooms have attached bathrooms, making it very easy to share this home with another couple or family. The Olympics were going on during our stay, and the many TV's in the house made it easy to keep up on the action in the evening. The pool and patio area was absolutely heavenly. As mentioned in previous reviews, the pool is not large, but is big enough to provide a cool reprieve after basking in the sun on the lounge chairs. There are ample chairs, tables, and shaded areas in the pool area to meet everyone's needs. We spent a LOT of time down there. The nature walk through the mangroves to the dock is also beautiful and quite an adventure. I was able to photograph a number of birds, iguanas, and even a jellyfish down there. We also spent a day at Sombrero Beach, kayaking and stand up paddleboarding, which was great fun. I would recommend Bob at Keys Kayak - he delivered the equipment right to the beach and picked it up as soon as we called - very convenient! We had dinner our last night at the Sunset Grille by the Seven Mile Bridge. The sunset was amazing and the food and service were excellent. They also had a gentleman playing guitar all night, and he was very entertaining and easy to listen to. All in all, our stay at Mar Azul in Marathon was absolutely fantastic, and we would definitely consider going back again or to Lisa's other property in Fort Lauderdale. She was very easy to work with, and had our security deposit check back to us in under a week! I suggested a couple of minor additions to the kitchen utensils (we did a lot of cooking at the house), and she has already added them. It is obvious that she cares about her property and her guests. This home is everything it is advertised to be. Check it out!

Owner's reply: Thank you SO much for taking the time and writing such wonderful thoughts and ideas for future guests, really appreciate it! It's our pleasure to have you stay at Mar Azul and really hope to have you back again soon!! Take care and enjoy the upcoming Spring! All the best, Lisa

“Don't Worry.....Be Happy!!”

Traveling hundreds of miles to an unknown vacation rental, can be a very daunting experience.... however, after reading all the 5 star reviews about Mar Azul, our family of five, felt very confident about making our reservation and deciding on where we wanted to spend our summer vacation. However, nothing could prepare us for the beautiful experience we had at Mar Azul. The home is lovely, spacious, airy, bright and so tastefully decorated. It is also, immaculate! Everything you could possibly need to get your vacation started was provided. The private dock, gardens and pool area were so picturesque and well maintained and the homes location at the end of a quiet street made it a perfect retreat. The real star of Mar Azul however was the beautiful view! The spacious balconies offered magnificent views of the ocean and nightly sunsets and waking up every morning to those views , especially from the master suite, was awesome. This was our family's first visit to the Keys and choosing to stay in Marathon Key was also a great decision. Among our favorite mini trips were a visit to Sombrero Beach, Seven Mile Bridge and two visits to Key West where we loved all the restaurants, the open air trolley and of course, Mallory Square. A special thank you to Lisa Douglas who was so helpful and so eager to make sure her "house guests" had a stress free, wonderful vacation! And Lisa we all did! Thank you for sharing your beautiful, Mar Azul with us! and everyone else...don't worry you will be happy at Mar Azul!

Owner's reply: Thank YOU very much, Alexis! We really, really appreciate all your thoughtfulness in presenting such a wonderful review of Mar Azul! We look forward to having you and your family back - maybe a yearly trip?!! Have a fantastic summer and keep in touch! All the best, Lisa

“First Class”

Everything at Mar Azul was First Class. The master suite was spectacular at sunrise. The walk through the mangroves was a Swiss Family Robinson experience. We'll be back.

“Awesome place”

Reviewed 10 Aug 2010

We stayed at mar azul for a week of snorkeling and boating and you couldn't dream of a more luxurious place. It's gorgeous inside and out and has every possible amenity you could desire. The pool is beautiful, the street extremely quiet and the location a 10. The master suite is something out of a magazine with it's expansive views of the ocean, glass doors and windows everywhere and covered porch. A really nice, comfortable beautiful place!!

“"A Wonderful Oasis"”

Reviewed 12 May 2010

We just returned from 7 days at Mar Azul (4 adults) It does not get much better than this. Mar Azul is a true tropical Oasis in Marathon, the mid way point of the keys. It is very clean with modern design and decor, very comfortable, great interior and exterior layout, exterior landscaping very tropical and private. Walk way to dock through Mangroves is beautiful - very unique. Delighted to see the resident Greek Tortoise. To top it all off the fishing is okay right off the dock (caught a few small Snapper and other small fish). Pool is small but certainly enough to get cooled off in. We did swim off the dock during high tide - a little murky but safe enough (watch your feet on the dock ladder - a few sharp mollusks). Marathon is ideal with lots of local waterfront restaurants. We chose to cook a few meals and the kitchen and the BBQ and sitting area was more than adequate (the BBQ was even clean). We were sad to leave Mar Azul but look forward to our next visit. Thanks for everything Lisa !!

“Just what we were looking for!!!”

Reviewed 20 Apr 2010

Mar Azul was fabulous!!! We just spent a very relaxing week at this lovely home. It felt extremely private although you were right in Marathon. The balconies were spacious and had great ocean views. The master bedroom was pictuesque and very large. The pool area was the perfect outdoor oasis. My sons fished off the private dock and had fun catching a variety of fish. Lisa took great care of us and of all the places that we have rented she was the most attentive and truly interested in making our week wonderful. Our week went way too quick! We would definitely go back to Mar Azul!!!

“Perfect Private Paradise !!”

Reviewed 19 Sep 2009

SO MUCH BETTER THAN A RESORT!! We spent our 25th Anniversary celebration here and had the time of our lives! We truly enjoyed the beautiful home, secluded back yard & pool, wonderful lush tropical landscaping, and the gourmet outdoor grill. You can pick up some steaks at Publix grocerey store or fresh seafood at the nearby Keys Fishery to make a superb dinner! Mar Azul's middle-of-the-Keys location makes day trips to Key West, John Pennekamp State Park(great snorkel trip), and Bachia Honda State Park(great beach) just a short drive away. Thanks so much for a superb vacation! We look forward to returning!

Wonderful, very relaxing, peaceful seculded setting. The pool and patio areas were very nice and the ocean dock perfect for morning coffee and some fishing. The home was very clean and quite confortable great for family and friends. We truly enjoyed our stay here and most definately will recomend this home to friends looking to stay in the Keys. Only draw-back we found was the limited internet access and while I was on vacation my husband had planned on working a bit. Otherwise Fantastic Home. Only 45 minutes to Key West, what a fun time!!!
