“Lovely home and guesthouse”

Reviewed 26 Oct 2016

The main house was very clean and exactly how it was shown and described. We had many amenities and Tanya was a very gracious and responsive owner, as was her helper Ana. The guesthouse is just steps away but you do feel like you have private space from the main house. All of the appliances were great, the house was well stocked with gadgets and anything you might need to cook a great meal. The beauty of the woods from the windows and decks was great and got some good views and exercise hiking around the property. We did run into a problem not having enough water to shower with 6 adults and two kids getting ready at the same time for a wedding. There's a lot of ladybugs in the guesthouse, but I've always considered that good luck. Thanks, Tanya.

“Superb house”

Reviewed 30 Jul 2016

The house has an immaculate attention to detail, labeling all equipment and accessories while providing all instructions needed to any possible questions. It was a little rough first finding our way to the house once we got on the ground gravel portion of the road and our cars had a hard time climbing the driveway. House has a perfect location to anything you're interested in. Erase any doubts you have and book as soon as you can!

Owner's reply: Thank you for taking the time to post your review. We are do glad you enjoyed your stay. Tanya

“Nice stay!”

Reviewed 15 Oct 2015

My husband and I went there last week with our golden retriever. We enjoyed our stay. PROS: The place is clean. Any time you stay in a place that accepts pets, there is a possibility that you will see evidence of such. Apparently very responsible dog owners have stayed here in the past or they are diligent about fixing damage. The place looked nice. Shower has good pressure and the water was hot. It's quiet there. Beautiful, peaceful. Washer/dryer Very nice/helpful manager CONS: Only one: the driveway. And it is only a problem if you own a car that ways precisely 7.3 lbs and what appears to be zero wheel drive. There is one area that was steep and had larger gravel. Every time we drove up the lane I was sure we would not make it. But we did. There are reasons people who live in the mountains don't own roller skates for cars! The drive is well maintained though and no problem if you have a reasonable vehicle.

This place was a perfect fit for us, and really close to the rafting company! The fenced in yard is perfect if you have a small pet! We very much enjoyed being in woods outside on the spacious deck! We will definitely be back! Thanks for sharing with us!

Owner's reply: Thank you for the kind review. So glad you and your pup enjoyed your stay.

“Relaxing retreat for family & pups!”

Reviewed 14 Sep 2015

We had a delightful time during our stay at The Gatehouse. The property was well appointed and the furnishings were very inviting. One of the best features for our needs was the gated deck and property. Our two dogs, Chloe and Fred had a wonderful time lounging on the deck and exploring nature in the fenced backyard. If you are looking for a peaceful retreat to get away from the city hustle and bustle this is the place for you! As a bonus, the WiFi worked great so we could research places to go during our visit. One place we found online was Zuma Coffee. If you like the quaint coffee shop vibe be sure to check this place out - the oatmeal raisin cookies are out of this world! Also, there are plenty of trails/parks which are dog friendly and many Asheville attractions (e.g. Biltmore Estate) are just a short drive. We'd definitely like to return to The Gatehouse in the near future.

Owner's reply: Amber - thank you so much for your kind review. We are pleased that you and your pups enjoyed your stay. Marshall really is a quaint town with some cool places to visit.

“Perfect getaway location”

Reviewed 5 Jun 2015

If you have dogs this cabin is absolutely perfect. The fenced in yard is just so convenient. The fence is well maintained and high enough to where most dogs will not be able to jump it. I have a Rottweiler and 2 Pit Bulls and they simply loved running up and down the hill. The cabin itself was very clean and very well maintained inside. All the necessities are there. All kitchen items, towels, blankets and sheets are provided. To my surprise even the wifi worked perfect and was very fast. The only thing to keep in mind is that to get to this fantastic location you have to go up a very steep and narrow dirt road. Summer time, probably no problem even with a regular car, but winter time I guarantee you will need 4x4. Would love to go back next year

Owner's reply: Hi Ian - thanks you for your kind review. I am so glad you, your Mom, Aunt and your four legged friends enjoyed your stay.

“Great for dog lovers!”

Reviewed 23 Feb 2015

We had a wonderful time staying at this little place with our two pups! The yard (hill) is completely fenced and the decks are also completely fenced, providing us with lots of comfort about the security of our pets. The house was clean, tidy and had everything we needed. There's also a dog door and extra water bowls if you need them. The drive up to the house is quite steep and I'm not sure we would have made it without 4 wheel drive the day it snowed, it was quite an adventure getting up there! :) This location is close to Marshall, Hot Springs and part of the Appalachian Trail - a must do if you have dogs! It's a little far from Asheville for every day back and forth driving but otherwise perfect for what we needed! We would definitely recommend staying here!

Owner's reply: Hi Nicole - glad you enjoyed your stay at the Gatehouse. And yes, you have to be up for the views but 4- wheel does help especially when it snows.Thank you for the nice review. I hope your husband is feeling better.

“Very nice”

Reviewed 18 Oct 2014

We enjoyed our stay at this property very much. It was clean, comfortable, and modern. It was a pretty easy 30 min drive to Asheville and not much further to some of the other attractions like Chimney Rock and Black Mountain. The only thing I missed in the unit was a TV in the bedroom. There is a computer in the unit but it was extremely slow. There was also wi-fi but I could never get my laptop on-line but we did get our iPhones logged in. Overall it was a very pleasant weekend and I would be happy to return.

“Great location and wonderful property”

Reviewed 31 Jul 2013

We stayed at The Gatehouse for a five day trip and couldn't be happier. There were a couple hiccups with the water, but the caretaker was responsive and fixed the problem quickly and everything was perfect. It's quiet and secluded, at the top of a mountain. The closest neighbors are at the bottom. Close to Marshall and Hot Springs if you prefer the road less travelled, and not far from Asheville if you prefer to be around more people. The property is fenced in for the dog. Ours (a Chocolate Lab) loved it! The fence is substantial enough that you don't have to worry about your pup getting free. We will definitely be back.

Owner's reply: Really nice folks who were quite gracious. Looking forward to your coming back, perhaps during the glorious leaf season? Let us know.

“Most peaceful vacation ever!”

Reviewed 27 Nov 2011

My best friend and I and a big old Corgi dog spent a couple of days at The Gatehouse over Thanksgiving break. What a peaceful, relaxing time we had! It was so quiet there. The first morning when I took the dog out, to my delight a couple of deer scampered through the woods. The beds were the most comfortable we had ever slept in. We had everything we needed for a couple of days away from the rat race. Thanks, Tanya, for your hospitality. Cherie

Ed and I thank you for your hospitality. Harley and Abigail (Yorkies 6 yrs. and 7 yrs. old) were happy and adjusted quite nicely. They will surely miss romping thru the outdoor spaces. As for Ed and I we celebrated our 15th anniversary at The Grove Park Inn Resort and Spa overlooking the mountains and watched a glorious sunset. The N.C. towns of Marshall, Asheville, Black Mountain, Weaverville, Mars Hill and Johnson City in Tenn were a treat to visit. Thank you. The Graysons.

Thank you Tanya for your excellent house. We enjoyed the lovely and functional furniture and decorations as well as finding every need met including the sewing kit which came in very handy as Jackie and Don finished a wedding quilt top for our friends whose wedding we came to attend. Tanya. What a wonderful place you have! We really enjoyed ourselves. This is such a peaceful location with easy access to Asheville, Hot Springs and many other sites. Deacon, our dog, was in heaven. It was such a treat for us to be able to bring him and have a place for him to run and "explore" without being worried about him. We were all able to relax. We will definitely recomment your place to to others. We will be back! Thanks. Cathy, Chris & Deacon.

The Gatehouse is a wonderful place to get away from it all. Set in the woods, high in the hills, you feel as though you have the world to yourself. Deer are frequent visitors and the night time sky is spectacular. And when you feel the need for activity, outdoor adventures are close at hand and downtown Marshall, Weaverville and Asheville are all a short drive away. Thank you! David and CeeCee.

The Gatehouse is wonderful. Tanya has furnished this rental will all of the classic comforts of home. Asheville is a magical, adorable town. Greg and I visited the Biltmore for our first time and let's just say ... and I said "Yes". We may be back within the year to marry where he proposed. For pet owners the backyard is perfect and the view in every room in the house is breathtaking. Thank you, Tanya!! We will be back. Rochelle, Greg and Harley

“Eagles Rest is a stunning property, with access to the woods and a sense of coziness that makes you never want to leave it. We had a brilliant time there, thanks to Tanya whose organization in preparing the house for the 9 of us was impeccable. Everything we needed was there and more. There was enough comfortable space for everyone, and whilst the location is hard to find she was perfectly clear with directions so none got lost or confused. We were all incredibly satisfied and happy to have chosen Tanya's house for out stay in North Carolina.”
