About Brewster

Brewster, Massachusetts on Cape Cod was once home to wealthy sea captains and is now an ideal vacation spot for those who enjoy the ocean and a simpler lifestyle. With quaint salt-box homes and cottages, there are a number of options to choose from when searching through Brewster vacation rentals.

Things to Do

The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is located in Brewster. There you'll find stunning views and delightful walking trails. There's a boardwalk through the salt marshes and excellent bird watching. Visitors to the Cape also enjoy Nickerson State Park's 1,900 acres of piney woods, a departure from the Cape's usual sand dunes and salt marshes. The Stony Brook Grist Mill and Museum offers a look back at how mills used water power to grind corn into meal. Don't miss the herring run across the street.  The herring will "run" the fish locks made from stones in the stream when the air temps are above 50 degrees. It's a spectacle humans and sea gulls enjoy, but for different reasons.

Families spending time in nearby Brewster vacation rentals will be happy to know that there are several beautiful beaches in the area. Crosby Landing Beach is a great beach for kids because of its low waves and ample flats. During low tide, large sandbars form and are the perfect hangout spot on a hot summer day. Paine’s Creek is another wonderful, family-friendly beach, featuring tidal pools, an abundance of horseshoe crabs, and gentle surf.

Transit

The Cape offers a leisurely lifestyle where most people staying at a Brewster vacation rental enjoy walking and bike riding along the Cape Cod Rail Trail. However, if you'd like to explore the villages in this area, having a car is handy but not necessary. You can take a shuttle from Boston's Logan Airport or take the Cape Flyer (train) from a number of suburbs with service during the summer on Friday-Sunday. The Flyer offers free WiFi and pets are welcome. The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority also provides limited year-round Cape bus and Trolley service.

Climate

Brewster experiences all four seasons. Winter temps average in the 30s, while late spring brings a pleasant average in the 60s. Summer daytime temps are in the 70s but the water is chilly. Fall offers crisp, light-jacket weather in the 50s.

Events

Brewster in Bloom is a multi-day festival put on by the Chamber of Commerce. Winters are long here and by early May the town awakens to a carpet of colorful daffodils. To celebrate, the town hosts a golf tournament, antiques and arts fair, a free band concert, a 5K, Kidsfest, craft show, and parade. Each summer, the town of Brewster celebrates homemade arts and crafts made by more than 50 local vendors at the Brewster Oceanside Arts & Crafts Show. In early December the town enjoys another three-day festival, Brewster for the Holidays. This event includes an illumination ceremony, a concert, craft show, and gallery stroll. There's even a special Family Party at the Cape Cod Natural History Museum.

Shopping

Brewster offers a number of unique shopping opportunities, including galleries with works from local artisans, antique stores, and fine gift boutiques. There are also a number of dining choices, including purveyors of the famous Brewster oysters, which have a unique "bite" derived from the clean, clear water of the Cape Cod Bay and the Brewster Flats.

A Brewster vacation rental allows you to enjoy the Cape and feel more like a resident and less like a tourist. You can easily explore the winding roads and salt marsh views on a bike or by foot. No matter whether you visit during summer's prime time or enjoy the quiet of the off-season, it's a vacation you'll remember.
