About Wellfleet

Wellfleet is a rural seaside community in Barnstable County, Massachusetts. The town sits between the “tip” and “elbow” of Cape Cod making it a prime location on Cape Cod that has long attracted East Coasters seeking a break from the city. Today, the town boasts one of the cape's top seashores, and there's no shortage of Wellfleet vacation rentals welcoming vacationers from all over the U.S.

Climate

Wellfleet and the rest of Cape Cod have a moderate coastal climate, with mild summers and cold winters. In July and August, summer temperatures top out around 80 degrees, while winter temperatures typically drop into the 20s. With such comfortable summer weather, Wellfleet and the rest of the cape tend to be busiest from about June through September.

Transit

Fly into Provincetown Municipal Airport, which is less than 20 miles from Wellfleet, or fly into Boston Logan International Airport, which is about 100 miles from town. Though you'll want a car to cover long distances on the cape, you can walk or bike from most Wellfleet vacation homes to the beach and other local attractions.

Things to Do

The Wellfleet area's top attraction is the Cape Cod National Seashore, a stunning expanse of shoreline that stretches for 40 miles. After checking in at one of the best Wellfleet vacation rentals, visitors can throw on their bathing suits and head to the seashore. It is the ideal spot to swim, surf, bike on three different trails, walk along 12 diverse trails, or spot sharks and foxes. In rain or shine, you'll never be at a loss for things to do at the Cape Cod National Seashore.

On the Wellfleet Harbor side of the Cape, don't miss the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, which boasts miles of trails, a salt marsh, pine woodlands, and even a sandy beach. Here you can also learn all about local wildlife and landscape through educational exhibits and aquariums.

Other great places to check out include the Wellfleet Historical Society Museum, Oliver’s Red Clay Tennis Courts, and The Wellfleet Drive-In.

Food

Like most of Cape Cod, Wellfleet is best known for its seafood and fish, much of it caught and processed locally. Grab lunch or dinner at Mac's Shack, where the local oysters are top-notch, and the clam chowder and fish tacos fly off the shelves every day.
