“Loved our stay in Woodville!”

Reviewed 1 Jun 2015

We rented this cabin for 3 nights in late May... it's as beautiful as the photos hint. Off the grid, but power is available with a generator (that we didn't use), as propane lights and appliances are all we needed. We didn't meet Liz, but Steve was wonderful, and provided shuttle service as we canoed the Penobscot from Grindstone (E Branch) to about 10 miles below the cabin. The reviews are all positive, and for good reason. This place and the people who run it are true gems! Even the millions of black flies were friendly, and didn't taint the experience. We truly had a grand time.

Owner's reply: It is always great to meet nice people who enjoy maines great outdoors like we do, it was nice to meet you and your friends Paul and hope to see you again, Steve and Liz

“Great Deal, Nice Wilderness feel”

Reviewed 20 Aug 2014

Steve was a great host. He is easy going and helps to start on a good foot. You can tell he enjoys the area and wildlife, which great to talk about with him. The cabin is a good set up and the porch makes it relaxing. The fishing was fun a lot of large mouth bass. The area was very private and a lot of side roads to take a little drive to see moose. Bear were around once in a while and had new footprints on the shore almost everyday. The canoe and kayaks were a great feature. I took my wife and her friend up river and was a good time. When we floated back we saw the bald eagles nest on an island and also could see bass following the shadow of the canoe. This is a good location for keeping it simple in the wilderness. I also found a lot of interesting rocks when the river was low. I enjoyed kayaking over to a small rock island when the water was low and pulled in a decent sized 16 inch, 2 lb bass. It was pretty good eating as well. There are many options with trails for walking as well. There are many options for sight seeing with New Brunswick not too far away and also Mt. Katahdin Region. The good thing is stores aren't too far away. We also visited the American Loggers Restaurant before we went home. It was pretty cool to see the main character walk by. The inside of the cabin was very roomy and very reasonable. We had hurricane Arthur come in but that just made a wet firework show, but it's still a good memory. My wife's friend also had a flat tire and we had very few options due to 4th july weekend. Her car jack wouldn't fit and the Car was stuck before the rail road tracks. I guess the heat got to us, because we were all out of ideas besides getting Triple A to come out to help get the tire off. We waited 2 hours. The guy didn't have a pump so the spare was flat and we couldn't test the tire. We decided to go to walmart and get a pump. Didn't think of getting a universal jack, but I called Steve and he offered his universal and help check it out. He was great help. We weren't quite thinking clearly and helped us get back on track and that's why he was a great host. It was a bizarre day with the car, but we still saw lunar moths flying and small rabbits in the dark coming home with the tire that night. Strange day and little creepy having to pull in the boats that night in the mist. Will never forget the experiences we had. good times. Wouldn't be maine if it wasn't a little strange and never a dull moment.

Owner's reply: It was great to meet both of you and your friend and we really appreciate your nice review and hope to see you in the future. steve and liz

“great maine experience”

Reviewed 7 Jul 2014

The fishing was "ok", since the Penebscot river was still floating at full speed, after melted ice. And the weather was on a chilly side. But the host was excellent. Beautiful, cozy cabin! we were impressed by everything. Thank you!!!

“Another great week at camp.”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2014

We had another great week at camp. Steve and Liz are great hosts. As always the cabin was very clean and well equipped when we arrived. We enjoyed fishing, kayaking, moose watching and just relaxing and spending time together. We are already planning a couple return trips next year.

“Beautiful place for natur lovers!”

Reviewed 12 Jan 2014

It was our first trip to the USA and we decided to spent a week in the maine woods. We had the plan to use the cabin as a headquarter and to make a lot of trips. As soon as we arrived we didn't wan't to leave anymore! We enjoyed swimming (the water was very warm!), boat trips and of course birdwatching. It's a pity we didn't see any bears, coyotes or porcupine! Steve told us, they are always around. Thanks a lot for the delicious vegetables and eggs! Steve and Liz were great hosts. We reccomend this place highly to anyone wishing to spend a peaceful relaxing vacation away from it all!! We WILL be back!!

Just as it was described. had a great time and will be going back again next year. Could not have been treated any better. Owners went out of there way to check on use to make sure we were happy. Great fishing , great kayaking and great cabin.

“Great Weekend”

Reviewed 18 Jun 2013

I must say that this cabin far exceeded our expectations. It was impeccably maintained inside and out, with nicely maintained grounds and the river flowing nearby. Electricity was provided by a generator, but we never bothered to use it as the propane powered lighting, fridge and stove were more than sufficient for our needs. It actually added to our enjoyment of our stay rather than take away from it. The outhouse was a similar story: walking a few steps outside to their lovely outhouse added to the charm of the experience. It was nicer and cleaner than most "normal" bathrooms and there was a nice shower and sink indoors as well. Steve was a great host and left personalized signs to get to the property. The only drawback was access, the final few miles are by a heavily rutted dirt road, but it was well worth the extra time once you got to the amazingly secluded cabin. We would go back in a heartbeat!

“peaceful retreat”

Reviewed 6 Oct 2012

I enjoyed my stay at the cabin. It was such a peaceful retreat fishing off the dock on the penobscot river. The cabin is very roomy and comfortable. The owner Steve Hall checked in to make sure everything was fine and his hospitality was outstanding. I would highly recommend a stay at the cabin if you are looking for a peaceful place to relax. The fishing is great, and plenty of wildlife abounds in the area for anyone that likes to take pictures. I am looking forward to returning next spring 2013 again. Charlie

“Great host and awesome cabin!”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2012

Need I say more than that comment? The owner was beyond accomodating! He provided a clean cabin with all the comforts of home! Although off the beaten path, this cabin was perfect for our hiking group. Baxter state Park was 50 minutes away! It was a beautiful setting and an escape from the busy world! Thank you so much!
