Description of the Mendocino vacation cottage rental
Ravenswood Cottage (formerly known as Fernwood Cottage) is a charming guest cottage set in a redwood meadow one mile from the Pacific, where you can rest and unwind in a serene and private setting. Do nothing or explore the magnificent Mendocino coast. Located 6 miles north of Fort Bragg - home of the Skunk train - and 15 miles north of Mendocino Village, an historic art colony with fine restaurants and art galleries. Two miles to MacKerricher State Park with its easy headlands walking trails, horseback riding, and other gorgeous Pacific beaches to walk and play on. Sleep to the sounds of silence, or occasionally, to the sound of the surf. Enjoy views of our huge redwood trees and gardens. (The "amenities" list on this site doesn't include "Forest Views" but we offer these in glorious color).

Our cottage makes a perfect artist or sabbatical retreat and can be made available monthly for a negotiated price that includes utilities and firewood, cable tv and WiFi. The only other house you'll see is the owners', but both are situated to allow for maximum privacy.

Fully equipped kitchen, double bed plus single couch and single futon. DVD, CD and VCR player. Original art and lots of good books. Fireplace (and oil heating, if needed). Sleeps 1-3 people. We provide the makings of a simple breakfast: coffee, tea, bread, butter, and jam.

November- May $110 per night. June through October $125 per night, 3 night $300. 2 night minimum.

Hosts Irene and Frank welcome your inquiries and will provide touring advice.

Small pets permitted but with cleaning deposit required.

We, an elderly couple, loved our peaceful month in the woods. I am disabled by a breathing problem but found good places to walk on beaches and in local parks. Found several excellent restaurants, including Cafe One, our favorite, serving only organic food and open for breakfast and lunch, We are both writers and spent part of each day writing. Enjoyed local galleries and the Mendocino Arts Center, where we saw an excellent Japanese inspired collection and a very good play. Our hosts could not have been better. Informative as needed but unintrusive. I am renewed in all spheres.

Very nice setting in the redwoods. Convenient to town and nearby beaches. Cabin was perfect and had all the amenities needed including wifi.

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday in this cozy cottage. We loved the wood stove and homey feel. A great place to relax, read and unwind.

My hosts couldn't have been nicer. It's such a gorgeous place -- blissfully quiet and off-the-beaten-track, but a short drive to the beach. Redwoods right out the back door. Also has quick access to Mendecino. Lots to do. Wish I'd stayed longer. Clean, neat, yet artful. Thoughtful touches abound. I hope to get back next year.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

We've had nothing but glowing responses from our guests. One wrote: "There are just so many things we loved about this cottage. The ART, the simple elegance of layout and furniture. The books. The surrounding redwoods... The tea and coffee we couldn't have done without. This is exactly the kind of experience that makes you want to move out of the city!"
