About Acapulco

If you're looking for Mexico's ultimate beach destination, you'll find it in Acapulco. Book Acapulco vacation rentals for groups or couples, and get ready to indulge in sunny days and colorful nightlife.

If you're looking for a seaside spot with warm weather year-round, Acapulco is it. If you want to avoid rain and storms, however, take note of the area's wet and dry seasons. Like the Eastern Pacific hurricane season, Acapulco's storm season runs from mid-May through late November. The wet season spans from June through October, when it isn't unusual for the area to receive 10 to 14 inches of rain in a single month. Humidity also tends to be high during the wet season.

To make the most of Acapulco's dry season, plan to visit from late November through mid-May. During this time, you'll typically find low humidity levels and warm temperatures.

Just a 30-minute drive from the city itself, Acapulco International Airport is the most convenient gateway to Acapulco. To get around town, save yourself the frustration of navigating through constant congestion and questionable road conditions by relying on a combination of taxis and buses. To save money on transit, opt for the city's comprehensive bus system, which will get you between most major destinations.

Taxis are also a relative bargain and will easily transport you from most Acapulco villas to nearly any destination around the city. Be sure to negotiate your price before embarking on your ride, though.

Part of planning a successful trip to Acapulco involves knowing which neighborhoods are best to visit. The Traditional Zone region sits to the west and encapsulates the city’s history and personality. Acapulco’s Golden Zone is perfect for outdoor activities and features a beautiful stretch of land along the beach. Pie de la Cuesta offers grand, scenic views of Acapulco. Villas for rent in this area can guarantee that you see the very best of the city. The zone most like the United States is Acapulco Diamante, which hosts several restaurants and resorts.

Things to Do

Acapulco's daytime activities center on the beach, and you can choose between private stretches of sand and busier beaches. Go to Playa Condesa, one of the area's most popular beaches, for people watching and easy access to watersports. Nearby, go to Playa Icacos for parasailing, waterskiing, and boating. For a quieter experience, head south of Acapulco to Barra Vieja, where you'll find a sandy oasis with horseback riding and sunbathing.

Once you've had your fill of the beach, explore the city itself. Acapulco's Zócalo is the center of town and hosts everything from historic buildings to top restaurants to street life. Tour the unique Our Lady of Solitude Cathedral, enjoy the local musicians, and indulge in some people watching before grabbing a bite at a nearby café. For a bigger taste of history, visit Acapulco's Fort of San Diego, a former Spanish stronghold. Here you can learn about the origins of Acapulco, enjoy views of the nearby bay, and marvel at the historic architecture before heading back into town for the evening.

There’s much to see and do if you’ve brought your kids along, too. Cici Acapulco Magico is a waterpark that boasts fun rides like slides and wave pools that children of all ages can enjoy. Magico Mundo Marino provides a marine-themed option for those who want an alternative to Cici Acapulco Magico. Its proximity to beaches makes it the perfect place for parents to takin in beautiful natural sights.

From discos to beach bars to nightclubs, Acapulco is known for its colorful nightlife. Dance until sunrise at clubs like Baby'O, which has hosted concerts and DJs since 1976. Head over to Palladium for great seaside views, ample dancing platforms, and regular fireworks shows. Go to Disco Beach for cool drinks and dancing right on the beach.

Community events take place all throughout the year in Acapulco, while some of the major annual festivals attract visitors year after year. In January, the Acapulco Fair welcomes children with its fun rides and games. A Carnival Fair in February gets extra-festive with a parade. In November, Day of the Dead celebrations give kids the opportunity to experience what Halloween is like in a different country.

Whether you're planning a couples' trip or a weekend with friends, Acapulco offers the ideal mix of lazy days and festive nights. Stay at Acapulco villas in the center of town or on the beach, and plan your Pacific getaway.
