About Puerto Vallarta

Once the “in” place for 1970s jet setters and honeymooners, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico is making a comeback and reestablishing itself as the chic, happening nightspot for the ultra-cool. A Puerto Vallarta vacation rental is a great way to enjoy your stay, as well as soak up the sun and explore the culture.

Things to Do

Puerto Vallarta offers more than just a bustling nightlife scene. It’s rich in history, art, and cultural opportunities. The Malecon boardwalk/paved path is in the city’s historic center. There are hotels and an amphitheater, as well as jewelry shops, restaurants, boutiques, and other tourist attractions along this mile-long stretch. While there, take some time to enjoy the whimsical sculptures that dot its length. Speaking of art, the Cuale Cultural Center is also worth checking out.

The Puerto Vallarta Municipal Market is in the heart of the city and offers a number of handicrafts, jewelry, leather workings, and traditional Mexican clothing like ponchos and hats. The aromas of the second floor bring most visitors up to sample some of the most delicious, and authentic food in the area. The Pueblo Viejo is a couple of blocks from the Municipal Market. There you’ll find souvenirs, jewelry, and clothing for reasonable prices.

Puerto Vallarta offers an eclectic mix of gourmet food options as well as traditional dishes. While some visitors indulge in the romantic atmosphere of dining on the beach, the many markets also offer take out that visitors looking for a quiet atmosphere could enjoy from their Puerto Vallarta vacation rentals. March brings Wine Fest, an excellent time to sample area wines. In May, the town celebrates Restaurant Week, where many of the eateries offer three-course meals for affordable prices.

Puerto Vallarta comes to life as the sun sets and the moon rises. With many restaurants offering live music and music streaming from public plazas, the night version of this town is very different from the sleepy seaside appearance it gives off during the day. Teatro Vallarta hosts ...
