Description from owner

A very private lake log cabin within 65 miles of the Twin Cities in the town of Luck, Wisconsin. The cabin sits on 10 acres of wooded property at the end of a tar road . Private dock, bikes for near by bike trail and pontoon included. Wrap around deck overlooks 200 acre lake with good pan fishing - northerns, bass and some walleyes. The beach is not suitable for swimming but swimming off the pontoon is great fun! Furnace heat is available, but a wood stove offers additional warmth and cozy atmosphere on a rainy damp day. A loft bedroom looks down upon the open living space with a bedroom and bath on the main floor. The walk out basement has a bedroom, bath plus additional activity and sleeping space. The friendly town of Luck offers a unique golf course, good restaurants, clubs, library and historical museum within one to two miles of the cabin. Drive up and take a look at this Little Butternut Lake area and you will be pleasantly surprised to find a north woods cabin with privacy this close to the Twin City area. During the Winter months there are many good snowmobile trails including the Gandy Dancer near the cabin. We supply several bikes in various sizes to use on the near-by trails. Rental agreement is required and you must be at least 25 years old to apply.

( Inside the cabin is smoke free ) Friday,Saturday,Sunday and Holidays will be $10.00 /night more than Monday ,Tuesday Wednesday & Thursday. Starting November 1st. to May 1 st. of the following year the rates will change to 148.00 / night. to cover heating and plowing . Thanks for inquiring ! Bill

“The Cross Grain Lodge--Amazing”

Reviewed 22 Jan 2017

We stayed in Luck at the Cross Grain Lodge. We enjoyed everything they had to offer. The fish seemed to always be biting while we were there. The many amenities are a plus we appreciated the cleanliness and hospital reception by Bill and Lois!

“Annual visitor”

Reviewed 17 Jan 2017

Bill and Louis were so friendly as always. Bill was there waiting and had the cabin all ready to go. Fire was goin in the wood stove and donuts on the table. We saw a ton of wildlife while we were there. Groups of 20+ turkeys came to feed, 6-8 deer were seen, a variety of birds, fat rabbits, and squirrels. We ventured out to some of the local towns to take in some of the local antique shops. Sledding down the big hill on the driveway was a treat for my lil one. Just a great get away. Quiet and homey. We love it and plan on returning a couple more times this year. Tons of ice shanties could be seen out on the lake. Looking forward to takin the pontoon out in the summer.

Owner's reply: Thank you Jane for the kind review and for taking the time to share your opinion.Thank you for staying at CROSS GRAIN LODGE and we will look foreword to seeing you again.

“Wish our stay was longer”

Reviewed 1 Jul 2016

Hosts were fantastic and accommodating. The home is charming and had everything we needed. The location was remote, yet close enough to town (either by bike or short drive), where there is a great grocery store, butcher shop, restaurants, etc. I wish we had rented the cabin for at least another day or two. So relaxing....I'd highly recommend. The only minus was the iron in the water that prevented us from doing laundry, but not a big deal.

“Cozy Cabin”

Reviewed 23 May 2015

My husband, my father and I just stayed for a long weekend in this cozy cabin. We had a a great time, had great luck fishing on the lake and really enjoyed the wildlife. There are bird feeders off of the deck and we loved the bird watching! The view is awesome, the cabin is beautiful and Bill, the owner was very helpful. There is a grocery store extremely close. The cabin was furnished with everything we could have needed. The wood burning stove kept us cozy on a couple of rainy nights. It was perfect. Thanks again Bill for everything, you've got a wonderful place! Janelle

Owner's reply: Thanks Janelle ! The cabin looked great when we got here for Memorial Day . I enjoyed meeting all of you and hope you have a great Summer ! Sincerely Bill

“Magical cottage on Little Butternut Lake”

Reviewed 2 Jan 2015

This lovely log cabin (really more of a home than a cabin) was everything we hoped for in a peaceful family holiday retreat to the woods. The owner, Bill, was a thoughtful and kind but non-intrusive host. Everything was perfectly clean, with a well-stocked and organized kitchen, extra blankets, and even a huge two-story tree for Christmas. Decorations were cute and tasteful without being artificially cutsey, with many handmade mementos and photos of the family, which made us feel like we were visiting old family friends. The home is very comfortable and with the two-story loft and huge windows feels airy and spacious. There were several small side rooms and spaces to spread out and have some private time, as well as a cozy living and dining room with wood stove (in addition to central heat), with plenty of games, movies (of the family variety), TV channels, and CD player. No wifi, no phone service (yay!). The house itself is on the end of a dead-end road so although it is close to town and other civilization, it feels totally secluded on the property. You can't see any of the other houses on the lake. There is a really nice outdoor porch facing the lake -- we enjoyed it even in winter. Plenty of hiking trails around (and snowmobile trails which we did not use). There is a little town (Luck) only a few miles down the road with a decent full grocery store, a natural food coop (look for the locally harvested wild rice!), a couple of taverns, and other services. We saw wild turkeys, deer, tons of birds, and lots of animal tracks on the lake. Several people out ice fishing, too. We highly recommend this place for a winter or summer retreat. We can't wait for the opportunity to return. Thanks Bill and Lois!

Owner's reply: Daniel : Thank you for taking the time to compose such a nice and review. It was a pleasure meeting you your sister and Kay. Lois and I wish that 2015 will be a good year for you,and will maybe see you again some time. Sincerely Bill & Lois

“Comfortable and homey”

Reviewed 24 Sep 2014

You will find everything you need and more at this quaint cabin. The kitchen is well stocked, there are lap blankets on the couches, plenty of games and movies and plenty of firewood to keep the woodstove going. The home has plenty of birds that visit thanks to the bird feeders and you may even see wild turkeys in the morning. There is a small pontoon you can use on the lake, bikes in the garage if you want to go on the local trails, and the surrounding towns have all you need and plenty to do. Close enough to the cities to make an easy drive but with an utlra quiet location at the end of the road, you have complete privacy. The leaves were just starting to turn and it was a beautiful view looking across the lake. Bill and Lois will make sure you feel welcome and know everything you need to make your trip a success! Had a very nice time and hope to return soon.
