We stayed at the lake house for a week and thought it was great. My husband and I had our extended families visit and everyone had only great things to say about the house. We had ages infant to 65 and everyone had a blast. The lake and beach were fun to swim in and we took the kayak and paddle boat for a few trips. We also fished off the dock most days. The house was clean and comfortable, easily sleeping 9 adults and 3 kids. We spent many hours out on the screen porch and enjoyed cooking meals in the kitchen. We very much appreciated the ample outdoor seating and the small boat house. Even the neighbors (and their dogs) were very friendly. The lake itself was 150 acres and had a decent amount of boat traffic on it, mostly pontoons and small fishing boats. The area was quiet and calming, good for a relaxing getaway. Additionally, we went to South Haven a few times, which is about a 25 minute drive from the house itself. South Haven has everything you need and some good local restaurants. We enjoyed walking through town and down by the pier. There is a large public beach on Lake Michigan with easy access in South Haven. One drawback to this lake house is that lack of air conditioning. We were lucky to get decent temperatures and nights with temperatures in the sixties, but it would have been difficult to stay here in hotter weather. As it was, the two smaller rooms were stifling, even with fans, much of the day. As it was, most of us were outside during the day doing various activities and we all would recommend this house for a quiet getaway.
“An Amazing time”
We rented this house for our wedding weekend. My wife and I have a spread out family, most of my family is from Montague, but my wife's parents were from MN, and here grand parents were from TX. We rented the house so her parents would have a good place to call home for the week. Great views of lake MI, very private setting. The cottage has a very cottage feel. Lots of Space as well.
Owner's reply: We could not explain our Splendorous Retreat more succinctly than you! Thank-you. Welcome back anytime, Jeff on behalf of our Family.
“Midway Bluff House”
When arrived at our beach home we were thrilled with the accommodations. The kitchen was well stocked with all kinds of pots, pans, cooking utensils, crock pot, mixer, and even spices! We had 11 people ranging in age from 71 to 5 with plenty of room. The three living areas on each floor provided places for all age groups to gather. The little children took the 3rd floor space with a TV, which we hooked our WIii up to so they had games and access to Netflix through wireless internet. The second floor is where the teenagers hung out . Someone brought an XBox for that level and on rainy days we could watch movies through Netflix. The adlults had the downstairs to play cards, games and visit. The kids loved it! The beach was beautiful with nice sand and some big waves. We went into St. Joseph and had fun checking out the stores, the silver beach park, carousel, and children's museum. Lot's of photo opportunities. The kids loved the Silver Beach Pizza and playing in the fountains. Overall we had a fantastic time and a great family reunion. We hope to go back again. My daughter cried at the end of the week because it was time to head home. We went on the coolest July on record so the house made it work when it rained or was a little too cool to go swimming. I would recommend this wonderful home.
“Great view, Great beds”
Great view, great beds, very comfortable. Yes, aging furniture but comfortable. Super-abundance of blankets and comforters. Very well equipped kitchen with lots of room for multiple cooks. We'll come back in two years for our annual friends' gathering. Bathrooms very adequate but should be cleaner on arrival.
Owner's reply: Jon; Thanks for your comments. we love sharing our LAKE MICHIGAN home with folks who appreciate it as much as we do. Sorry, for your Bathroom disappointment. We have a specific list for cleaning. We will find out how that was missed. Welcome back!
“Beautiful Home! Spectacular view of Lake Michigan!”
My husband Norm looked for months in the summer of 2011 for a special place to take me for a nice vacation. We always enjoyed the cabins along Lake Huron but we were never really in love with the beach as much as Lake Michigan. After all the searches he came across the property in Montague and contacted Jeff ( owner). Jeff was very pleasant and easy to deal with so my husband rented out the property. I thought this place was some rinky dink old cabin or something like we had rented in the past. Well I was wrong, we get there and I couldn't believe my eyes! HUGE BEAUTIFUL home footsteps from the beach that we LOVE! We had a WONDERFUL time to say the least!!!!!! The home has a wonderful kitchen so we made all meals and enjoyed them on the large deck over looking the lake. Of course we swam and floated on rafts on mostly private beach. Then to top the night off we stoked up a nice bon fire ON THE BEACH! My husband I just returned from our 2nd trip last weekend and WILL be doing this for years to come! Thank you Jeff! Your home is BEAUTIFUL! Norman and Misty Druce
Owner's reply: Thank-you, Misty: We love to share our home with wonderful folks like you two, jeff
“Great location, great beach, house is fine”
Had a group of four couples staying at the house. The layout was good, with four bedrooms, though the beds aren't the most comfortable, they're ok for a week. The seller is the view from the outdoor deck, where we enjoyed sunsets, lake views, and almost all of our meals in the fresh air. Note - cell phone reception here is spotty at best - you'll likely need to go to town to make calls. And there's one internet router in a downstairs bedroom, but it doesn't support wifi. So internet activity is a one-at-a-time, plug-in affair. I made a reco to the owner to upgrade to a wifi router, which he said he'd consider. Lastly, our group loves to cook, and the kitchen gets a B for that -- it's a bit tight on space, but you'll have a decent selection of pots and pans. The burners on the stove are hit and miss - only a couple of them get really hot. A new stove would be a good upgrade for those looking to make big family dinners while on vacation. If you're a smaller group, or plan to eat out a lot, it's fine. Lastly - the owner is a really nice guy who's helpful if you have any questions or suggestions.
Owner's reply: Thanks, Brian, for the suggestions. Research tells us we need a "N" Router. and often the burners become unseated as we clean them every week. We will check heat level.
We had a great time. Your home was close to the Lake and very nicely set up for a larger family.Being right on the Lake one could assume there would not be a need for air-conditioning, BUT, this July was noted as unusually hot, and an air conditioning unit was necessary. With windows open, the public park within close proximity was too noisy at night, but there were plenty of fans to drowned out the noise. Overall it was a very nice stay and very affordable.
House is not fancy but good bang for the buck for our party (10 people, including 2 grandmothers, 1 baby, 4 & 9-year-olds). Nice location-< 1 mile from Lake MI & 10 minutes to downtown Whitehall. Only two negatives worth mentioning: 1): "master" queen mattress is VERY firm, and 2) FYI light sleepers: house is right on what for the area would have to be considered a main road. Good news is there was little traffic after dark, however cars which do come by are very noticeable, particularly in the front (2 twins) bedroom. Nice, responsive owners.
Owner's reply: Thank-you Mr. Spiedel correction on "One Mile from Lake Mi." 7204 House is approx. 300 yards (a short par 4) via path directly over the Dune to Nationally Awarded LAKE MICHIGAN Beach. Also,( main) Lau Rd. is about Qtr. mile long 10MPH Road which dead-ends at the LAKE! Note: Correction will be made on all Aerial Maps showing the (small) Medberry Park on the White Lake Channel on the wrong side of Lifeguard Rd. There is a 4 Acre unused DNR Buffer Zone posted NO TRESPASSING South of the 2 McMansions and our 7204 Lifeguard Rd.home.
We had a great time at this house there were 10 of us and we all had our own space. The house was very clean and had almost every thing except a TV in the livingroom.
Owner's reply: if only someone would have told us we could have corrected it immediately. Appreciate that they acknowledged the cleanliness and privacy.
Great location very close to beach. House very nice on inside and plenty of room for 4 adults 5 children. Would have been nice to have beach towels/toys/chairs available for use.

My whole family thanks you for providing a clean and inviting home to share on our first ever Michigan family vacation. The house was exactly as promised and just a short dune walk to the lake. We spent many nights on the deck and viewed the sunset along with the wonderful lake breezes. The grandchildren collected acorns and pine cones by the dozens as remembrances and all of us loved the location. Many thanks and we hope to come back soon!
