The main building is arranged on two floors:
Ground floor: on the ground floor a very large space, which once housed the stable, has maintained its original size. Now a part of it constitutes the living room another part the dining room. They were not separated in order to maintain unaltered the original breadth of the room and the atmosphere given by a solid rustic arch dividing it in two. Two entrances (one from the swimming pool side and the other from the parking side) give access to it. This large space is adjacent to the kitchen and to a double bedroom with en suite shower room and a staircase leading to the upper floor.
Upper floor: at the top of the staircase there is one double bedroom with en suite shower room on the right and on the left a double bedroom communicating with a room with two bunk beds which share a bathroom. Further the staircase will lead you to a small sitting room provided with a rustic fireplace and furnished with a sofa. Beside this room there is a twin bedroom with en suite shower room.
The barn has been transformed into a playroom:
Once used as a hay and straw shelter, the barn was modified and equipped in a such way to create a wide and suitable place where the guests could play and relax. A ping-pong and equipment are available, and comfortable sitting places to follow from above the game have been drawn from existing structures. The area adjacent to the side closer to the house is covered by a pergola suitable to enjoy al fresco meals.
The swimming pool:
The pool was built on the side of the Granaio Pisano area where the slope of the hill rendered it possible. Its surface measures 14 m long and 3.5 m wide and it is framed by peculiar stones of the region. More externally a rustic wooden base surrounds the pool equipped with cushions or deck chairs.
Set in a valley of its own
Granaio Pisano is a farmhouse very privately set in a valley of its own. A long dirt track of 500 m leads to a mid level position overlooking the valley where the house is located. The property is composed by the main house with 5 bedrooms and 4 en suite bathrooms, the former barn which now has become a play area, and the swimming pool.
The countryside around the building is typical of the lower valley of the Arno river (which crosses Florence and Pisa and flows a few kilometers far from here): surrounding hillocks, covered with woods and with olive tree cultivation, slope gently down to the plain where corn, barley, maize and sunflower are grown. The property is within easy reach of the most important art-towns of Tuscany: 40 km far from Pisa, 48 km from Florence, 50 km from Lucca and 70 km from Siena. Also smaller medieval towns such as San Gimignano (40 km), San Miniato (20 km), Vinci (birthplace of Leonardo, 45 km) and Volterra (60 km) are worth being visited. The sandy beaches of the Tirrenia coast are approx. 45 km distant. These beaches are rather popular, if someone wishes a more selected area (and less cheap beaches) we recommend those of the Versilia region going from Viareggio to Massa Carrara (around 80 up to 90 km from here).
Your daily shopping can be done in Marti (2 km), where there is also a bar and restaurant. A tobacco shop is 500 metres distant. Montopoli Val d'Arno (4 km) has a larger supermarket and train station with connections to Florence, Pisa and Livorno. More frequently trains stop at the Pontedera railway station (10 km). The main road which connects Florence with Pisa and Livorno is approx. 3 km away and will soon bring you to the famous art-filled cities or to the coast.
Bathing is also possible in the cooler months: a 30 minutes' drive will bring you to the tiny spa town of Cascianca Terme. Those looking for a wellness break will enjoy the many facilities on offer in Casciana: thermal baths, fango, cosmetic and therapeutic treatments, acupuncture, solarium, massage, hydromassage and sauna.
Additional amenities: Airport distance:Pisa 38 km Florence 45 Rome 330 km, DVD (with slot memory cards), Dog welcome, Outdoor dining table for 12 people, Ping-pong table with rackets and balls, Pool: 3.5 x 14m, Portable CD-stereo, Private Chef, Stove with oven, TV (with Italian Sky satellite)
