The neighborhood is friendly, safe, and looks like it came right off the set of Andy's show. It is a marvelous place to rest, read, and regroup your spirit with no phone or doorbell to break the serenity. Most cells work there and internet for your laptop is free throughout main street ,day or night. Lots of GOOD local restaurants are a short walk or drive away and many free activities abound and others are ongoing with low admission price (such as the 3.00 movie downtown, live music several places around, squad car tours, wagon rides through downtown, etc etc. You will Lovvvvve this place....it is a step back in time when life was simpler, safer, and full of nice people who made time to visit as they passed on the street or in the stores. Everyone who goes wants to come back again and share it with others.... we bet you will as well.....
We have had honeymooners, retirees, and single Andy fans who want the quiet, privacy, and safety of a house within walking distance of so much they wish to see. The motels are on the outskirts of town and the two B&B's are far more expensive than renting our entire little place.
You will be glad you investigated this...it will just make your trip to Mayberry so enjoyable and 'believable' on what the show was all about!

You can eat at Barney's, the Blue Bird Cafe, Leon's, Snappy Lunch, get a haircut at Floyd's, enjoy live music at several designated places and others where folks just stop and start to play just for pure pleasure. There is a terrific museum with four floors taking you through Surry County history, an active wedding 'package' where you can indeed tie the knot, the jail and courthouse famous from the set, the 3.00 movie theater downtown, the state of the art outdoor theater, the Andy Griffith playhouse, his childhood home, squad car rides, wagon rides through downtown, lots of interesting shops to browse, a short ride to the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, Mabrey's Mill, Pilot Mountain (town) and Pilot Mountain State Park, several wineries in the area, the springs at the onetime internationally known White Sulphur Springs Hotel (now gone) where famous people all over the world came to spend their summers and bathe in the healing waters (take your own jug and help yourself at no charge at the spring).
There is a state of the art hospital, many old mills now turned condo, million dollar homes as well as working class mill homes such as ours that are close to town where the people walked to work every day for generations until the mills and furniture factories closed some years back .
Our little place is the only one in town available and also fully furnished for short term lease to the right persons who will enjoy it and treat it like the treasure it truly is.
Reviews for this vacation cottage rental in Mount Airy, North Carolina
What a cozy little getaway!
March 4, 2011
The open kitchen/dining/living area coupled with the cozy, whimsical decor make this a perfect spot for a family trip. The bar is excellent for buffet style meals or drinks and heavy hors d'oeuvres. Plenty of space to gather for conversation, but enough room in the rest of the house that you can have a little privacy. Close enough to downtown, restaurants, shopping, churches that getting around is easy, but out of the way enough to enjoy a little quiet. Great street for walking; good parking. Nice, large bathroom and convenient laundry area. I will definitely stay again the next time I visit the area!

Home away from home
February 9, 2011
I was raised in Mount Airy many years ago and although most of my family is gone now, I still visit occasionally to see old friends or who's left of family - or for reunions or funerals. This is a great little house for those visits and sooooooo much better than a motel with the standard nondescript pictures and furnishings. This place is a mini art gallery. It's clean, comfortable, colorful, most unusual - and QUIET!!! Staying there is truly like "a home away from home" since you're not confined to one room like a motel and you can actually prepare your own meals there if you choose to do so - I usually at least do breakfast there. You can sleep as late as you want without worrying about someone wanting to come in to make up your room. I've stayed there at least three times already and it's definitely my first choice for accommodations whenever I plan to visit Mount Airy.

oh, what a darlin' place!

I could tell it would be cute by the photos but in being there it was just the most darlin' place ever...and the street was quiet, neighbors out and about waving when they saw me, and just a short walk to actual town and whatever I wanted to eat, see, or do. I am a writer so also had uninterruped time to do my work too. I think this town and little house stole my heart...I must go back soon!

Loved it....hated to leave!

Not many times does a place meet your expectations but this did...it is so comfortable, so cute and artsy, so clean, and so very close to almost everything we wanted to see. The folks are friendly and so helpful that by the time we left we felt we had some new friends. A lot of what we enjoyed was totally free and anything requiring a ticket was also very reasonable. We want to return and enjoy fall and all the colors in the mountains. This was such a relaxing time away and just almost magical.....no push, shove, road rage, or anything like that anywhere....it was just like walking into the Andy show of so many years ago. Eat at Snappy for a porkchop sandwich, Leon's for a great burger, and Barnsey's for the 'special' of the day and then at night go to the 308 Bistro inside the Winery and have a fantastic meal with the Sickmiller family. Then away from downtown a bit, go to the Dairy bar on Lebanon for a phenomenal milk shake and hot dog......gooooooood! but they close at 2:00. You will be so glad you did this....for yourself, for your stressed body, and for your restored faith in the goodness of people and a wonderful small town. tell them Milo and Cece sent you....they will surely see us again as soon as we can slow down our real world and get there to unwind!
We rented this adorable little 'cottage' for our parents as a surprise golden wedding anniversary present since they are both fans of the Andy Griffith show of Mayberry fame. They had such a good time and reported that getting to stay in that house and walk around town and talk with neighbors was just about like being able to walk into the show itself. This is a memory they will always cherish and we children feel the price was a bargain too.....they said it was so clean and comfortable and homey and they enjoyed being able to keep food handy and have snacks or a meal since both are diabetic. I think they ate and rocked on the front porch a lot too.
It was a real find...and we thank you for having it on line to see and read about!

With the mild winter we were able to wander all over Mayberry in just our sweaters and especially enjoyed being at 'Cousin Emma's Cottage' for several days to rest, relax, and get the feel of downtown Mount Airy only a couple of blocks away. Hopefully we can go back this summer and take another couple with us to enjoy the same house. Ed and Karen Goins ,Feb. 2012 We are craving another pork chop sandwich from Snappy Lunch!
We had a wonderful two days there and enjoyed it so much...could not get over how noticeable the quiet was with no computer, phone, doorbell....we felt ourselves unwinding like a kite. Had good food, did the car tour, Andy museum, his house, courthouse, wagon ride, and rode up on the parkway which was all so worthwhile. We want to make this an annual event and surely recommend this to anyone who wants to leave the rat race and return to 'yester year's healing charm.'
Just came back from five glorious days there...it wasn't as cool as we'd hoped it would be but heck, it has been a very hot summer everywhere. This place is so comfortable, clean, and so enjoyable....have booked it again for Labor Day week end. We walked almost everywhere, it is right in the heart of town and yet so quiet and relaxing...and the neighbors acted like we were long returning friends!
You should go! It is also a very acceptable price.

What a "darlin'" little place....we loved it! It was spotless, good beds, what ever we needed to cook our own breakfast after going to Lowe's Foods, interesting artwork throughout- we talked the owner into selling us two pieces.
