The Best Rental in Maine

March 14, 2016

My husband and I have rented the Donovan's house for almost 20 years. It is perfect for us - big enough for children and friends to join us, small enough to feel we have our own private retreat right on the Atlantic. The views are unparalleled. The fixtures and appliances are modern and convenient. The furnishings accommodate hot summer days and cool Maine nights. The owners are responsive and responsible - in fact, they've become great friends of ours. If you like vacationing in a place that feels like a best-kept, clean, lovely and charming home, this is the place. If you like communing with the ocean, it's 20 feet away. If you like a residence that is peaceful and quiet, but is but 20 minutes drive to good restaurants, book stores, breathtaking coastal parks, and the most authentic bustling lobster harbors, this is it. Don't miss the chance.

Owner's reply:

Thanks to both of you for this heavenly review. Today was a glorious sunny day in Maine, one of many we will be lucky to experience. And, as you say, others could enjoy the sunny days, cool nights, the sunsets, the sights and sounds of the ocean in August and September too, if they so choose to rent our place. Craig and I feel privileged to be considered your friends. It has been a great pleasure for Craig and for me to have you experience delight in our home.

Our Favorite Place!

January 31, 2016

We have rented the Donovan house for more than 10 summers and would still be coming back except for health issues. The house is bright and cheerful, immaculate and equipped with everything you could want to have a fabulous Maine vacation. Top of the line appliances, even a clothesline if you like the smell of fresh laundry. The trees are just right to perfectly frame beautiful sunsets which you can enjoy from the large lawn or well furnished deck. The sound of the surf is a nighttime treat. Have breakfast on the deck and you can enjoy the lobster boats, cormorants and ducks! You are approx. 1/2 mile walk to a white sandy beach and just a bit further to the best cinnamon buns in the world! To top it off, the Donovans are wonderful and caring owners.

Owner's reply:

We thank you for your heartfelt review of our home and of us, the owners. We know you are sorry that, this year, you are not able to return. Our home will miss you. We started to think of your children and grandchildren as if they were our own and pictured how they might be enjoying themselves at the lovely gatherings you always prepared for them. And, we also know that you found a way to relax as well as a loving couple, not just to cook and barbecue up a storm for your beloved family.

Owner Supplied Testimonials
Guestbook

Due to illness, our full-month August renters of the last 10+ years cannot return but have written that some of their happiest life memories are of The Donovan House. They say that their whole family has shared the pleasure of our beautiful home.

Our long time September renter raves that she has had three properties, one in New York, one in Boston and one in Florida but (and I quote), *GIVE ME PEMAQUID TRAIL ANY DAY!!!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are the most fun things to do at your vacation rental?
A: We (Frances and Craig) get great pleasure looking out at our * GLORIOUS FRENCH CROISSANT ROCKY( VARYING TIDE ) VIEW * from our spectacular upstairs but also from every room in our house. In our Cape renovation, we were told to maximize our view and we did so. My husband and I love the Monday (5 to 7 p.m.) free outdoor summer concerts on the grounds of nearby King Ro Market in quaint Round Pond. Walks along our own Pemaquid Trail road are a constant pleasure. Of course, these recent favorites for us are due to the fact that we have already experienced the many splendid vacation highlights, Pemaquid Point rocky coast, on-site Restaurant and Lighthouse, The Fort, Shaws Restaurant and The Harbor Room for fresh seafood, the Cupboard Cafe and Reillys for fantastic local groceries. The Hardy Boat was a special treat for us for site seeing cruises to photograph Maine puffins, seals and even whales. All visitors enjoy sun bathing at Pemaquid Beach with its fine white sand. The lovely town of Damariscotta has a variety of shops and galleries, a high quality Health Food Store and so many other wonderful amenities. Yours to enjoy!
