The Laughing Gull - Oceanfront Cottage
|Per night||$165 - $195|
|Per week||$898 - $1,550|
Leave the city behind and step into this one-of-a-kind authentic ocean-front cottage. On the inside of this cozy cottage, you'll fall in love with the painted, wide plank floors, bookshelves, stone fireplace, and original paned windows. On the outside, the sites and sounds of the bold Maine coast, just steps away, will take your breath away. Sit on the porch in one of the Adirondack chairs and watch lobster boats pulling their traps, while sipping your morning cup of coffee. In the evening, witness gorgeous sunsets from the back lawn while enjoying a glass of wine. On a foggy day (you're bound to have one), we suggest curling up by the fireplace with a good book or taking advantage of modern-day conveniences such as DVD player with a movie library, high-speed internet, Apple TV, and even WiFi.

Authentic Maine Experience

Really enjoyed our stay at the rustic Laughing Gull. It is cozy but there were just the two of us and our dog so we felt we had plenty of room for our needs. We enjoyed sitting outside and watching the lobster boats and the John's Bay tides and sunsets were terrific. Tom and Laurie answered any questions quickly and made sure our stay was enjoyable.

Rustic Ocean Setting
July 27, 2012
This rustic cabin on the water is the perfect setting to relax and unwind. No matter what the weather there is always something to enjoy, from sunny warm days, to beautiful sunsets to a pounding surf during a storm. Located on a quiet dead end street you are have peace and tranquiity to read or just watch the lobster boats. The cottage allows you to prepare great meals or stop by one of the fine restaurants on the peninsula. 2-1/2 miles away is Shaw's Lobster Pound where you can get lobsters and clams ,have them cooked there and bring them back to the cottage for a feast on the ocean. The cotttage has 2 bedrooms, one bath, kitchen, living room, dining area, loft and porch. It also has a detached carriage house for storage which has 2 bikes and fire wood.
Paradise on the Coast of Maine!
June 25, 2012
Spent the most perfect week at the Laughing Gull...it is truly paradise on the Coast of Maine! This comfortable, charming Maine cottage has everything you need and more. Its rustic simplicity is the very best part...and it is well located, the perfect home base from which to take day trips. Close to several delectable restaurants and adorable shops. The views from the lovely log home are absolutely breathtaking - you will LOVE this cottage in any weather!! It rained pretty much our entire week, and the gorgeous stone fireplace chased the chill and dampness away. Thanks for allowing us to share your beautiful cottage by the sea...

Authentic Maine Coast experience

The Laughing Gull is a delightful little cottage - smaller than I gathered from the number it can sleep, but cozy with all the necessities and several extras (working fireplace, wireless internet, porch looking out over water, access to the shed with lawn chairs and a place to tuck our bikes.) For me the decor was particularly pleasing - random/eclectic mix of old bits of both cultured history and camp living in Maine. Very little of the kitchy items that many owners seem to think renters want. This trip was the perfect return to my childhood visits to Pemaquid Point when we chose very simple activities, not too much fuss over anything, and lots of comfort and relaxation. With the lighthouse, the beach, the Fort and New Harbor (Shaw's, groceries and Ice Cream) all within a stone's throw, we felt no need to venture too far. If I could change a few things... 1)I would like a little more privacy from the road. The larger part of the yard is right on the street, but it's such a quiet road, and we were near the end of the dead end, so it wasn't a major issue. Our kids knew to watch for cars, but we felt on display when we played out front. Of course, we preferred to be on the ocean side of the cabin which felt very private. 2) I tend to get fancy in the kitchen, but there's very little working space - not a problem for most people on vacation! 3) The ladder to the loft is safe and functional enough, but it's awkward. My brother spent his time there designing a better system - we'll have to see if the owners would barter a few nights for a fix-it job! But those aside, we're planning on making this a regular spot for our vacations. Too lovely to pass up!
