Comfortably and tastefully furnished, lovingly maintained, and sparkling clean. Amenities include washer and dryer, fully equipped kitchen, wireless Internet, cable TV/DVD, phone, visible flame gas log heating stove.

Located in New Harbor, one of Maine's most picturesque fishing villages and romantic vacation spots. Off the beaten path on a private road of exclusive homes. Spectacular views of islands, lighthouses, birds of all kinds, lobstermen hauling their catch just yards from your private deck.

As soon as you start pulling into the driveway, you'll be delighted with our breathtaking view. It becomes even more expansive from the large front deck and from the kitchen, dining, and living areas.

The master bedroom has a queen bed. The second bedroom has twins. Both are comfy, light and airy, freshly painted, and have plenty of storage. The tiled bath has tub and shower. Fresh, clean towels and linens, plenty of freshly laundered blankets, mattress pads, and spreads are all provided and will be made up ready for you.

Watch the lobster boats and constantly changing surf just yards away. A birdwatcher's delight! Hike along the rocks from your private access; walk to village, shops, galleries, and working harbor. Harborside dining, a lovely sandy beach, Pemaquid Lighthouse, historic sights, Monhegan Island ferry, sightseeing and excursion boats all right here in New Harbor. An artist's and photographer's Paradise! July and August are high season, but don't overlook the serene beauty of spring and fall when attractions are open, prices are lower, and the scenery is fabulous.

On the coffee table you'll find our book about our favorite things to do while staying at Suite Thyme Carriage House. Be aware, though, that you may find it difficult tearing yourself away from the property!

We accept no smokers and no pets.

By the way, Marilyn is a musician (thus, Suite) and John is a retired spice and seasoning manufacturer (thus, Thyme).

The VERY Best!

If you love rocky ocean shores, the sounds of waves crashing, Adirondack chairs, privacy, immaculately clean surroundings in EVERY way, perfect amenities, comfy furniture and beds, great TV, WiFi, and more than I can will love Suite Thyme. It was worth every mile of driving from the middle of Iowa for this week in heaven in New Harbor, Maine. Marilyn and John are perfect hosts...attending to every need but never intrusive. They have a real sense of each and every little thing that would be appreciated by their guests....of all ages. Right down to the steps going up to the carriage house. We are in our 70's and stairs aren't always easy for me....but these are wonderful. There are sturdy, a comfortable rise and there are nice railings to make it easy. And, it is worth going up! We enjoyed the very accurate notebooks that provided helpful information about restaurants and other kinds of entertainment in the area. We are so in love with this spot that we spent lots of time in the Adirondack chairs reading, watching the lobster fishermen out at their traps, listening to the waves crash on the rocks, or just staring at the expanse of water as it changed colors. Fresh lobster close by at reasonable prices, lovely art work and souvenirs, wonderful Pemaquid Lighthouse Park, a very good grocery right in the village, lovely walking areas, games and books for indoors days....are some of our favorite things about coming to Suite Thyme. If you have the opportunity to be the guests of Marilyn and John in this lovely place, DO IT. We feel it will be one of your favorite places too.

Beautiful cottage, beautiful views--all the comforsts of home. The nicest place we have EVER rented. Marilyn and John have thought of all the comforts of home. Close to Pemaquid Point, the charming town of Darmiscotta and Shaws Lobster Wharf right around the corner! Can't wait to go back.

The advertisement caught our eye, but as soon as we turned into the driveway, Suite Thyme grabbed our hearts. What a breathtaking spot, and for two whole weeks it was all ours! It was exactly as described and more. We like to travel about during our vacations, and coming back to Suite Thyme at the end of each day was like coming home. Glorious sunrises encouraged us to start each day early. The soothing waves invited us to just hang out and not want to leave the property. Watching the lobstermen, the Hardy Boat cruises go by, hiking on the rocks, and cooking our own meals soon replaced our wanderlust. John and Marilyn's personal little guide book helped us plan our activities and day trips. What a nice touch! Best vacation spot in Maine!

From the moment we came in the driveway and saw the expanse of ocean, stepped from the car and heard the crashing waves and entered an immaculate carriage house we knew we were in the right place! Wow! This is a beautiful place. We came quite exhausted from busy days and were looking for a restful place for quiet retreat. We also knew our spirits are nourished by natural sights and sounds and we needed that. We found all of that and more at Suite Thyme! Marilyn and John have provided everything that you could possibly need in a comfortable, delightfully decorated, modern, exceptionally clean, cozy carriage house. Every little convenience has been thought of! We kept marveling at that! And, everything works beautifully..from the marvelously functioning wireless internet to a great coffee pot! Within walking distance of the carriage house are beautiful places to explore and these caring owners have left a helpful book to suggest sites to visit, including restaurants and other local attractions. New Harbor is a delightful town. We kept saying that we were going to visit other nearby places but we never really wanted to leave New Harbor and Suite Thyme. Warning! One week was NOT enough! It went by too quickly and we are going to have to stay longer next time. It was just too hard pulling out of the driveway on Saturday morning and watching that rocky shore disappear from sight! We can't wait to come back!

A truly wonderful vacation
5 of 5
Over the past fifteen years we have traveled to a different place twice each year for vacation. This was the absolute best of them all! The house (impeccable and well-equipped), the location, the view, the local area and restaurants, and the owners, John and Marilyn, together made it possible for us to enjoy the perfect vacation--to unwind, relax, and have a wonderful time.

Better Than a 5-Star Hotel

My husband and I booked our Maine vacation nearly a year before our arrival date and counted the days off the calendar as we looked forward to our first trip to the east coast in over 30 years...we were not disappointed. Everything was as described in the listing...the cottage, the location, and the view were PERFECT! Not only was the cottage well stocked with absolutely everything we needed, but it was the first rental we didn't have to clean before we even smelled clean.

The living quarters are on the top floor, which provides the best view of the ocean, just a few steps away. Don't miss the sunrise, or having that first cup of coffee on the cottage deck. It is absolutely the best part of the day! We loved watching the lobstermen from the rocks as they pulled their traps on a calm day and the waves crashing against the rocks when the ocean was rough.

Marilyn and John have thought of everything. On the counter near the phone were two binders of information about the area and about everything we needed to know about the cottage. It included emergency phone numbers and details about everything from trash pick-up to the whole-house generator that comes on automatically if power is lost during a storm etc. On the coffee table were directions for operating the remotes for the TV, DVR, Stereo, and gas fireplace.

The Cupboard Cafe was the place to go for breakfast...the omelets and sticky buns were to die for. Shaws Lobster Wharf (where scenes from "Message in a Bottle" were filmed) have the best fried clams in the area and is so close you could walk there. Moody's Diner and Deb's Diner were also among our favorite places to eat at VERY reasonable prices.

We plan to make a vacation at Suite Thyme Cottage a yearly tradition and have already booked a two-week stay for next fall. A shopping trip to LL Bean is on the agenda for next year along with lots of other attractions we just didn't have enough time for during our first stay.

Thank you Marilyn and John for the perfect Maine vacation!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is this a stand alone property or are there neighbors downstairs or upstairs?
A: Yes, this is a stand alone property. You share no walls with anyone else. The living quarters are located in the upper level. The lower level contains your laundry and John's antique cars.
Q: What's so special about Suite Thyme?
A: THE LOCATION! - You'll feel all the stress melt away just sitting on the deck or on the rocks; also the cottage itself is beautiful and cheerful, with high quality furnishings and accoutrements, sparkling clean. Hosts have home on adjacent property and are non-intrusive, yet friendly and helpful if needed.
Q: What is there to do there?
A: John and Marilyn have compiled a book called "Sweet Times at Suite Thyme". It has our favorite attractions, restaurants, and activities in it and is organized from those within walking distance, to those in the village, on the peninsula, and then with an hour north and south. Our guests find this resource terrific. We update it every year. You can stay as busy as you want - that's if you can tear yourselves away from the property!
