About New Jersey Greater Atlantic City

Best known for its casinos, boardwalk, and nightlife, Atlantic City has been a vacation hotspot for over a century. The area promises fun and thrills for all and features attractions for visitors of all ages. When you plan your trip to this East Coast destination, take your pick from Greater Atlantic City vacation rentals within walking distance of the famous boardwalk and many of the city's most dynamic casinos.

Climate

Greater Atlantic City enjoys a humid subtropical climate, which translates to pleasant summers that typically have great beach weather. Summer temperatures usually top out around 80 degrees, while winter temperatures drop to the 30s or 40s. The Atlantic City area gets a relatively consistent amount of rainfall year-round, so there's no rainy season to avoid.

Transit

Getting to Atlantic City is easy, thanks to the convenient Atlantic City International Airport, which flies visitors in from the Midwest and the East Coast. About 60 miles northwest, the Philadelphia International Airport is another handy option that has both rental cars and train service to Atlantic City.

Once you're in the city, you'll have numerous options for getting from the casinos to the beach to Greater Atlantic City vacation rentals. Plan to rent a car if you want to travel far up or down the coastline, or stroll along the boardwalk and covered walkways to get to the beach and many of the casinos. The local jitneys also offer quick and affordable public transit between the casinos.

Neighborhoods

In order to make the most of your trip to Atlantic City, it’s important to have a clear idea of what your family needs in terms of amenities and activities. For example, families with little ones who love the ocean may want to choose a waterfront rental over a more urban, high traffic area; whereas, adults may enjoy the nightlife and boardwalk.

There are two areas in Atlantic City that tourists with families may find the most interesting: the Boardwalk and the Marina. Both have a number of attractions that people staying in Greater Atlantic City vacation rentals will appreciate and enjoy. In terms of location, the Boardwalk is ideally situated off the beach, while the Marina is near the casinos. The Marina area is also near boats, cruise ships, and other watercraft.

Things to Do

Start your trip to Atlantic City with a walk along the city's famous boardwalk, which features no less than four miles of games, shops, and restaurants. Snack on some homemade Atlantic City taffy, and stop at Steel Pier for some of the boardwalk's most daring rides. Other attractions at the pier include the Atlantic City Art Center, the Atlantic Historical Museum, and the historic Boardwalk Plaza.

Most Atlantic City casinos are about much more than gambling. Caesar's Atlantic City, for instance, boasts more than 2,000 slot machines, along with hundreds of table games, the high-end Playground shopping center, and shows that feature top musical and theatrical performers every night.

Another popular attraction not to be missed is Absecon Lighthouse. Located on the north end of the city, it has over 200 steps and is the tallest lighthouse in the state.

Nightlife

It might seem like the party never stops in Atlantic City, thanks to countless dance clubs, nightclubs, and lounges that stay open until the early morning hours. One of the city's top nightclubs, mur.mur at the Borgata Hotel, Casino, and Spa hosts world-renowned DJs and has one of the city's most in-demand dance floors.

Whether you want to warm up or cool off, the H2O Pool and Bar at the Golden Nugget has a selection of hot tubs where you can cozy up with friends or make some new ones. There's also a full-size swimming pool and cabanas available for rental.
When you really want to get your groove on, head over to Boogie Nights at the Tropicana Casino and Resort. A great place to host a party, this spot also plays dance-ready music most nights and often has themed events where costumes are encouraged.

Events

There are a number of events that take place throughout the year, including the following:

  • In April the International Gift and Collectible Expo takes place in the city. Kids will enjoy the limited edition dolls and stuffed animals that are on display, while adults will also take interest in them and in other collectibles as well.
  • The Atlantic City Airshow takes places annually in June along with the “Salute to the Armed Forces” parade.
  • September brings the Atlantic City Seafood Festival and the Atlantic City Outdoor Sports Show.
  • In October, take part in the Atlantic City Cinefest.

From the boardwalk to the casinos, there's always something happening in Atlantic City. Check in to one of the many spacious Greater Atlantic City vacation rentals, and stay in style in this East Coast resort town.
