Cozy Apartment Just Right For Us

April 13, 2016

We rented this whole house including the 1-bdrm and 2-bdrm suites for a one-week workshop and we will book it again. When you are reserving a space like this for the first time and having paying clients come to stay, there is always a bit of apprehension. While the stay was not trouble-free, I don't look for perfection but I do look for people who are good at communicating and do everything they can to work things out for their guests. I have to say Lauren, the manager, was attentive and responsive with some of the issues we had including coordinating various arrival dates into the different spaces we had booked. The biggest issue we had was with the heating during what was by all accounts, a very cold spell in NOLA. In this space, the heating was much better than the main house. I did have to use an additional baseboard heater in the bedroom that faced the street. There is a door and window which made it quite drafty but once the extra heater was plugged in, the room was perfect. While we were there, the unit opposite us was being renovated. Luckily we were out during the day so the noise was not an issue for us but it is something I would have liked to have been made aware of at the time I booked. This 2-bdrm is a very cozy space with comfortable beds and it has a sofa bed in the living room so you can squeeze more people in there if you really need to. The real surprise in this apartment was the shower. Talk about luxury. It is the kind of shower you find in ritzy hotels and I loved waking up every morning knowing I'd be in for a treat to start my day. The kitchen is small but you really don't need anything bigger as you are probably eating out more of the time. For breakfast before you head out, it's perfect. I booked the entire house and will leave a review on the other two spaces if you are interested. Thanks Lauren for all your help. See you again!

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How is the neighborhood? Is it safe?
A: We are part of the Garden District and are deemed a historical building, and as such receive all the benefits of the Garden District Association, including private security surveillance from the Garden District Security Patrol. This building is also our home and we feel safe and secure here ourselves.
Q: Do we need a car?
A: No, not really. The St Charles Ave street car is a great way to get to many area attractions. Also, since Uber came to town, getting a taxi is a snap. Of course, if you drove here, we have plenty of safe and secure parking around the building, and places for you to lock and store your bicycles if you are riders.
Q: What do you supply? Should we bring our own towels?
A: Just about everything! Linens, towels, coffee, tea, creamers, sugar and sweeteners, salt, pepper, and spices to start. And all units in our building have fully stocked kitchens with plenty of dishes, flatware, glasses, cups, as well as paper towels and napkins. Bathrooms are fully stocked as well with towels, facecloths, soaps, shampoos, facial and toilet tissue. 3 of the 4 units have laundry facilities; for the one without, we will even give you a voucher for a complementary laundering at the local Black and Gold Wash and Fold. We also supply umbrellas, and even those folding chairs in bags for you festival and concert goers...
Q: What happens if we lose our key or get locked out?
A: Nothing - we don't have keys. All of our door locks are keyless entry locks and each guest is assigned their own personal code for their stay. In the unlikely event of a malfunction, we have a manual override master key for all locks in a lockbox accessible to all guests if the neither one of the owners or the property manager are in residence.
Q: With other units in the building, do you have a policy about making sure guests don't disturb each other when it's bedtime?
A: Yes. But first, we will say that we have never really had any groups that have been disrespectful or discourteous to fellow guests in all the years we have operated the inn. We do have a "quiet time" policy where we request all guests to please "turn it down" for the night...usually by 11:00PM on weeknights and midnight or soon after on the weekends. Most people who stay in the Garden District do so because they wish to be away the crowds and the noise (and the olfactory assault) of the Quarter, so we usually find we have guests with similar mindsets.
Q: What if we have to leave behind food or groceries when we leave?
A: We have identified numerous places in need where we make donations. Nothing goes to waste or gets thrown away unless it is unusable, spoiled, or deemed unsanitary if shared.
Q: Are there restaurants, grocery stores, and drug stores nearby?
A: Yes to all three! The Fresh Market is less than a 10 minute walk where there is a Rite Aide Pharmacy across the street as well, Several restaurants are also nearby like Commander's Palace (dress nice!); Superior Grill; Superior Seafood; The Delachaise; The Bind Pelican; Sushi Brothers; Mr. John's Steakhouse; VooDoo Barbecue; Emerill's Delmonico; The Columns; and many others up and down St. Charles Avenue. Magazine Street is a short 10 minute walk as well and has dozens of places to eat and drink, shop, buy artwork, boutiques, antiques, etc...so there's plenty of things nearby within walking distance to keep you busy.
