“Gorgeous home, Great experience”

Reviewed 10 Apr 2016

Carolyn made us feel very welcome in her home and was wonderfully knowledgeable about things in and around NYC. She has been hosting guests for many years, and is very attuned to ensuring a positive experience. We were given full access the the third floor of her home which included 3 bedrooms, a full bath, and a fully equipped kitchen. Our teenage daughters loved having so much space as compared to a traditional hotel. The home is located within easy access to public transportation and provided a wonderfully quiet respite from the full busy days touring the sights of the city. We definitely hope to come back to New York as there is far more to see and do than we were able to accomplish in our 4 day stay - will most certainly attempt to schedule our stay with Carolyn again.

“Very comfortable and roomy”

Reviewed 8 Sep 2015

3-bedrooms was just what we needed in order for the five of us to be comfortable and for the price we had lots of room rather than all of us being in a hotel with two queen size beds and nowhere to roam. The neighborhood was very safe and quiet at night and we enjoyed the subway rides in and out of Manhattan. We would definitely stay here again

Owner's reply: Happy you enjoyed your experience. We tried to furnish the apartment so folks did not feel they HAD to be in the living room just to relax and have space to do things.

“really good”

Mrs. Owerka was really nice ! She helped us however ehe could... The Appartement was big and well equiped ... Also there is a trainstation 2 minutes away the location and rooms were really enjoyable i recommend it to everyone !

Owner's reply: Marvin and his gracious friends were a very easy group to host and accomodate since they were so prepared and specific about what they would need during their visit. Although they came during the worst winter weather in over 100 years, they remained upbeat. I look forward to their staying again during a different season. They would be very welcomed.

“Wonderful Holiday”

Reviewed 2 Dec 2014

Our family stayed at the property over the Thanksgiving Holiday and had a wonderful time. Property is close enough to the City for easy access yet far enough away to avoid the noise and traffic. Carolyn was a wonderful host with recommendations on places to eat, how to best manage the subway, etc. Definitely recommend the property but bring warm socks the floors get cold.

“Great Experience”

Everything was clean and she was a great hostess. Her home is very beautiful with beautiful artwork as she is an artist. It is a brownstone. She lives in the building as well. Just keep in mind that if you vacation here in the winter to bring warm pajamas and house coats as she has a set schedule for the heat. Also, make sure you don't have any problems with going up and down stairs because you will have to go up a few flights of stairs. The other thing is its better to take public transportation or car service because the parking on the street is VERY limited. We sometime had to park a few blocks or more away. Other than that, I would definitely stay again (without a personal vehicle). Especially in the summer.

Owner's reply: Happy you enjoyed your stay with us and am delight you'd like to come back during the summer season. We do try to accommodate renters with the temperature of the heat and are willing to adjust it when we know you will be coming in extra late. Yes, public transport is the way to go - particularly when one comes back late in the evening. It's difficult even for residents to find a parking space anywhere in Manhattan.

Lovely apartment. Lots of room for three couples. No problem parking in the street. Owners live downstairs, friendly and very helpful. Short walk to subway. Close to Yankee stadium. Great neighborhood jazz clubs nearby.

Owner's reply: Robert and Adrian and their friends were an interesting group to host since they had done a fair amount of research on the City and getting around it with a sense of adventure that was contagiously exciting (even to me). I do hope they decide to rent again - they were easy going and a pleasure to host.

“Wonderful diamond”

We were wonderfully pleased with the apartment. It was cozy and a perfect location. Easy access to metro and airport travel. Ms Carolyn was so helpful getting us settled and on our way. It slept the six of us easily and could have added 2 more. We've reserved another weekend already!

Owner's reply: The McNeils, their family and friends are the gracious and well-traveled guests that make hosting a real pleasure … and fun. For me, there is always a bit of concern about whether the rental will meet the guests' expectations and needs because you are trying to provide a comfortable environment for someone you have never met. It's always a joy to see that it has met their expectations and everyone is relaxed and happy. We look forward to hosting them again!

“Sweet Sugarhill stay”

Reviewed 15 Aug 2013

We had a very nice time staying for a whole week in this beautiful house. It is a real luxury to come 'home' after a tiring day in busy NY and find a comfortable and nicely furnished appartement. The street is lined with big trees, and if you're lucky you can spot a squirrel. So we were glad we found this quiet place in Harlem, while we had been looking for an appartement closer to the centre. The owner of the house is very nice and communicative, ans she gave us many good tips. So, it was a perfect experience!

Owner's reply: The Van der Heydens were an easy-going family who truly were looking to have a relaxing, "let's see what we will do next" vacation, devoid of schedules - and they made that happen. They were a pleasure to host and we hope they will return someday.

“Manhatten, NY”

Reviewed 19 Nov 2012

We really enjoyed staying at the 3 bedroom apartment. If you shared bedrooms, it would not be crowded with 6-7 people. The back bedroom with the twin beds is connected to the other bedroom, unless you want to go out into the hall to get back into the apartment, then you have to go through that bedroom to enter the bathroom. It was fine for 2 girls in each bedroom, our guy had the front bedroom by himself and that worked out well. We were in our 60's-and the stairs were a bit much. It is on the 3rd floor but the ceilings are very tall, 10-12' tall so really it was the equivalent to a 5th story in our town, Dallas and one of our party had artheritis in her knees and it was painful for her to do them.. It is a large apartment, quiet, and only 1/2 block from the subway, 1/2 block from the bus that will take you on the East side of Central Park where museums are located. We got take-out pizza and spaghetti at a little hole in the wall catty corner from the apartment but it was very good. Our guy ate hot turkey sandwich from one of the delies on the street to the west of the apartment. We got our deposit back on inspection before we left and our host and hostess were very nice. I would suggest for girls, at least 2 of you at night walking back from subway. I did not give it a 5 stars only because of the stairs.

Owner's reply: Sue and her two friends were a delight to host and we would definitely welcome them back at any time. The one thing I found a bit puzzling is that there is a floor plan diagram of this apartment illustrated on this site and it clearly shows that the staircase ends on this floor since it is the top floor. We have always considered this hallway as part of the apartment since it is not a public pathway to another apartment or to another floor - it just ends and is quite private. One would have to walk more than half way up this staircase to even see if someone was in the hall or if there was a doorway open. As I mention to everyone who visits, the hallway is completely theirs since we who live here have no reason to be there unless there was an emergency situation or a repair that needed to be addressed.
