About Hampton Bays

About eighty miles east of Manhattan and situated on the shores of Long Island, Hampton Bays is a popular place for vacationers during the summertime. With opportunities for both relaxation and activity, this hamlet is a wonderful destination for the young and young-at-heart. Consider the range of Hampton Bays vacation rentals when planning your trip here, and save your money for entertainment that will amuse the whole family.

Climate

Certainly, the summer months are the most popular time to stay in Hampton Bays vacation rentals, and with good reason. Few families will want to vacation in the area before the temperatures begin to climb in late spring and early summer. During the summer months, the weather is warm and humid with temperatures in the low-80s, while the winter months sink into the low-20s. In addition to colder temperatures, it’s also important to note that many businesses close down for the season at this time of year.

Transit

A hamlet within the larger town of Southampton, Hampton Bays is small in area and easy to get around. Many choose to get to Hampton Bays via the Long Island Rail Road, which runs daily throughout the year. Once in town, the Suffolk County Transit offers many bus routes available to people for a nominal fare. When it’s warm out, rent a bike from a local shop or simply walk about the town and take it all in. The community is bounded by bays on three sides, and is a beautiful place to explore on foot.

Things to do

The greatest attraction to Hampton Bays, hands down, is the area’s beaches. A family-pleasing vacation here might consist of simply heading to the shore each morning and playing in the sand until the sun begins to set. There are many options where you can go and enjoy the coast, including the breathtaking Ponquogue Beach and Meschutt Beach County Park, which has lifeguards on duty, picnic areas and a playground. Sears Bellow County Park is perfect for those looking for more than just water activities as it features many trails for biking, hiking, and horseback riding, as well as spots for fishing and boating.

If the weather turns, wait out the storm at the United Artists Hampton Bays 5 movie theater. For more family-friendly entertainment, check out what’s playing at the Quogue Junior Theater, which has productions just for kids. For a special treat, visit one of the many sweet shops in the area, such as Star Confectionery in nearby Riverhead. Also in ...
