Reviews for this vacation apartment rental in Newburyport, Massachusetts
Affordable Apartment Close to Town
August 23, 2011
We visit Newburyport each year during Yankee Homecoming to see family and friends. Finding this apartment for rent (at a very reasonable price) was a real coupe for our family of four. This is an older apartment that is half of a house. The owners live next door. It was very hot during our stay, so the air conditioner in the bedroom was great. If you are from the south, you may be surprised to find out that not all accommodations in town have air conditioning. Unfortunately, the downstairs was hot at night so the kids slept in sleeping bags on the bedroom floor - a tight fit - but most times of the year, this shouldn't be an issue. The full kitchen was a wonderful feature; it allowed us to eat in several nights and save on the cost of dinners out. However, Newburyport has great restaurants, and many are within a short walk through quaint neighborhoods, so don't eat in too often! We enjoyed the VERY short walk to the river and several nearby parks. We LOVED having a washer and dryer in the kitchen - a life-saver with small children. The owners were a bit slow in corresponding with us, but once we were there, they were delightful and bent over backwards to make sure we had everything we needed. When the DVD player didn't work, they went right out and purchased a new one for us. They left toys and movies for the children and wine for us adults. My only suggestion is to add some lighting to the walkway, it was a little dark at night. We are hoping to stay here again next year!

Great location, VERY affordable

Kathy the owner was GREAT and super accommodating. We didn't need a full week rental as we were flying back home on Thursday and she prorated the price for us, which is unheard of in the summer on the coast. The location was perfect, a short walk to town, and although we drove to town instead several times (I'm six mo pg and the walking was taking it's toll) there were always plenty of places to park in the city lots for $.50 and hr. House was clean and cute-not tons of space, but we were at the beach and in town most of the time. Fully equiped kitchen including laundry, which was really nice, and Kathy even left extra towels and a bottle of wine my husband enjoyed when we arrived. Overall, VERY affordable, cute, a/c unit in upstairs bedroom which was a must have as this July was uncharicteristically hot this year. Much email contact with Kathy before and after as well made me feel like we were going to stay at a friends house! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
Great Stay. Home away from home.

We were back in MA for a wedding and after just having our third child, kathie and stephen made it feel like home. They left a pile of toys for the kids, along with a welcome gift for them. The homemade soap was a nice touch. It was a little cramped,(no fault of theirs) but the accomodations were fantastic. Great location and great people. Highly recommend.

Everything was as described!
Revised from above review

I was a little premature in writing the previous review. It took us a couple of months to receive our deposit back after several phone calls and promises of "the check is in the mail". Now given that experience I would not recommend this stay unless there is no security refundable deposit. We had intended on returning but the owners made it so uncomfortable with having to call them for about two months (when the deposit was supposed to be returned in two weeks. All I can say is be careful of your deposit.

We had a great time. The house had everything that was listed and then some. The family that owns the house couldn't be nicer. A quiet neighborhood, with the owners of the home living next door. We would recommend this stay to anyone and plan on returning next year. The location is perfect between two beautiful beaches and nestled in the great little town of Newburyport with so many things to do so close by. The family gave some great recommendations of things to do which made searching for the best spots all that much easier. Thanks again Kathie and Stephen see you next year PS Go Yankees
