“Leaf Peeping in Maine”

Reviewed 8 Oct 2013

This home delivered on all of it's promises. The view of the lake from the home is nothing short of spectacular! There are 2 kayaks and a canoe for renters to use that came in very handy. If all you want to do is sit, relax and enjoy the peace, you can do that too. You can take easy walks or challenging hikes right from the house. We enjoyed everything about the house and the vacation and intend to return.

“Great Lake House”

Reviewed 17 Sep 2009

Enjoyed our stay at this great house on Embden Lake in Maine. Ideal spot, right on the water with plenty of room and great toys to play with (2 kayaks, canoe, mtn bikes, etc). The weather was spectacular for September and we definitely took advantage of it. The house had everything we needed for the group of us. Wish we could have stayed for longer... We all agreed that we would love to make a trip up here again.

“Perfect Maine Getaway”

Fantastic ... first words that come to mind when walking thru the front door. From the cathedral ceilings, window covered walls, to the mountain / water view right off the back deck ... this is the epitome of Maine luxury. Incredibly spacious, room for 8 at a minimum, plenty to do for the parents and children alike ... a must see!!!.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

This spot is a coveted retreat! We had great weather-lots and lots of tubing, waterskiing, and kayaking. Your neighbors are charming, welcoming, and generous. We had a full week packed with adventure. We cycled the local trails and went blueberry picking with Tom the neighbor. Bob and Barb (other neighbors) were engaging and helpful and even gave the boys multiple tube adventures on the jet ski. Your spot is comfortable and cozy. Many Thanks, Jeff & Leslie Latimer, Craig & Mollie Sieve & Family, Rye & Portsmouth, NH

Your home & location on Embden fully embraced us! Alden & Claire played endlessly in "Maxon Harbor". Boating, hiking, fishing, golfing, exploring, reading, relaxing...we did it all - but not too much! Being here has been wonderful. All of your neighbors we found welcoming & generous. Our best, Greg & Mary Aikins, New Jersey

WOW! WOW! WOW! That was my first thought walking in the door and my thoughts have only improved from there. This is such a lovely spot and my whole family fell in love with the entire package...the house...the lake...the friendly neighbors...even Pinkham's Country Store has a charm all its own. My two boys learned how to kayak for the first time and my wife and I appreciate the calm and clean water. If you ever think of selling call us first...and even if you don't, chances are we will be back again and again! The Hamilton Family of Woburn, MA Eric, Dee, Danny, Tommy, Carolyn, and Dolores.

What a wonderful place! The pictures just do not do this home justice. We had a truly Maine vacation. Hiking thru the woods was the best part-we saw squirrels, deer, raccoon, and even a MOOSE! A day trip to Acadia was breath taking--we wish we had more time. Kayaking on the lake made us feel like ancient indians. Bob & Barb were gracious and congenial-they truly made the trip. Thanks for a great time! The Bou's-Doug, Amy, Hadley & Madison, Florida.

After a long day of driving 6 hours we arrived at Embden Lake for a week of R&R. Needless to say, we were greeted by Barb & Bob, just great people! The lake house is warm and inviting and just sets the mood for relaxing. The two marker posts north of the house gave up some nice smallmouth bass. One night, we sat by the campfire cooking smores, looking up at the stars as loons echoed in the background. We would occassionally see deer walking along the road in front of the house. We also fished Kennebeck River down 201A a few miles (great place!). A ride out Route 16 to the Ski areas provided beautiful scenery. We really enjoyed our stay, and look forward to return. Just a tip for anyone staying here, a short trip down to Madison and you can find all your modern conveniences and for those of you who love great sales, check out Reny's! They have alot of brand name items at about 1/2 the reg price. My daughters and I had a great time in there. Pam & Shane, thanks for allowing up the priviledge to relax here at Embden Lake. Rob, Lisa, Renae, & Rebecca of Conn.

May 19, 2006 Despite bad luck with the weather, mostly rain, we enjoyed our stay. The place is ideal for families and we appreciated the extras provided such as the fishing poles, canoe, etc. My boys loved it. A really lovely place in a great spot in Maine. The McHenry's, Raleigh, NC

July 4th, 2006 A thank you note from the Johnson family...it couldn't have been any better! Your generousity in sharing your beautiful home, Bob & Barb's gracious hospitality and welcoming spirit, the sunshine and picture postcard views inside and outside! After 15 years of vacationing in Maine this tops them all! White water rafting, kayaking at sunrise, swimming all day in water you can drink, shopping at Reny's (who needs Freeport!), lobsters, and laughter...we feel completely blessed.

July 2006: Thank you so much for letting us rent this beautiful house for the week! We all had a great time. The lake is wonderful--everything about the house was more than we had hoped for. We can't wait to come back again! Jim & Beth Hayes, Steve, Terry, Paul, Curt & Niro.

July 2006: Thank you very much for letting us stay in your wonderful house. We had a great time swimming and floating in the pond. Bob & Barb were great, they took us tubing and that was a blast! The weather was beautiful all week and the fishing was great. We enjoyed watching the sunsets at night. Once again thank you so much for letting us stay. Your home is beautiful. Kevin, Kim, Kaitlyn, and David. East Longmeadow, MA

July 2006: The house was beautiful and comfortable. We had 2 families of 4 each and it worked out beautifully. The lake was great, swam and floated everyday. The fishing was great, caught tons of bass--this is certainly not an empty pond!! We really didn't want the week to end. Bob & Barb were extremely friendly and hospitable. They took the kids tubing and let our son take the jetski out anytime. Nice quiet place, not too commercialized. Kim, Jim, Erin, and Mike Heely, Somers, CT

Thank you for the perfect Maine vacation--we brought the boat and went fishing and tubing everyday. We also had smores by the fire. Monique, John, Dan and Derek Swansen, Merrimack, MA

Aug 12-19, 2006: You couldn't have asked for better weather with sunshine everyday. Temps were between 70-80 for the week and the nights were 50's. We brought a ski boat and spent alot of time tubing on the lake as well as kayaking. We brought kayaks as well and spent the day on the Kennebec River, putting in at Solon and out at North Anson. Brought my fly fishing gear and headed to the Kennebec in Bingham and Madison for a couple of evenings with excellent success. Landed a mix of browns and rainbows. Golfed down at Lakewood Golf Course in Madison on Rte 201--very nice course with a wide open front nine and narrow challenging back nine. Our busy week continued with a hike to Moxie Falls and an outstanding bike ride on the rail trail along the Kennebec between Solon and Bingham. Bob and Barb are the neighbors everyone wishes they had, truly outstanding human beings and full of wisdom and knowledge. Tom, on the other side was just as courteous, using his generator to inflate our tube. Nightly campfires, toasting marshmellows and listening to the loons while watching the Perseid Meteor showers created the entertainment in the evenings. Drove up to Moscow and to the US Military Low Frequency Radar Station for some Moose sightings at dusk. Saw them as it crossed the road in front of us. Finished the week with a drive up to Sugarloaf ski area. All in All just a fabulous week on Embden Pond. The Kolandas, Morrills, and Greenwoods.
