Description from owner
Loon Lodge is a waterfront cottage located on Lucas Pond, a quiet lake in Northwood, NH. Lucas Pond is a no-motor lake open for safe, quiet and unpolluted kayaking, canoeing, fishing, rowing, relaxing, playing, and swimming. It is a favorite waterfowl feeding lake frequented by loons, geese, ducks, and herons. Only one and a half hours from Boston, this pond is stocked with trout every year and also holds large mouth bass and at least four species of trout. Loon Lodge is a private, quaint family cabin and includes private water front, a thirty foot dock, a floating raft, two kayaks, a row boat, a paddle boat, a canoe, an outdoor gas grill, a fire pit, and outdoor furniture.
The lodge has a private 1st floor bedroom with a queen size bed and air-conditioning, and a 2nd floor open loft with two twin beds (with a fan but no AC). The sofa in the main room opens to a double bed for a guest if necessary. The main room of the lodge has a high open ceiling with a brick fireplace, comfy family seating, dinning table for up to 6 and a full open kitchen. The screened in porch offers a spacious second seating and dining area (table for 4) with a water view.
Loon Lodge is a wonderful place for a family getaway. Although there are plenty of other activities close by, you may not want to leave. Fishing, boating, swimming, and just plain relaxing are right in your front yard.
Lucas Pond is a New Hampshire trout pond, stocked every spring before opening day. The fishing season on Lucas Pond runs from the 4th Saturday in April until the 15th of October.
Loon Lodge feels like a home away from home for us and we hope that it will feel that way for you too.

“Great Family Vacation Spot!”
We had a great family stay at Loon Lodge! My husband, son (12), daughter (3) and I all had a fantastic time! The cabin fit us just right. We enjoyed swimming off the dock, kayaking and lakeside campfires (s’mores!). The few rain showers were relaxing. My son enjoyed catching (and releasing) frogs. My daughter adored watching my son’s antics as well as pushing him off the dock! At night we would enjoy the beautiful sunsets. It was a memorable experience! Thank you!
Owner's reply: Thank you, Kim, for taking the time to review your stay. We are so glad that you, Keith, and your children had a fantastic time. We hope that you all enjoyed the rest of your summer and wish for you all the best. In peace, Dan and Ashley
“Perfect for Quiet Getaway”
My husband and I were looking for a quiet, well appointed water side getaway in a convenient southern NH location- we got all of this and more at Loon Lodge. Extras included: the owners supplied linens (hooray), kayaks, a rowboat and a paddle boat all available. The cottage was spotless and well supplied. The screened in porch turned into our "home away from home". Many screened windows insured that all the breezes off Lucas Pond were ours to enjoy. We entertained guests from Rochester NH and they gave our rental rave reviews. I felt like Goldilocks when she discovered the bears' home- it was just right!
Owner's reply: Dear Gail and Jim, We are so pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Loon Lodge. It was such a pleasure to meet you. Thank you very much for your thoughtful review. Wishing for you all the best, Daniel and Ashley
During our stay at Loon Lodge we experienced many wonderful beauties of nature! For instance the wonderful Loon who would not let me get a picture for the life of me. Everytime I tried he would dive under water and then he would follow me when I was out in the paddle boat just to do the same thing. The pond was absolutely beautiful and so serene. If you want wildlife this is the place to be! At night you could here a screech owl and the loon, it seemed as if they were talking to each other not to mention my buddy the bull frog would be very active at night and in the morning. I had the pleasure of feeding my fellow red squirrel as he and a baby chipmunk sat on the swing near me while I fed them cashews. It was quite hilarious to say the least! You lodge was very comfortable and homey. My son, his friend, my friend, and I had a great time fishing. We had a contest to see who could catch the most fish. Well the kids definitely beat us but they caught the babies while jim and I caught pretty big bass. I also caught a few babies but we threw back everything we caught so they could get big for next year! We had a beautiful fire every night! We laughed, had some wonderful conversations, and relaxed while we were at Loon Lodge. During the week my brother passed away and this was actually the perfect spot to be to sort out my thoughts. Dan and Ashley were very accommodating and very caring people! If you plan on going to Lucas Pond you will have a very enjoyable time! Everything you need is right there. The stores and antique alley are all right down the street if you enjoy antiquing. Thank you again Dan and Ashley we had a fabulous time! Adrienne, Jim, Anthony, and Matt
Owner's reply: Thank you, Adrienne, for your thoughtful review. It was such a joy to meet you and your family and we are so glad that Loon Lodge offered you fun, comfort, and a place for self-reflection. We wish you all the best in the coming year. Dan and Ashley
“The Perfect Rustic Getaway”
As NH natives who moved away many years ago, we were looking for an experience that would bring back the NH summers of our childhoods. Loon Lodge was perfect. It is rustic and nothing fancy; it is not for those looking for luxury. The pond is quiet and clean, great for swimming, fishing and boating. Ducks and loons make their rounds several times a day. We loved taking the kayaks out, especially at the beginning and end of the day (and I haven't set foot in a boat in decades). The cabin is very small. It was fine for two of us, but may feel cramped for more than a couple. Daniel and Ashley are perfect hosts. They thought of everything, and were only a text away when we had questions. The bed and furniture were clean and comfortable. I liked that the furniture fit the rustic feel of the cabin and I never worried that something was "too good to use" as you might feel about fancy furniture. We had no problems all week. We hosted a family reunion with 30 people, and because of the massive screen porch and all the great outdoor spaces, it worked just fine (you should suggest that your guests carpool, as parking is limited). The proximity to Rt 4, grocery store, etc. is really convenient. We're not a fan of fireworks so we'll probably avoid the 4th of July next year (they went on for 3 nights!), but it would be great for those who like them. Neighbors were friendly but not intrusive. There is no internet, but cell coverage was good. The library nearby on Rt 4 has internet but is not open every day, so plan accordingly. We had a great time, and we hope to come back next year.
Owner's reply: Thank you, Christine, for your thoughtful comments and kind words. Ashley and I are so happy that you both had a great time and enjoyed Loon Lodge. We look forward to seeing you next year! Daniel and Ashley
Owner Supplied Testimonials
Thank you, Dan and Ashley! Loon Lodge was everything we had hoped for. My husband and I went out in the kayaks every day and were treated to several loon sightings. Every evening we had cocktails on the dock and watched the sunset. We also were delighted to hear bagpipe music across the lake to accompany the day's end. The cottage itself was perfect for games by the fire, reading, napping, and meals with a view of the lake. We feel relaxed and restored after a perfect week by the lake. Thanks again!
