If you are reading this you are probably already convinced that Ojai is a place worth visiting. Perhaps you are contemplating living here or making at least an extended visit. Here are a few suggestions for satisfying and fun things to do.
Sports & Games / Outdoors
Favorite activities in Ojai include tennis and golf, swimming in pools and in the ocean and hiking in mountains. More exotic adventures include: jumping off mountains with various sorts of wings, kitesurfing., riding bicycles fast and slow and motorcycling in diverse and interesting terrain. The ocean and the mountains are both about twelve minutes away in different directions. Ojai is in a valley with vast avocado and citrus orchards, a wide array of shops and lots of private schools. The Ojai, a century old tennis tournament, allows spectators up close and participation in both an Open tournament and the Pac-10 tournament.
Cultural and Educational Events
The highly acclaimed Ojai Festival fills the Libbey Bowl every June. The Los Angeles Philhamonic, soloists and ensembles play under the stars in Ojai for three days and nights. In Ojai Throughout the year you will find: a Storytelling Festival, a Yoga Conference (Yoga Crib), Shakespeare in the Park, the Ojai Film Festival, Playwrights Conference, Lavendar Festival,
Poetry Festival, Art Walk, etc..
Libraries and Bookstores
Just before entering Ojai, you'll pass Krotona Center for Theosophy with school, library and bookstore. The Krishnmurti Foundation maintains a library on the East End of town near the Thacher School. Ojai's public library is found in the center of town with access to all of Ventura County's offering of books. Local hero is known for its wonderful selection of books from all genres. Bart's Books is a unique outdoor used bookstore. Both are in the heart of downtown Ojai.
Raising Children and Growing Old (or growing young)
This small town of Ojai, with proximity to Santa Barbara and Los Angeles maintains a distinct personality. Many do not commute to larger communities on a daily basis, but rather live and work here, while others commute. The demographic of Ojai reflects a comfortable balance of growing families, eccentric artists and retired folk. Right now, for example, it's March. The rains have passed and the mountains are in bloom. Streams run and the mountains are green. There is still snow on the peaks of the Topa Topa mountain range, five thousand feet above sea level. Families play in the park. Art films are shown on Sunday afternoon in the Ojai Playhouse. Theater 150 has a one-man show this month, imported from some large city. We are enjoying a very warm and satisfying spring, though most roses are still dormant, the air is fresh.
People have strong opinions about where they have morning coffee (there are at least 3 coffee shops within city limts), and while they are mostly loyal to their favorite café, they may actually move around a bit. Solutions to the world's problems can be found at the Ojai Roasting Company while explanations of local complaints are spoken aloud in Java Joe's. The Café Emporium allows you to have breakfast outdoors on the patio, and The Inn pampers you in resort fashion. Similarly in the evenings, Ojai has a number of good restaurants: Suzanne's, Ranch House, Ojai Valley Inn, Farmer & the Cook, Sakura, Azu, Auberge, Exotic Thai; not to mention that the Farmer's Market on Sunday mornings is an easy walk. There's a quite a bit of variety for a small town!

Reviews for this vacation villa rental in Ojai, California

We stayed at Glen Muse for 3 days for our wedding. We were able to rent the entire estate, host many of our friends and family, and were able to design and execute a perfect event. The property manager is fantastic, and the entire estate and grounds are stunning and comfortable. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to host a large group - the place is magical and the energy is relaxed and absolutely soothing.

Beautiful Property with Plenty of Room
August 12, 2014
This property is gorgeous and close to downtown Ojai. It's perfect for lots of overnight guests in rooms that are clean and comfortable. The pool area and recreational areas are a big bonus and if you are looking to get married on the property, there's many options for ceremony and reception locations. When I went, I was there for a tour of the property as a potential wedding weekend vacation rental and possibly ceremony and reception site. Jeska showed us the property and explained all the options and ideas available and also told us about the upcoming landscape enhancements that are going to make this place even more beautiful than it already is! The rules here are flexible and they do not require you to use their vendors. They give plenty of options, however, and they are very knowledgeable and willing to help. I thought this property was elegant and hope to rent the property for next year. Definitely worth staying if you want to experience Ojai and feel like royalty while doing it!
Not a great value
July 24, 2013
Old, dirty, and dark. Not modernized at all. The only attractive thing about it is the pool. Too few bathrooms, showers, and light fixtures. They say it sleeps 18, but that's unrealistic unless your group is a bunch of kids who like "camping" and have low standards. Most of 18 people would sleep on their dirty worn out mats in big empty rooms with no bathrooms, and there would be long, long, bathroom and shower lines for the few tiny baths. Way, way too expensive for what it is. For that price we can got so much better accommodations and bigger, brighter meeting space. We said no to this place.

Thanksgiving at Glen Muse
December 1, 2009
The kids loved it. The house was a little dated but it was beautiful. We had a family reunion and there was room for everyone to have their own bedroom. The sand volleyball court and basketball court were a hit with the young ones. We never left the property. There was so much to do at the house. No need to go anywhere else.
Wow - this place was a phenomenal way to experience Ojai. I'd imagine most have heard of Ojai Valley Inn, but personally I'd recommend everyone try to stay here. It's far more unique, homey, has an amazing pool (salt water!) with hot tub, and (the owner) is a fabulous person. -Manoj L., San Francisco, CA
We had a fantastic stay at Glen Muse. The pool and jacuzzi were wonderful and the rooms were excellent. Communication was great and it is a terrific location close to town. I would definitely recommend Glen Muse to people who are looking for a relaxing getaway to Ojai. We will definitely go back! -Laura F., Santa Barbara, CA
My family stayed in this property for almost a week and we were very comfortable there. The property is really, really spacious, and the grounds surrounding it are beautiful. While it was too cold to swim in the pool, we did use the hot tub which was very nice. We enjoyed playing on the piano and on the volleyball and basketball courts, as well. Overall, a really unique place to stay to explore Ojai and surrounding areas! Jodi M., Farifax, CA
This is no ordinary place. If you've come to Ojai to recharge and recenter then you want to hang your hat here. The Glen Muse blends an eclectic mix of modern day comforts with natural serenity, peaceful isolation and a conscious living environment. The extraordinary folks here will make you feel welcome and at home, while also reminding you of how much people can care about this beautiful world and derive joy from being involved in it. Once you pass the gates of this estate you are in for a treat. We truly enjoyed ourselves, have already referred friends and will be back soon... Patrick P., Brentwood, CA
Glen Muse was beyond magical. Forget staying at the Ojai Valley Inn. This was much better! The private tree-filled estate is tucked away from the road like its own oasis. The mansion is exactly what the pictures show, a Tudor house with formal dining room, living room, expansive entertaining areas and a gorgeous pool area. There was also a beach volleyball court and the largest geode I had ever seen. Our room was far beyond what we would have imagined, a space so large it would fit in an average NYC apt.. Seriously, the bathroom alone was off the hook with steam shower, dry sauna, his and her toilets and sink areas, a HUGE tub. We had a formal dressing room and a gazebo-like round bedroom fully surrounded by windows--in addition to the master bed. Our room opened on to a private deck where we read and sunned. Our deck overlooked the pool area which also had lounge chairs, breakfast tables, and shaded seating for when you wanted more a more cozy space. At night, we jumped into the jacuzzi next to the pool and stared up at the stars as we relaxed and soaked. Overall, we could not have had a more amazing, wonderful stay. I hope we come back soon.
