Description from manager
"Above the Clouds" is a spectacular log cabin set on 7 acres at the very top of Gateway Mountain. The long-range views of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the valley below are breathtaking. The three-level cabin is approximately 2000 square feet, with stunning views from every room. As an authentic log cabin, you will notice the fresh smell of pine every time you enter the cabin.
Relax on the huge upper deck and watch the lights come on in the valley below and the colors of the mountains slowly change as clouds pass by and as the sun sets. On the lower deck, a new hot tub sits perfectly to soak in the long-range views.
On the main level you’ll find the great room with an A-frame floor-to-ceiling wall of windows and a real wood burning stone fireplace. Also, on the main floor is the well-equipped kitchen to prepare a gourmet meal after all your exploring and sightseeing, the master bedroom suite (king), the screened porch with a gas fire table, and a half-bath with laundry room. A gas grill is located just outside of the screened patio. Upstairs are 2 bedrooms (queens), a full bathroom, and a loft with a day bead perfect for gazing, napping or just relaxing while taking in the view. A venture downstairs will reveal the stately, newly finished family room with a gas fireplace, 55” smart TV, and custom-built log pool table.
Take a scenic 30-minute drive to downtown Marion or Black Mountain. You'll love exploring the local shops, restaurants, and breweries. If you're looking to enjoy some night life, check out Marion's Mica Town Brewing Company, Refinery 13 Taproom, Keeper's Cut Meadery and Spillway Bridge & Co. Black Mountain also boast 3 local breweries: Pisgah Brewing, Lookout Brewing, and Black Mountain Brewing, along with incredible restaurants like Foothills Butcher Bar, Louise's Kitchen, and Black Mountain Bistro. Downtown Asheville, the Biltmore Estate, Chimney Rock and Lake Lure are all within a 45-minute scenic drive. If you don’t want to leave the gates of Gateway Mountain like many of our guests, be sure to check out Gateway Mountain’s very own amenities like the floating dock on Lake George, hiking trails, and gorgeous waterfalls! And, of course, dozens of hiking trails for all skill levels are conveniently located close by.
PLAN TO ARRIVE DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS THE FIRST TIME. To get to this gorgeous cabin, you will have to navigate some steep mountain roads with some twists and turns. The last part of the drive is a gravel road so having a 4WD or AWD vehicle is required. Getting there is part of the adventure. Keep your eyes out, you may even pass a bear, deer, or turkey!
Wifi is available, cell service typically works fine for most carriers and Dish satellite and smart TVs are available for streaming. You can also grab a book, puzzle, or game and just enjoy being "Above the Clouds!"
Please note: During the colder winter months, icy and/or snowy road conditions and delayed snow plow operations are possible within the development. From December through March, please come prepared with AWD or 4WD vehicles. We also recommend travel insurance for those staying in the Gateway Mountain development during the winter months.
