About Oregon Coast

The Oregon Coast is considered by many to be one of the most peaceful and beautiful regions in the United States. Its location offers scenic views of the Pacific Ocean and a front seat to the wilderness. Oregon Coast vacation rentals promise comfort and access to these national treasures during a visit to the area. Choose from available beach houses overlooking the ocean and browse nearby rentals to find your home-away-from-home while on vacation.

Climate

In addition to the 350 miles that run the length of the state, many consider the Oregon Coast to also include the first 10 miles inland as well. Since the region is so expansive, the weather can differ greatly between opposite ends of the coast. Generally, though, the state sees a healthy amount of rainfall and remains cool throughout the year. Summer temperatures typically don’t exceed 70 degrees Fahrenheit, while winter temperatures usually hover around 50.

Getting Around The Area

The Oregon Coast is a vast stretch of land bordering the majestic Pacific Ocean and it is best to have a car to get around the area. Fly into Eugene Airport and then rent a car to drive the hour west until you reach the coast. On your drive you will find that while a great part of the state is dedicated to beautiful, scenic landscapes, cities also dot the area. Visitors can find cities like Astoria, Newport, and Brookings-Harbor along the coast packed with coast vacation rentals and encapsulating everything that makes Oregon unique.

Things to Do

The wild beauty of Oregon makes it a popular spot for nature lovers. Shore Acres State Park in Coos Bay is the perfect destination for families interested in visiting the area. Oregon Coast vacation rentals near the bluff where the park is located provide great access to the natural landscape. Spectacular beaches also go hand-in-hand with Oregon’s picturesque coast. Stroll along the sand at Cannon Beach or explore the seastacks and headlands offshore via kayak. Haystack Rock and Ecola State Park are also great places to spend a day along the ocean’s edge.

In Astoria, the Columbia River Maritime Museum offers a great education on the state’s relationship with the Pacific Ocean. Learn about ship travel along the Columbia River Bar and see exciting exhibits about topics like wave height during severe storms and the U.S. Coast Guard. If you prefer to learn about what’s in the water rather than what’s traveling through it, check out the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport.

While exploring the coast, check out one of the many lighthouses found along the state’s rugged cliffs. Heceta Head Lighthouse in Florence is very remote, but it offers the brightest light on the Oregon coast. The Cape Meares Lighthouse and the Yaquina Bay Lighthouse are also worth a visit.

Food & Dining

A large part of Oregon enjoys the locavore lifestyle. In other words, food and dining on the Oregon Coast places a great emphasis on environmental sustainability, eco-friendly behavior, and consuming food that is locally grown. As a result, fresh and organic foods are abundant with local seafood, fruits and vegetables enjoying the culinary spotlight. For a special dining experience, make a reservation for dinner at The Bay House in Lincoln City, Oregon. The restaurant offers spectacular views of the water while diners enjoy unmatched cuisine. Just 20 minutes south, Tidal Raves serves up the freshest Northwest ingredients with favorites on the menu, such as the Dungeness Crab Cakes and fish tacos. For local fish and chips, try the Bandon Fish Market in Bandon, or visit Bowpicker Fish & Chips in Astoria where beer-battered chunks of tuna are served fresh off the (stationary) boat in Astoria.

When to Visit

Any time is a good time to visit Oregon’s picturesque coast, and vacation rentals are available throughout the year. Visitors who are sensitive to cold weather, however, might want to wait until the summer months to rent a beach house on the water. Warmer weather makes enjoying the surrounding beaches and traveling by road easier, as the state can see some snowfall during the winter.

With charming seaside towns packed with local eateries and attractions and an awe-inspiring landscape that beckons to adventurers, the area is perfect for all vacationers. Rent one of the many Oregon Coast vacation rentals for a truly relaxing and authentic stay in Oregon.
