Adams County is a natural "Gem." Golden eagles can be seen soaring above, Kingfishers dive for a meal, & late summer brings the monarch butterflies that visit the purple iron weed (what a photo!) Wild red columbine, and wild orchids can be found, along with morels, and wild ginger, trillium, mayflowers, and paw-paws. As you walk off the property into the forest, down the flat road, whitetail and wild turkeys come into view.

The many nature preserves are the trademark of Adams County and are close, and must be seen. Davis memorial forest, Chapparal Prairie, The Edge of Appalachia Preserve, Johnson Ridge nature preserve, Robert Whipple nature preserve, and the Shoemaker nature preserve, are just a few.. all keeping Adams County WILD! Slow down and watch for buggies as you head to the Amish community of Wheat Ridge. Visit their shops, and well kept farms. And don't forget the homemade turnovers and donuts! You can follow the quilt barn trail, Morgan's raiders trail, or check out covered bridges as you see Adams county from the back road... the way it should be seen. Head south and see Shawnee forest the " Smokies of Ohio." Fish, rent a boat, or if you want wild, fill up the tank and take a slow drive through the wilderness area, maybe see a bobcat, or black bear, or eagle. Then head to the Scioto Ribber, for great steak and yes...ribs!

Head south west for history, and the home of the underground railroad. Reverend Rankin & freed slave John Parker were instrumental in hiding slaves on their journey to Canada. Both homes are national historic landmarks. The proud people of Ripley fought off Morgan's raiders and stopped them from entering Ripley! Eliza from the book Uncle Tom's Cabin was real, and found refuge here. Need more history? Try Serpent Mound and Fort Hill, both ancient Indian earthworks. Serpent mound built at the site of an ancient meteor recently has had crop circles, and strange siting in the sky, and has been reported to be the site of the Garden of Eden (as seen on America Unearthed) and has been estimated to be built 5000 B.C.! (The time of Stonehenge) Hundreds flock here in the summer and fall to witness the alignments. And Fort Hill is still a mystery today. We got it all! See everything or just relax and do nothing! You decide. Visit the private Red Barn and we promise you will want to return!

“Communing with Nature”

Reviewed 30 Aug 2016

My husband & I just got back from a lovely weekend at "The Red Barn" and it was great. It was nice to get away from the hub bub and strife of everyday city life and just relax and enjoy nature. We saw deer, and wild turkeys and my husband caught fish right out of the pond. No noise of traffic. You could actually hear the crickets, and Oh my goodness the stars overhead were little lights from heaven. We visited Serpent mound which is close by, and got to see the covered bridges of Adams county. We also visited Amish country and don't miss out on their bake goods. The house itself was very nicely appointed, and the huge upstairs bedroom also had a seating area, which was very nice. It had all the amenities of home and then some. Including a washer and dryer for keeping your clothes fresh and clean. We would definitely come back and recommend it to all our friends Bobbi and Paul Reeves

“Prefect Relaxing Getaway”

Reviewed 5 May 2016

My wife and I enjoyed a peaceful rejuvenating weekend getaway. The Red Barn is in a very private setting surrounded by the forest where you can enjoy the sounds of the creek as you relax on the porch. We had the luxuries of home with the beauty and seclusion of a cabin. We will definitely be going back!

“We will be back!”

My husband and I have stayed in MANY different cabins and this one was by far the best! Beautiful, rustic, clean, peaceful, etc. I have never been more pleased with a cabin. We will most definitely be back.
