Description of the Overland Park vacation farmhouse / barn rental
This 1890's farmhouse is in Louisburg, Kansas, 20 miles from Overland Park, Kansas. It has 3 bedrooms, the master and sitting room are downstairs, and two bedrooms upstairs. There is is large family room that includes the Kitchen and eating area with 14ft. ceiling and lots of Windows. The bathroom is 9x16 and has 2 pedestal sinks and a tub/shower combination. The bathroom door is a 7 ft. oil painting that is on a sliding barn door hinge.
There is a wrap around porch with lots of seating and a patio table and chairs. The house has a green metal roof. There are many shade trees, Maples, Cottonwood, Willow, Walnut, and native Cyprus. On the west side of the house is a fishing pond. The property also has a red dairy barn, silo and large hay barn.
The farmhouse looks out to a bucolic green field with a pond and cattle and another farmhouse in the distance. In the fall Canada Goose migrate here on their way south but some stay here for the winter. At night one can hear the howl of Coyotes in the distance, and during the day one can see deer. There is a resident gopher who loves to eat the peaches and pears. Patches the black and white cat lives on the front porch, and is a watch cat.
This farmhouse has been in the family since 1947 when my grandfather purchased it. At that time it was a mile from the city limits, however, the west side of the farm is Rockville Rd. which is now the city limits of Louisburg. Even so it still feels out in the country.
