Thompson Lake is located in Oxford, Otisfield, Casco and Poland. It is spring-fed by the Poland Spring Aquifer and is considered one of the most pristine lakes in Maine. The lake is 12 miles long (4426 acres) and can be over 100 feet deep in some areas. The shoreline is fun to explore as it has many characteristics depending upon where you are. Some of the lake's shoreline is rocky, some beaches, some undeveloped areas, and there are many varied lake houses and cottages that are fun to view from a boat, canoe or kayak. It's also fun to see the sailboats finding their way around the lake. Use our canoe or kayaks to explore the lake, or the close by marina has boats for rent. Also, snorkeling can be such an adventure! Nature is at it's finest when you spot the ducks, deer, eagles, various species of fish, and enjoy the sight and sounds of loons on the lake. So, bring your own or rent a motor boat and enjoy this quiet beautiful lake. Enjoy the sunrises and sunsets on the Lake!

Owner Supplied Testimonials

What can i say except the owners are wonderful and so accommodating. They have been so pleasant to deal with from the start. The House is plenty big enough for 12 people. We had a large party and their was more than enough room. The way this home is furnished is beautiful all the way down to the shades on the windows. The outside is very well kept, a very nice fire pit, the dock is very nice as well. The water in this lake as got to be one of cleanest i've ever been in. We caught two BIG sized fish right off the dock. Plus plenty of little ones. Its a little shallow right in front so boating you will definitely have to do out in the open part of the lake. Otherwise this place is perfect. I have never rented a house that i didn't feel like i had to clean before i even settled in. This house was clean from top to bottom. Thanks again for letting us rent your beautiful lake Home.~Carrie B

Our extended family spent a week this August at this home on Lake Thompson. We had a wonderful stay and the house lived up to all expectations. We had two senior citizens with limited mobility, teens, youngsters and everyone had a wonderful time. The beds were wonderfully comfortable. We brought our canoes and kayaks and used those provided with the property. We rented a motor boat and the kids tubed and skied around the lake. We went for local hikes in the area and got to hit the shopping in Freeport and the lovely downtown of Portland both only 1 hour away. The house was very well appointed and very well kept. The owners were fabulous and clearly put a lot of attention into the details. Every morning we got up to a lovely view out the kitchen and bedroom windows. The docks, the patio, the grill and the firepit were heavily used. The neighbors were quiet and friendly as we took walks around the neighborhood. The kids enjoyed the air hockey table in the basement. ~Sumner

We spent a weekend this fall on the lake and had such a wonderful time!! It was the perfect way to spend my birthday! We had a big dinner outside on the deck overlooking the beautiful lake and enjoying the foliage! We jumped in the kayaks afterwards and floated around the lake taking in the amazing sights! We have three young children and they had a total BLAST!!! We brought their bikes and they were able to ride up and down the road and didn't have to worry about traffic. They enjoyed playing in the water off shore and also taking rides on the kayaks. When the sun went down and we were forced to move indoors, the fun didn't end! The kids LOVED the basement....set up with an air hockey table and a cute little movie nook! The main floor and upstairs was very accomodating! Everyone had their own rooms and nice comfy beds! :) The only negative thing I could say about this place is that we had to leave!!! We were ready to move in! The kiddos can't wait to go back! Such a beautiful and relaxing place! A PERFECT family vacation!! Thank you so much! I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! The owners were more than easy to work with and so so so friendly and accommodating! Great place and GREAT people!!! See you next time!! ~Christine B

We had a wonderful time. Great Amenities!! Lots of room for a big family with young children. Even though the lake is shallow near by you can swim out a bit and it gets plenty deep. The shallow water is appealing with young children and keeping them safe while still having fun. Plenty to do outside (canoe, kayaks, basketball hoop) and inside (cable service and wifi) and . Thompson Lake area is very beautiful, as is the surrounding area(s). Not too far from North Conway for a day trip and some great shopping at the outlets. We had a great week. Hope to go back again.~Dan M

We really enjoyed our stay at Mindy and John's wonderful home. From the beginning of the rental process, Mindy was very responsive by email. We spoke over the phone and she described the property in more detail which was wonderful. We were the first renters of the year. Upon arrival we were welcomed with a box of delicious pancake mix, maple syrup, and k cups for the coffee maker. The house was spotless. Our group consisted of 3 couples and 5 children under age 4. The bedrooms were spacious and all fit pack n plays. The beds were very comfortable. We had 2 infants staying in the upstairs bedrooms who woke up during the night. The couple in the master bedroom downstairs did not hear any crying so that was great. Unfortunately we did not have the best weather so the unfinished basement with an air hockey table, tv and couch came in very handy. The chilly weather however did not stop our 4 year old girls from swimming right next to the dock. There were steps that lead into the water and a shallow area that they could enjoy. We also did quite a bit of fishing and kayaking. We caught several large bass right off the dock. We saw loons and an eagle which was really cool. It is a very peaceful setting. The dock, deck, and yard were wonderful and when the weather cooperated we were outside every second. We used the fire pit one night which was in a great location overlooking the lake. The property was everything we expected. Also when the first couple arrived they had difficulty figuring out how to work the shower. I want to be clear there was nothing wrong with the shower just a very tired couple who had just driven 7 hours with a 6 month old baby. John came over immediately to show them how to use it. He had a great demeanor and was very friendly. Overall we had a great experience at the property and we would definitely stay again. Thank you!! ~Melissa C

This lakefront property is so cozy and welcoming it's almost impossible not to get attached. The house was not only clean and tidy upon arrival, but it had all the necessities that a home could need. An added bonus were the provided canoe and kayaks to further enjoy the lake scenery! I highly recommend this house for anyone who needs a break from the chaos of the real world, and to create their own lakeside dream. ~Steph G

What a lovely home on Thompson Lake and a great place to spend with kids. First of all, everything in the home is as advertised. There were no surprises - exactly like the pictures. One of the best features of this home is the number of bedrooms. There was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Lots of closet and drawer space as well. The view from the home to the lake is just lovely and because you can see the lake from so much of the house we were never worried about the kids. Kids spent most of the time in the kayaks and the canoe. The cove is so calm I was never worried about them and we could always see them. The owner was wonderful to work with although once we got there we never needed to contact her because we had no problems at all! The listing says that it is difficult to bring a boat into the cove but we rented one at the local marina and managed just fine (we are not experienced boaters either). Would definitely recommend this property to renters. We all can't wait to return! ~Kelly M

We rented the house in order to getaway with some close friends and let our two families spend some time together. The lake was so peaceful and the house was beautifully decorated! The six bedrooms was perfect to let the kids all have their own space. We enjoyed the fire pit, as well as the kayaks and also enjoyed sailin in the lake. The outdoor space with large deck and seating areas was also perfect for having meals and hanging out with friends outdoors. We had gorgeous weather and there is nothing more wonderful than time on the water with close friends! The owners were also wonderful to deal with, very organized and very helpful in understanding the property and the area. Thanks again for a great getaway! ~Christine T

Mindy did such a great job telling us all about the property/house and the lake that we had no surprises. It is a beautiful location and very quiet and peaceful. The house is beautifuly laid out and the bedrooms are spacious and the 7 of us had plenty of room. We rented a boat from Thompson Marina at the southern end of the lake and had no problem getting it in and out of the little "cove" that the house is on. There are stumps and such in the water but there are buoys set out. One of the neighbors let us know how to get in and out. The lake is so beautif ul and spacious. We hope to make it a yearly tradition! ~Jennifer S

We were looking for a relaxing family vacation and it was perfect! The house was very nice with plenty of space for 7 adults. We kayaked everyday on the lake and it was very peaceful. We saw a bald eagle and loons. One of the best vacations we ever had! ~Deb H

Just spent the week of Aug 8th 2015 here with my family. The house has plenty of room and privacy for all and the teens loved having the downstairs basement room for TV and Air hockey. It is very clean and well stocked. The owners thought of everything from extra blankets, window fans for each bedroom, and a huge lobster pot, which we of course used! The cove is a bit tricky and shallow if you have a motor boat because it is located on the north side of the lake, but everything was marked and the neighbors were helpful with tips to get in and out safely. This lake is spectacular and very big with very little boat traffic. There is a public launch, but be careful as there is a large rock there and we suggest you study the lake map first to avoid. Very peaceful and relaxing vacation for all and we all hated to leave.. ~Carol C

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you have things to do that are within a close proximity on a rainy day?
A: Yes, there is a movie theater and a candle pin bowling alley about 20 minutes away.
Q: Are you close to grocery stores or farm stands?
A: We have Hannaford Supermarket and a Super Walmart within 15 minutes of our home. We also have a wonderful farmstand that is called Smedberg's nearby.
Q: How close are you to the lake and how is it for young children?
A: Our home sits about 30 feet from the lakeside. Thompson Lake is very large, however we are in a cove that is shallow and calm. Our water's edge starts at just a few inches deep and gets to be about 4 feet at the end of our dock. This makes it easier for younger child to be more comfortable exploring the water.
Q: Is there a marina on the lake?
A: Yes, there is Thompson Lake marina where you can rent a boat for the day if you would like.
Q: Can we use the two kayaks and canoe that are there at your home?
A: Yes, you have access to the kayaks and canoe as well as any of the inflatable floats that are in the garage.
