Description from owner

Quiet and secluded, tucked away at the edge of native Sitka spruce and hemlock forest, our lovingly furnished house is an easy one block to the beach. MONSOON SPECIAL: Stay a 3rd night for free anytime during the off-season... The 1000-sq-ft wraparound deck offers a unique reverse-birds-eye view up into the huge trees just feet away. Wildlife abounds, the landscaping with native foliage blending seamlessly into the woods.

The house has been completely remodeled, with hardwood interiors, lots of skylights and vaulted ceilings. The large master bedroom (king-sized bed) offers a stunning view of the woods through the floor-to-ceiling picture windows making up three sides of the room. A small second bedroom has a double bed, and the living room has a queen sofa-sleeper. A single rollaway cot is also available. A (tiny, very cute) "kid's bunkhouse" sleeps 2 and adjoins the deck near the bedrooms.

Reflecting my love of cooking, the airy, spacious kitchen has lots of counter space, plethora of cooking utensils and appliances (microwave, coffee-maker, blender, etc., although no dishwasher). Charcoal barbecue available on the kitchen patio.

One seating area of the living room centers around the fireplace with comfy sofas. Another area is geared toward entertainment. Dining nook comprises the third area. High-speed WiFi is free, so movies can be streamed (or of course DVDs) to the flat screen monitor. The built-in hardwood bookcases are chock full of rainy-day entertainment: extensive library of books, DVDs, and board games.

About the area

Off the Beaten Track...For 40 miles, Highway 101 turns inland between Tillamook and Lincoln City, 5 miles north of Pacific City and due west of Portland. But running along the coastline (and unknown to most travelers) is beautiful 3 Capes Road. Nestled between 2 of the majestic capes is the tiny beach-front community of Tierra del Mar. This is the Oregon Coast of the old days. Even at the height of the summer season, you can usually walk for miles without encountering another person. The beach runs from Cape Kiwanda nearly to Cape Lookout, 8 to 10 miles of mostly deserted white sandy beach. Backing on miles of protected land, a walk in either direction on the beach passes nothing but natural bluffs and grasslands.

Getting around

Although a car is highly recommended, other modes of local transport include bicycle (rentals nearby); horseback (bring your own or "rentals" nearby with beach access for horses from our house); surfboard/scuba (rentals nearby); jet ski/kayak (rentals nearby); boat (marina/dock nearby); and of course feet (bring your own - footwear optional).

Getting here

Tierra del Mar is a tiny, unincorporated village, right on the beach, 5 miles from Pacific City. Since there is no post office, the legal address is Cloverdale, a small town 10 miles inland. Detailed driving directions and map available online (also mailed with the key). Small airport in Pacific City, 5 miles south. Nearest major airport: Portland International Airport, 90 miles distant. Maximum of 6 vehicles permitted with 2 off-street parking spaces and ample street parking.

Interaction with guest

Monsoon Special: Simply mention this when you submit your request to me; TripAdvisor has no way to list specials, so the free night must be added manually by me. Feel free to call/text/email me (owner) at any time with questions or problems. Emergency and secondary phone numbers posted clearly. Check-in/Check-out: Detailed instructions, driving directions available online with a hard copy mailed to you with the key. Key mailed to you (once payment in full has been received) approximately a week before your stay.

“Idyllic & lovely, indeed.”

Reviewed 18 Jul 2016

I strongly considered not reviewing this house for fear that it would become too popular. Idyllic Beach House is just that and more. Tierra Del Mar is an ideal spot for a relaxing vacation - it is quiet, beautiful and perfectly located on the coast. We were within 20 minutes to so many things. We are already planning our next vacation to Oregon.

“A Pleasant Surprise”

Reviewed 8 Aug 2014

We came across the Idyllic Beach House quite by chance online - and couldn't have been happier with our stay there. The house was comfortable and well-equipped with everything we needed. A truly wonderful and authentic cottage experience. Our entire family - including our two teenaged sons - loved it. Proximity to the beautiful beach was awesome. The whole rental process/experience was easy. Susy was a pleasure to deal with, and it was clear to us that she takes great pride in her place. Tierra del Mar was a real treasure. Secluded, yet with all the amenities we were looking for in a family escape, it was an all-round fantatstic vacation. We would strongly encourage others to take advantage of it and would gladly visit Idyllic Beach House again. Bravo, Susy. And thanks so much!

“Great time in Oregon , Pacific Coast”

Reviewed 31 Jul 2013

Great location, the House was really cosy and pleasant, just a pity it has only one bathroom not enough for 6 people. The second bedroom bed was a bit too small for two people. However everything else was great/

“Quality Family time”

Reviewed 22 Apr 2013

We enjoyed staying at Idyllic Beach House in Tierra del mar Oregon. The house was surrounded by woods with the beach across the street. Although it rained most fo the trip we still had a wonderful time. They had lots of board games and the children played nicely (not like at home). The kitchen is nicely stocked with all the cooking untesils ,pots, pans and dishes you could possibly need. The Master bedroom is onderful Large with pleanty of windows and a deck for your morning coffee. The beach was great and there was no one else on it. We flew kites and played frisbee. The dogs to labs had a wonderful time running the beach and chasing sea gulls. The house has Wifi but no cable which we did not mind as we were there to enjoy each other and connect with out the everyday distractions we have at home

“Such a nice house, huge master bedroom!”

Reviewed 25 Nov 2012

Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful beach house. We had a blast! I love the beach. a rare section of sand on the Oregon coast. So close & really one of the nicer beaches on the OC. The master bedroom, wow!

Owner's reply: So glad you had a good time!

“Wonderful stay”

Reviewed 7 Oct 2010

We so enjoyed staying at Susy's Pier Street house! Our little dogs really enjoyed being able to run around in the fenced backyard after trekking 2,000 miles in a car. We loved the neat house, Oregon coastline, beaches, and relative quietness of the area. The proximity to Pacific City made it perfect to run out for a local brew whenever we wanted. The only reason this stay gets four stars instead of five is because it rained the entire time we were there. We know Oregon rains a lot, but we'd heard mid-September would be the LEAST likely time for this to occur so were a bit bummed about that. It was still a wonderful trip and we hope to be back again soon!

Owner's reply: Sorry about the rain...I'll try harder next time! But thanks so much for the lovely review! - Susy

“VERY, very, very secluded!”

Reviewed 27 Jul 2009

This house was darling! There are a few things that were a HUGE inconvenience: NO TOWELS of any kind were provided. We flew from Arizona to stay here, so it was a big surprise to not have that necessity. And there is no cable tv!!! You won't have cell service - guaranteed! Its so secluded that you feel isolated from the rest of the world. The beach is nice, with very few people and since its set in a cove, there is little wind!! I probably wouldn't stay here again only b/c of the secludedness of it all!

Owner's reply: Thanks for what is overall a very nice review. I think the things you may have found unnerving - the fact that the house and Tierra del Mar are very secluded - are precisely the things many people are looking for. As a note, the facts that there are no towels provided, no cable television, and that cell phones do not work are explained in detail in the information sheet we provide to all renters. We do have a land-line for our guests' use. (Since so many people have asked us about towels from reading this review: the only reason I don't provide them is because the housecleaner would have to stay an extra hour each time just to run the load of towels, the cost of which would have to be passed onto the renters.) - Cheers, Susy.

Got to come here for my birthday this year (as a surprise - hooray!). This was our second stay here. Our first being for our honeymoon. This is my favorite spot on the beach, because it's in a nice secluded spot. And I love the house. I love that hardly anything seems to have changed in the last five years -- it made it feel even more like home :) I just love the master bedroom and can't wait to come back to it again. This visit, we went to Tilamook cheese factory, went to the beach, went hiking at Cape Lookout, ate in Cape Kiwanda, went to Blue Heron, and even rescued a dog who had ran up onto the highway. Speaking of which, I can't wait to actually bring the dogs next time we come visit. They are going to have such an awesome time at the beach. Anyway, we love this house, the hostess, the location, and have nothing but good to say about it. Thanks!

What a beautiful getaway! Not our first stay with you, but our first in the Pier Street House...which put us in dangerous proximity to the Rock Shop which of course has everything from petrified wood to opals. We spent hours on the beach enjoying the ocean's many moods; my (Carol) favorite at dusk with fog descending and sand swirling up so you can hardly tell where the ocean begins. The fireplace and lovely, comfy living room made evenings cozy too. Love the book and game collection! We're SO looking forward to our next visit. -- Ed and Carol

Guardenia House is a great place to stay in Tierra del Mar, a wonderful little dip in the road along the central Oregon Coast. Situated on the NE corner of the Three Capes Scenic Highway and Guardenia St., the home is nestled in the woods, off the road and has great privacy with only one neighbor in view. Being dog friendly, the atmosphere is very relaxed & casual but plenty comfortable for a beach house. The master bedroom takes the cake with cathedral ceilings and windows from bottom to top which make you feel like you're camping-out in the comfort of the cozy indoors. Beach access is a short, 1 block walk down Guardenia St. and a walk North along the flat and wide white sand takes you quickly beyond the beachfront housing to a very remote and beautiful stretch of beach. Such a relaxing and special place & a great vacation rental.

Another lovely trip to Pier Street -- it's our favorite beach house! Crack the window in the bedroom for the sounds of the ocean to lull you to sleep...haul out the DVD player after the baby is asleep for a cozy movie and glass of wine...appreciate the big open floorplan on the 1st floor and the washer and dryer are a MUST with a 1-yr-old in tow. We really appreciate the fenced yard and doggie door for our pooches, too. Instant 'mellow' as we arrive in Tierra del Mar, and we are already working on plans for a return trip! Thanks again, Jane

Loved the Pier St. house! Tierra del Mar is our
favorite Pacific coast beach and your Pier St. house
is now our favorite beach home! Clean,
comfortable, cozy with all of the amenities you
could want. Really appreciated the fenced back
yard and doggie door and the abundance of kitchen
ware to make hearty meals.
The rock shop across the street was great and the
owner fascinating to talk to.
We are already looking forward to our next relaxing
vacation at the house with family and pets!
The owners are fabulous to rent from and they keep
VERY nice rental homes both at Pier St and Gardenia
in Tierra del Mar. You won't be disappointed!

We have spent two weeks in this home, and we love it. It is very comfortable and clean. The queen beds upstairs are extremely comfortable, and the kids love the double bunk beds downstairs. The beach is just a short walk away, with no traffic or busy roads to cross. The back yard and covered back porch are great for our yellow lab. We really appreciate the large laundry room with plenty of space for hanging up wet things. This house is our "Home away from Home!"

-Karen, Pinedale, Wyoming

We had a great time at the Pier St. House. We love
the close proximity to the beach, the quiet of Tierra
Del Mar, and of course the house itself. It is very
comfortable and lends itself to groups big and
small. We have been here many times and in all
seasons and have always thought each time is
special. We will be back.
Thank you Suzy

I LOVE both of these homes. In fact since I found out about them (years ago now) they are the only place I will stay when I go to the beach. They are homey, comfy, sweet, GREAT location and full of things to do (beach nearby, books, games in house etc.) The kitchen is fully equipt so I can cook a mean meal if I so choose to! Often we opt for the meal in house as we do not wish to leave the house (except to go down to the beach of course)!!! That should say it all! My dog Gracie May LOVES it at both places altho she prefers the Pier St. home with the back yard...BUT the Guardinia house has the most AMAZING view and is a wonderful place to be as well..almost zen like. Either way you cannot lose for sure. Dealing with the owners is a wonderful experience as well. Susy is wonderful. The beach is my home away from home as often as I can afford to go and these places always FEEL like my home away from really does not get much better than that.
BEST RESTAURANT IN PACIFIC CITY...Los Corporales...get the garlic prawns...dear lord...also I feel like I am dining with friends here...worst restaurant experience was The Pelican Brew Pub (and their motel was not a great experience either)...GREAT VIEW and great beer so it is worth it to sip some suds and check out the sunset at Haystack Rock but really bad service and poor food for the top dollar they charge. I do not mind spending top dollar but they really were sub par at best, and I have gone there more than once to give it another shot. Other than that PC is a great great town and just right around the corner from the houses we rent!

homeowner-added comment:
I have been lucky to be at both the Pier Street home and Guardenia as well...Guardinia has the most amazing view from the bedroom...the pics you see on line are true but it does not even begin to do it justice as how it feels just "being there" and waking up to that blows the mind and then calms the soul...the deck is great and the home is beautiful and the fact that it is pet friendly makes a huge diff to me...very clean very homey very comfy very all that you want it all to be at the beach and have a home away from home. The owner Susy is great to work with and it all ends up feeling good. I go home a limp noodle as I am so happy and relaxed. I love the beach and have been at many places many many times (in northern California up to here- from Monterey Bay to Cannon Beach and then up to these homes in Tierra Del Mar) and this is by far the very best as far as good down home vibe.
Lucky me for sure.

We loved the view from the Master Bedroom. Beautiful... Just Beautiful. Thought the ice cream maker was also a nice homey touch! I have never made homemade ice cream, but I did when we stayed at Guardenia St. House. It was a hit! Thanks so much, Susy!

We recently discovered this wonderful getaway. This was our first time at the Pier Street house & Tierra Del Mar. I can say we will be back. Susy was wonderful to deal with & very helpful. The dogs loved being able to go out in the yard when they wanted being there is a dog door leading into the fenced yard. The facilities were excellent & clean. All you need to bring is food. The beds were very comfortable. Above my expectations but welcomed because of my bad back. The beach was great but we also discovered a long trail in the woods that parallels the beach just over the dune. Great for a Mt. Bike ride. During the weekdays the place was very quiet since very few people live there full time. We stayed in Feb. Overall a great place for a family vacation.

We absolutely love the Pier St. beach house! This
last trip was our third visit, and we are hoping to go
again very soon. The house is amazing, very clean
and cozy. The wood stove keeps the house nice and
toasty, and adds a lot of charm. It's a wonderful
getaway from the city, and is perfectly located close
to the beach. The doggies feel so at home and love
having a doggie door big enough to fit them! The
fenced back yard is definitely an added plus. Susy is
very nice to work with, and always responds quickly
to emails. Thank you for sharing your beautiful
home with us. Until next time! Sarah~

The Guardenia Street House was GREAT! The master bedroom was amazing and it did feel like we slept in the woods and woke up with the sun. The beach was just across the street and we could hear the ocean at night as we fell asleep. The location off the beaten path was great -- there were not a lot of people around on the beach or anywhere, but it was still close enough to Tillamook or Pacific City to allow us to get dinner or food to cook with it. The fireplace was awesome and we used it every night. WE were also able to go on a great bike ride. Thanks so much for sharing your great place with us!

-Kimberly S. Reid, Esq., Lacey, WA

This cabin is right across the street from a very deserted stretch of pristine beach and only a couple of miles from Pacific City, a cute town with great restaurants, gallery, store, etc... for necessities. The cabin itself is pretty basic, no frills, except for the master bedroom which is FABULOUS! Floor to ceiling windows, huge comfortable king bed and a walkout onto a great deck. The rate seems to be quite reasonable as well - peaceful place - I would definitely stay here again!

-Tami , Beavercreek, OR

We have enjoyed staying with you in both your Idyllic Beach houses; Pier Street and Guardenia. We enjoy and feel most comfortable in the Pier Street house. The house is warm, comfortable and just enjoyable. We especially enjoy the proximity to the beach, the balcony, and the weekend quiet. One of our favorite places.
Thank you, Susy

-Archie, Salem, OR

We returned to Guardenia Street because it offers such a warm, comfortable and relaxing location for us to unwind with our dogs. The weather was perfect and we spent hours outside, relaxing on the huge deck and watching the birds in the woods. The beach is just a short walk from the house and the house has everything we need for a delightful getaway. It's a treat to wake up to a view of the woods with the birds singing! We keep returning to Guardenia Street because it feels like a "home away from home." Thanks for making your lovely home available to us! We'll be back.

-Ita & Todd, Portland, OR

This was our second stay at the Guardinia Street House, and loved it......again! We love to wake up in the master bedroom surrounded by trees to set the mood for a relaxing day. The beach is wonderful because it is so big and gets little use. It is almost like having a private beach. The house was great, and only wish we could have stayed longer! Thanks for a great experience!

-Brett, Kasey, and Cecilia, Vancouver, WA

We have stayed in Susy's Guardenia St. House several times and this time decided to try the Pier St. house. The house was great for 3 adults and 2 kids. Loved the open space and the backyard. Beds were very comfy. Just remember to bring towels!!Thanks Susy, see you again soon..

-Sherri , Portland, OR

We stayed at the Guardenia Street House for the first time last week. It was our first time, and we had a wonderful visit. My parents (visiting from Ireland) loved waking up in the forest (the master bedroom), the kids loved having their own little bunkhouse, and our dog loved the long, secluded beach. The house was clean, comfortable, and had everything you might need; Susy was great to work with; and we can't wait to go back!

-Sam, Portland, OR

We had such a relaxing and fun time. I really needed some time to walk the beach and hang out with my husband and our dogs. The house is the perfect "beach house". Comfortable and homey, a block from the beach and nearby Pacific City which as another fantastic beach. I too loved the master bedroom. I can still close my eyes and be back waking up to the sun shining through the forest in the morning. We may try the Pier St. house next time, but we would definitely stay at Gardenia House again. The owner is easy to work with, and keeps it very nice.

The whole time we were there, we couldn't stop
exclaiming about how wonderful it was, and now
that we're home we can't shut up about how it was
the best vacation we've ever had. Of course, having
dogs along makes anything more fun, and Pier
Street House, with its nice little fenced yard and
gated mud room, makes bringing the dogs easy.

The kitchen was well-equipped--we cooked a lot
of the delicious local seafood and were even able to
make a blueberry pie (although we did use a beer
bottle from the Pelican Pub for a rolling pin!). Our
bad backs were grateful for the comfy beds, and we
loved being able to have a cozy fire one especially
cold night. The washer and dryer were a great
convenience. Susy was such a pleasant person to
deal with, and all the neighbors we met were lovely
as well.

In short, we had everything we needed and all in
the best location imaginable. Can't wait for next

I can truthfully say that we had an absolutely had a great time. The Pier Ave. house was everything that we could have hoped for. The weather cooperated. We put the kitchen to good along withe the BBQ. All in All everything was excellent. We would certainly reccommend it to anyone that asks.

Thanks Again

-Aden, Portland,OR

We had a great time at Pier st house. It's half a block from the beach and miles of sand for the dog to run - he had a ball!!
The house was very clean and beds were comfy. A well-stocked kitchen meant that we could cook ourselves rather than go out to eat. The rock shop opposite is also well-worth a look - polished rocks and jewellry mostly from sites in Oregon.
All in all, I highly recommend this house, especially for those with dogs.

-Kate, Portland, OR

I can't say enough good things about the Pier St. House. It is a few steps to the beach. The house is awesome for our family. We have 2 boys and a big ol' dog. The boys love the bunkroom. We love the upstairs master. I always sleep with the window open a bit so I can hear the crashing waves of the ocean. It is so peaceful. The woodstove heats the house nicely!
Love having the washer and dryer!
There's an abundunce of beach toys in the shed. The house is very clean. There's so much to do. Go see the lighthouse, the Octopus tree, climb the sand dune in Pacific City, see the tidepools, eat at the Pelican (go just before sunset,it is amazing),have breakfast at the Grateful Bread. Need some internet? Use the computer at Stimlus Cafe or the Pacific City library!
You will not be disappointed!! Susy's the best! This is our 6th year staying at either Pier or Gardenia, and it definitely won't be the last!

-Mia, West Linn,OR

We really enjoyed the home, it is very nice and plenty of room for six people. The beach was completely deserted in November, even though the weather was great. The house is very warm and relaxing with a lovely, well stocked kitchen. We travel quite a bit and generally rent homes from owners. This was definately one of the nicest places we have stayed at on the coast, we'll definately be back.

-Karl , Portland

We had a lovely time at your place! The beach was deserted and just gorgeous with all the sunny weather that we had. Our twin boys and our black lab just loved running on the sandy shores.

We also enjoyed seeing some of the years highest and lowest tides and relished the much needed 'disconnect' from the hustle and bustle of the holidays.

Thanks Susy! We'll be visiting again :D

-Rhonda, Portland, OR

The Pier Street House is a perfect spot for a retreat on a quiet section of the Oregon coast. The house is extremely well set up and the pet friendly option was nice as I brought my two dogs. We were there in November and it was very peaceful. We rarely saw anyone on the beach and there is so much to explore in the surrounding areas. Lincoln City has some nice restaurants, groceries, internet, good coffee... all the essentials if you need them and only a few miles away. I would recommend this house without hesitation.

We really enjoyed our stay at your lovely beach house. My husband rode the 104 mi. bike ride for "Reach the Beach" the weekend of May 14th and my family rented your home to support him and the cause and enjoyed a little break from it all. We were lucky enough to have beautiful weather too!The house was very comfortable, clean and quiet. Our 2 Boston Terriers felt right at home with the doggy door and fenced backyard. The short walk to the private beach was so enjoyable..having it all to ourselves. There is plenty to do in the area as well and we will definitely be back! Thanks again!

I stayed in this beach house last October 2009 and am embarrassed to say that it has taken me this long to sit down and put into words just how much I enjoyed it.
As a business owner for a dog daycare and boarding in Beaverton, I don't get out much due to time restraints. So when the time came for me to finally get a little R&R, I contacted Suzy to set up my time at the Pier Street House. This was my first time here and of course when you consider what type of job I do; I have my own dogs that needed to come with me for some fun beach and mommy time.
Suzy's place was everything I hoped it would be, clean, comfortable and very homey. The fenced back yard was perfect for those late night doggie potty breaks and I did not need to leash my dogs up and stand out in the rain with them, yea!
The weather was stormy for a fair amount of the 3 nights I spent here, but the woodstove kept us all cozy and warm and I could just feel my stress level drop with each day I stayed. My only regret is that I did not have the time to stay longer.
I may not be able to take many trips like this one for myself, but I will be back!
Thanks Suzy!

Our stay at the Pier Street House was really wonderful! We were there for 4 nights in July 2010 - 3 adults, 4 kids, and 2 (well behaved) dogs. The house gave us the perfect space to relax, play games, enjoy good food, and then relax some more. The utility room set up and fenced yard make it easy to include for family dog (a must for us). It's so close to the beach - and the beach is incredible! Not crowded, beautiful, and seemingly endless. We walked down the beach and over the dune for coffee in Pacific City each morning.

We'll definitely be back.

We absolutely loved our stay at the Guardenia House in Tierra Del Mar. It was like having a little piece of heaven for the week. We especially loved having such a quiet piece of the ocean away from all the more commercialized beach areas but yet close enough to these places to explore as well. This was the perfect place to vacation with our dogs - very quiet, private and a beautiful location as well as miles of ocean shore to walk and explore. Cape Kiwanda is magnificent and Tiera del Mar is a perfect location for photography lovers; every day brings new photo opportunities along the ocean with the changes in the environment. The Guardenia House was great; the master bedroom was especially awesome as it overlooks a beautiful huge deck and pathway into the forest where you can sit on a lovely bench and be able to listen to all the lovely birds singing.
The Guardenia House and Tiera del Mar is one of the Oregon Coast's best kept secrets.

10-10-2010: We just spent a wonderful weekend with our family at the Pier Street house. It is so close to the beach, which we thoroughly enjoyed. It is a beautiful beach and there were not many people. When it rained, we drove into Pacific City and enjoyed some of the shops, or stayed at the house and played games. My "grandogs" loved the place as well. I recommend Los Corporales for the excellent Mexican/seafood. Thank you Susy for being so easy to work with!

1-21-11: Our trip out to the coast was a mix of bitter and sweet. We learned a few weeks ago that our 5 year old Rotti has bone cancer, with only a short time left before we will lose him forever. I found this wonderful house in a pet magazine a few months ago. I contacted Susy to make arrangements to spend one last family vacation together. I can't even find enough words to say how warm and wonderful she is! I just knew that the house would have that same feeling! We arrived at night during a terrible storm and quickly got us all in and unpacked. The heat came on quickly and we soon snuggled up on the couches and cooked up dinner. Unfortunately, my "city boy" husband (and myself) couldn't get a good fire going, but the fireplace and living room are perfect to curl up to and read a good book. It rained terribly all weekend, which was just fine with us. We spent the whole time talking and snuggling with our baby boy. It was perfect! When we first got there and saw there was no cable (already knowing there was no wifi or cell service) we were a little disappointed, but quickly realized it was PERFECT and just what we needed! We are big movie watchers and discovered a bunch of good films in the cabinet. I happen to be a little older than my husband (by 10 years :) and we recently got married. Our entrance song to our reception was "Mrs. Robinson" from the graduate (although neither one of us had ever seen it), to our surprise it was there. We watched it and had a blast laughing. It was great! I wish I could say more about the area for new comers, but to be honest we didn't leave the house very much. A quick run to get lattes in the morning (Stimulus Cafe is great and the owner is so friendly!) and to the market a couple times, but that was all. The weather was pretty bad - but that just says how comfy the house was, since we had a great time! Susy and the house are just wonderful! Loved our weekend! It's hard to think of saying goodbye to our Rotti, but we have so many wonderful memories, especially last weekend! We THANK Susy for everything! We highly recommend her house to anyone with doggies!

2-17-11: Curious about the neighbor's concrete structure, and they not being home, I walked over to investigate. Rounding one of the shrubs in the drive, I came smack dab up against a deer who was grazing the grass pad on top of the structure. Not wishing to offend, but thoroughly taken by our proximity, I spoke to her while she fixed me with a rude stare. Not wishing to be inhospitable, I offered her the only thing I had, a dog treat. I spoke politely, offering her the treat, almost putting my hand to her mouth. Her notstrils flared. She scratched her flank. Taking one backward step, she took my measure. Continuing to speak, hoping to pass muster, I wondered how to both prolong this and fetch my husband. Finally, impatient with my continual nattering, she moved to the other end, took up her grazing, and dismissed me. I went to get my husband, but by the time I returned, she was gone. Did he doubt my veracity? We spent the next two mornings lying abed, hoping to be spectators at another spectacle of deer.

7-14-11: We had a wonderful and relaxing time at the Pier house! It was great being able to cook our meals in the large kitchen. As a dog owner, it was fantastic having a fenced yard for my dogs. We absoulutly plan on returning to the Pier house in the future.

9-19-11: Stayed here the two nights and could not have been more pleased. The property is great and the owner friendly. A block from the beach in the quiet woods. So beautiful. Will not forget this one! - David Beegle, Salem, OR

9-26-11: We just spent 12 days at the house, our second stay in 18 months. We encourage you to stay here if you are travelling with people you truly love and enjoy being around. It's a nice quiet, secluded place to enjoy each other and relax on the beach or hike and explore the three capes. For those needing more "action" (i.e. teenagers) you can drive a few miles south to Pacific City where there's lots of activities.

It's also an excellent place for foodies as there are lots of slow food producers in the area. We hope to make this escape an annual one for us.

If you want to escape from your crazy City life, then this is THE only place to stay on the Oregon Coast.

It's well worth the 5-hour drive from Seattle.

-Karen Therese, Seattle, WA

12-16-11: Susy has created a friendly and welcoming home for guests. We found it to be VERY tidy and cozy, with such a wide selection of books (from childrens selections, to mysteries and popular fiction, to Poe and classics!). There are also a lot of games, so check in with Susy before you pack yours! We LOVED that the TV is not the central part of the living room. We found ourselves visiting much more than have when the families shared a house with a big TV. The beach is a very plesant/short walk, and it's a really nice stretch of sand and water. We saw a baby seal, rabbits, deer, and even some sheep on the road. It was a great place, rain or shine (we were lucky enough to have both), and the house had everything we needed (thank you for extra blankets and pillows :)

We spent Thanksgiving there (two families) and the teen girls loved having their "own place" with the bunkhouse. I usually like to find new places for adventures, but we liked this home so much that we'll surely be back in spring or summer, so we can enjoy nearby kayaking and hiking. Thanks, to, to Suzy for making it all EASY!

-Anna , Portland, OR

9-6-11: Fantastic hidden gem of the Oregon coastline. Truly a place to immerse yourself in tranquility. Will definitely look forward to repeating the trip.

-Jerry T, Port Moody, BC

11-16-11: We had a GREAT time at the Pier Street House. This is our second stay and I have to say the beach cannot be beat! It's close, beautiful and private. The house is good for people and great for dogs. The dining table is spacious enough for 8 people to eat meals together and enjoy some games afterward. I will definitely rent again!!!

-Linda Flatt, Vancouver, WA

12-14-11: We just stayed at Pier St. House for 5 days (Dec. 2011) and as always, it was a wonderful, relaxing experience. We try to return every year. Had great weather- sunny and no wind, and had some good clam digging at nearby Whalen Island. Our young lab loves the doggie door and running for miles on the empty beach (we saw almost no one). The sun poured through all the S. windows making the living area very cheery, even in winter. The house was spotless and the kitchen is well equipped (unlike many rentals). The neigborhood is so quiet and the beach so close it is impossible not to relax!

-Margie Arighi, Oregon City, OR

1-4-12: On a whim my husband and I decided to make an attempt to spend New Years weekend on the Oregon Coast. Luckily there was a cancellation and we spent 3 nights at the Pier House. We had a wonderful time! The weather was incredible on Sunday, sunny and mid 60s, we spent most of the day on the beach. We walked all the way to where Pelican Brewery is, and ate baja style fish tacos from BJ's - they tasted like heaven. Reminded me of the kind I'd get growing up in San Diego. Beach access is very close, which made popping in and out easy. The house was very comfortable, we enjoyed the no-frills casual decor and especially the mud room for easy beach cleanup, also equipped with a doggy door. Was perfect with our 3 year old Weimaraner. We also enjoyed the wood stove - it really heat the place up and we didn't need to use the electric heating at all. We were able to fully relax and now feel rejuvenated from the weekend. Highly recommend! We will definitely remember this place for future stays. - Brianna

1/9/12: We rented both of these wonderful houses for a small family reunion over the winter holidays. Having both houses was wonderful. An easy short walk between the two. Guardenia was perfect for relaxing and reading around the big firplace. Pier was perfect for large group meals in the large spacious open kitchen. Both houses were warm and welcoming. Really felt like being at home. The large master in Guardenia is fantastic. Three sides of windows and sky lights It was a great place to be on a stormy windy night! Can't wait to return in the spring - can't imagine ever staying anywhere else on the coast again! Thanks you Susy for creating this little oasis.
Anonymous, Corvallis, Or

3-25-12: Upon entering the Pier St. House, we were immediately struck by how comfortable it looked. The open space design, loft-like bedrooms, over-stuffed furniture, lots of windows and well equipped kitchen declared: "Welcome home". The mud room and fenced back yard were put to good use by our wet dogs. The close proximity to the abundant recreational activities was icing on the cake. The Three Capes Loop is one of Oregon's best places to explore. And what's not to like about being less than a block from an uncluttered beach? Thank you, Susy, for providing such an impeccably well maintained house. You obviously understand how to make strangers feel appreciated.

3-11-12 - We had a great stay at the Pier House for my
birthday. Lots of friends and tons of good food
made it a weekend to remember, and we were
amazed how easily the house accommodated our
group. We did puzzles, walked on the beach with
our dog, made cozy fires, and commented on how
nice and dry and clean the place was; no damp
feeling that sometimes is found in coastal rentals.
Would love to come again in the future. It was a
little difficult with no cell signal as we had friends
coming from various directions and then had
various activities to coordinate throughout the
day, but Susie the host definitely was clear about
this before our stay so we did our best to think
ahead (or just live on relaxed coastal time). (:
Thanks Susie for keeping up a great house!

2-15-12: I've been coming to this great house for many years and consider it my home away from home. The house is very comfortable, the setting is beautiful and private, and the
beach has some fabulous birdwatching. - Tami, Portland OR

4-8-12: My daughter, grandson and two of his friends, from Sheridan, OR, spent 4 nights and 5 days, March 28 to April 1. Weather was lousy, but the boys enjoyed running to the beach anyway. The house is very cosy, especially with a fire in fireplace. So I was content to just sit there and read my book, and spending quality time with my daughter. An enjoyable time by all. - Shirley Briscoe, Olympia, WA

5/22/12: My two daughters, my three german shepherds and I stayed at Susy's Guardenia house the second week of May. We had almost perfect weather for a week on the coast, which is a miracle! We loved the nearby beach for running, playing and photographing. I got some stunning pictures of the early morning surf striking the beach! The house was perfect! Very clean, very much better than a motel. I have been wanting to come to Oregon and stay near the beach for 3 years, but having 3 spoiled german shepherds who will not eat unless I feed them presented a problem. Susy graciously allowed me to bring my dogs, who stay by my side whether I am indoors or outdoors. The accomodations were more than perfect, and a smile never left my face while I was there. I recommend this place to any who desire privacy, convenience, comfort...all at a reasonable price. Thank you, Susy.

Aug 31, 2012: My husband and I were looking for a quiet place to stay and to bring our dogs to the beach. The Pier Street house was ideal. Susy was responsive and clear in her communication and clearly supportive of dogs. The house is modest on the outside but the accomodations were clean and comfortable. We really felt at home. The kitchen was well-appointed and we especially loved the mud room where the dogs could dry off and where we could wash our clothes on the last day. We also loved listening to the ocean from the master bedroom and how quiet the neighborhood was. We will definitely be back and would gladly recommend the Pier House for dog-lovers and families alike. - Lisa

Sept 6, 2012: Our stay at the Pier St. house could not have been more perfect. Everything you could possibly need on your vacation, you will find at this house.
Best beach location and secure backyard for our dogs, made our stay just wonderful. - Isabel Gilda

12-6-13: We found this place very interesting due to the location particularly the quietness and so much of nature i.e. birds and small animals. It was comfortably furnished and homey. The fenced yard made it handy for our dogs. The nearness of the beach was a welcome convenience . We loved our stay. Chuck and Norma Pfeiffer

11-24-13: We spent this past Thanksgiving at the beach house and were very comfortable and pleased with the property. The short walk to the beach was awesome and the beach was absolutely beautiful. We could not have asked for better weather! The kitchen was well furnished so that we could make a complete Thanksgiving dinner to enjoy. My husband loved getting up and starting the wood stove each morning so we really appreciated having all that wood. The fenced backyard provided a secure place for our dogs, One late afternoon we did the Cape hike and what a spectacular hike that was. The views and scenary were well worth it. Thanks Susy for providing a wonderful home for us to enjoy. The Peters/ Steamboat Springs, Colorado

11-22-13: My husband and I had a great anniversary weekend at the Guardenia house in November. It is a lovely, private home tucked in the woods and only a short, easy walk to the beach. The master bedroom is huge and the kitchen is well stocked with dishes and necessities. We really enjoyed the fireplace which has a fan built into it that adds to the coziness (this was November after all). We didn't take any kids but the separate kids quarters with the bunkbeds looked really cute. We will definitely be back! Barbara Wier

11-14-13: This was our fourth time at the cabin, and we have enjoyed it every time. Looking forward to coming back next year. Very kid and pet friendly.Mark Parrish

10-29-13: We usually stay at the LaGuardia house, but that was booked so we stayed at the Pier Street House instead. Twas nice and quiet and well appointed. We were nice and cozy and had an amazing 4 out of 5 days of sun for lots of beach walks. Now we'll just have to decide which house to stay in on our next trip - they both have so much to offer! Karen Therese

10-24-13: This was a great home to rent for our family. It had such a safe access to the beach and the grandchildren could run to the sand and we had no worries, except for those "wild rabbits". What fun.

It was a perfect place to finally have a family vacation and it went perfectly. We just got the pictures back and I'm going to make copies for each family.

Thanks again for your perfection in renting. You made us very happy.

10-21-13: We had a wonderful time and the facilities were very comfortable and accommodating. The beach as clean and an easy walk to the end of the street. The rock shop across the street was very interesting. A short drive to the Pelican for dinner on the beach was great! Kathie Robison

10-17-13: Susy, we love this place. Now that we've been here twice, it feels like "our" place too. Humans and canines love it alike, and the beach is so fabulous, almost like our own private beach. Thank you for sharing! Selene Jaramillo

10-1-13: Lucky us!! We were able to spend a whole month at the Gardenia Street House. We visited most of Susy's suggested points of interest and we were glad we did. The house has everything and more that you would expect in a vacation rental home: huge selection of books, games, puzzles, well-equipped kitchen, fireplace, lovely large wraparound deck, lovely bedding and bedrooms, eclectic decoration, in other words WOW! We hope to visit again soon. Susy is a joy to work with. Marylu Perkin

9-21-13: Overall a great place to stay and I would very likely stay again. There are lots of notes and helpful hints throughout the house. Tons of games and books which were very helpful since it rained much of the time. Wifi was a nice bonus for me. Either someone dropped off trash or the previous tenant left a bag of trash out next to the bin, which was gotten into by the local animals. The owner promptly sent someone out to clean it up :) This is the reason for the 'C' under cleanliness. The house was otherwise clean. A couple of minor things especially for first time vacation renter like myself... Include the shed access code to washer/dryer to avoid a call. The communication does say bring towels. You might include hand towels, kitchen towels, wash cloths as I only thought to bring bath towels. And maybe also mention to bring toilet tissue to avoid a last minute trip to the store. Tracy Preston.

Thanks for the very nice review! I do really appreciate you taking in stride your first glimpse of the house with trash scattered about! Garbage left in a plastic bag and the local raccoons apparently led to predictable results! Cheers to our great housekeeper who dropped everything to drive over and clean it all up! Just for reference, the access code for the shed and washer/dryer is provided in the info sheet I send to the renters as well as on the info sheet posted by the kitchen door. We did also have extra toilet paper in the supply cabinet; so sorry for the extra trip to the store, I'm guessing in the rain - ick!

9-11-13: All went well at the house for my family. It is well stocked and convenient to the beach.
Who can control the weather?...It was very clam and no wind for several days....I took my own beach chairs down to the beach. And then it rained which made it nice to have access to WiFI. There is a large huckleberry bush on the front yard. It had a load of berries...(September).

9-8-13: I enjoyed the cottage and it was perfect for me and my dogs. Loved the mudroom and doggie door! The bed was very comfy and I slept great. I could hear the ocean with the windows open or when sitting outside on one of the decks. There are lots of books and games too! It's just a short stroll down to the beach. What a great beach! Didn't see very many people and there was plenty of sand to walk on even during high tide. Pacific City is just a short drive for fun and food and people watching. We drove up to Munson Falls and that was lovely as well. There is a state park nearby - Cape Lookout. Interesting drive past the sand dunes in the forest and up the hill to the rainforest and then down to the park. Nice picnic tables right on the ocean (day use fee of only $5). The weather was great and we had a really nice time.

9-5-13: September in Tierra del Mar is the best time of year - perfect weather, miles of beach and the lovely Pier Ave. house to relax in! We've stayed here before, but with all the recent upgrades it's better than ever. We spent time in Pacific City, then up the road to the Tillamook Cheese Factory and the Blue Heron Cheese Factory. Long walks on the beach were much appreciated by dogs and humans alike. It is very nice to have WiFi at the house - thanks so much for this bonus! We will certainly be back soon. Maybe a little storm watching is in order this winter. Ita Lindquist

8-13-13: Thank you Susy for the hospitality your home gave us. We loved staying here, it was quiet and secluded. It was charming the minute we pulled in. We hope to be guests again with our family in the future. The home reflected the generosity and creativeness of its owner. God Bless you and your home and thank you for all the memories. A piece of our heart was left in Tierra del Mar. Codi Lashyro

8-9-13: Susy thank you, we very much enjoyed our stay. You have a very nice house,
it has a country cottage feel to it. It was very nice of you to
stock it so full of nice games, dishes, appliances, etc... gave it a very homey, friendly feel. And
the beach was quite nice, very pretty and yet nobody there. Thanks for a nice vacation, we hope to
come back.

8-1-13: We had a great week on the coast. The house was clean and very well stocked. My grandmother ran a rooming house on Martha's Vineyard and she had two apartments with complete kitchens. I know how difficult it is to make sure renters have everything they could need.

It was perfect for the dogs and the laundry room was large enough to fit the kennels. As the beach was so close, dogs and people got plenty of walks on the beach.

I have two young children and everything worked for them too.

I enjoyed my stay and plan on coming back next year.

8-2-13: We just recently moved to Oregon from the East Coast and this was our first adventure for a weekend at the Oregon (West) Coast to celebrate our anniversary and husband's birthday! It was a great location - just a few blocks from a wonderful beach. The beach was clean, big, beautiful and almost our own (I think we only ran into 15 people the entire weekend and most were during a long beach walk to haystack rock (about 4 miles) near Pacific City and near a big sand dune. The house was clean, well appointed with games to keep our kids busy at night, movies for the blue-ray, etc. Our little Basenji dog loved it as well as she had her own little yard and doggie door and she finally decided she likes the beach too. I cannot say enough positive things, but to top it all off Susy is great to work with. She answered all our questions and guided you through the house and area with a suggestion of things to do, information about the workings of the house, and everything. We will definitely be back. Thank you Susy! (BTW I am sending a few pictures to you the kids made for you along with the other item.) Debra Wilensky

7-26-13: Our family of 6 had a wonderful vacation at the Guardenia Street House. It is spacious, clean, private, and well maintained. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes and appliances. The owner was very helpful, always available and responsive. There two bedrooms one very large and comfy and in the second one the bed was small for two people to sleep! We would definitely rent this property again - we enjoyed the trails and the beautiful Oregon Coast, which was very convenient.
We mailed back the key.

Thank you,

7-18-13: Wonderful place very close to the beach. Was very roomy and comfortable for our two families. the kids had a blast playing at the beach and we all enjoyed just hanging out in the very comfy living room and the different decks. the place was great for our dogs as well. it was so nice to have a yard to let them run in, and great access through the doggie door which they figured out in no time. would definitely stay here again. in fact we are looking forward to our next visit!

Glen Justice

7-9-13: This house was perfect - just the getaway we were looking for. We would love to come back again and stay longer next time. Probably won't be for a couple years as Pat's being posted to Ottawa for 2 years so we won't be back on the West coast for awhile. We will return once we're posted back to Victoria, BC again!

Pat Liscum and Debbie Lockhart

7-4-13: We spent 3 nights at the Guardenia House over the 4th of July. The house is located on a main street that lead into Pacific City but is nestled in a woodsy and forest like setting which allows one to forget about the other side and to fully immerse themselves in the quiet and natural scene. Beach access was super easy. Walk out the door, cross the main street and just a few steps before you are in the small quiet beach of Tierra del Mar. We were thankful to have a quiet beach without having to deal with the crowds at Cape Kiwanda.

The inside of the house was cozy with lot of seating, books and games for people of all ages. I discovered the comfort and relaxation of a La-z-boy recliner and decided I had been giving them an unfair rap all of this time. I liked it so much that I'm considering purchasing something similar with my yearly bonus next month. :)

We had come prepared with our own blender, pots and pans as well as various kitchen gadgets but there was no need as the kitchen was fully stocked! I've stayed in several { - } rentals and by far this place was the most thoughtfully organized and well stocked kitchen. (The ample selection of linens and blankets was much appreciated!)
The main bedroom was huge and surrounded by giant glass windows that had a beautiful view of the woods. It has a great big comfy bed, too. The wrap-around back deck was amazing. When we weren't at the beach or cooking, we were soaking up the sun on the deck with our dogs.

Susy, the owner was wonderful to work with. She was prompt and courteous in her correspondence and very flexible with our needs. My husband and I are already discussing our next return and debating between the Guardenia house or the Pier house.
Thank you Susy for a wonderful experience.Sul Baek

7-17-13: We had a fantastic stay at the Pier Streer House. My three children enjoyed the bunkbeds upstairs and playing games around the large dining table. When it was raining the games and books came in handy and enhanced family bonding time. When it was sunny we walked the dogs on the beach or visited Whalen Island where we took a beautiful nature walk. Most of the time we felt like we had the beach to ourselves and even on Whalen Island we didn't see anyone else the whole time we were there. Next time we hope to get the chance to go kayaking or horse back riding on the beach! Holly OBrien

5-13-13: What a great little house. Just the right amount of room for everyone to be together and so close to beach access! We did not have a chance to use the BBQ or fireplace this time around but we will definitely be back. Loved all the windows on the back master bedroom and the view of the forest was so relaxing. Meghann Austin

4-16-13: The place was great. We really enjoyed it, was our first trip with our new baby, and so nice to be able to bring our dogs along too. Benjamin Steinberg

4-6-13: We enjoyed staying at Idyllic Beach House in Tierra del mar Oregon. The house was surrounded by woods with the beach across the street. Although it rained most for the trip we still had a wonderful time. They had lots of board games and the children played nicely (not like at home). The kitchen is nicely stocked with all the cooking utensils ,pots, pans and dishes you could possibly need. The Master bedroom is wonderful Large with plenty of windows and a deck for your morning coffee. The beach was great and there was no one else on it. We flew kites and played frisbee. The dogs to labs had a wonderful time running the beach and chasing sea gulls. The house has Wifi but no cable which we did not mind as we were there to enjoy each other and connect with out the everyday distractions we have at home. The house was clean and well maintained and surrounded by woods which made it cozy and offered privacy. The beach is close and we had it to our self we flew kites and played fetch with our dogs. Thanks so much for sharing your house with us. Nena Roy

3-30-13: What a lovely, quiet neighborhood and wonderful house! Super cozy, fun to cook in and there were bunnies!! The beach was so close and the sound of it from our room was very soothing. The kids loved the bunk beds and we loved the long walks on a perfect, uncrowded beach. Thanks so much for the wonderful stay, we will be sure to come again. :) Jennifer and Kevin Scott

Owner comment: So glad you had fun. I just had to add this note that you had entered elsewhere; just made me smile... "Thanks again! We had a splendid holiday and Easter was really special with the bunnies hopping around. My girls named them Hopper, Jessie & Sandy. :) What fun! And the weather was glorious, absolutely magnificent."

Yes, we do have bunnies (wild) who really enjoy (yum) the native landscaping I've been so carefully nurturing - but it's worth it to watch them bopping around. Also lots of deer. When we put in a motion sensor driveway light last month, we couldn't figure out why the light kept turning on in the middle of the night every couple of hours or so. Finally went out and - voila - Bambi(s) giving us an aggrieved look as to why we were interrupting their munching... - Susy

3-29-13: Loved the Master bedroom/sitting room. Great place to sit in the morning with a cup of coffee.
Access to the beach was close although did have to cross highway 101 to get there. Lynn Hughes

Owner comment: Glad to hear you had a good time! Just to clarify though, Highway 101 is a good 10 miles from the house. The quiet rural road that you crossed to get to the beach is called "Sandlake Road," actually part of the "3 Capes Road Scenic Drive." The house faces backwards - away from the road - and opens onto the woods (shown in the main photo of the house). The back of the house does face the road, although it is set quite far back. Between the road and the "yard" are dense stands of shore pines, huckleberry, and other Oregon natives that essentially act as a 10- to 20-foot-high "shield." Through the kitchen window, you can see a sliver of the road if you look at just the right angle. This is the only place in the house (or anywhere on the property for that matter) that the road can be seen at all. Hope to see you in the future. Cheers - Susy.

3-22-13: Have rented from Susy several times now and always enjoy her houses. She maintains them well and is very accommodating. David Beegle

3-17-13: Thanks Susy for providing such a great house when we need a quick get-away to the beach. This trip was extra special because we brought Zee, our foster dog with epilepsy, to her knew home close by in Pacific City. It was really nice getting to spend our last night with her in such a dog friendly and relaxing place. She was at my side 24/7 due to her epilepsy and so it was especially hard for me to say goodbye. She has a new and wonderful forever home just right up the road. We spent the whole day at the beach with her new mommy and 4-legged big brother. We will definately be back to visit her and it is comforting knowing there is always a place for us to stay. See you soon!

Ashton & Travis

Ps. I love the updates to the house (especially the bathroom) since my last visit! :)

3-8-13: Once again, we had a lovely stay at the Pier Avenue house with our dogs. Susy continues to make improvements to the property (this time some updated lighting) and as always, provides patient and clear communication. This visit was in the off season and on our Sunday walk we saw not a soul for miles except an eagle and her young on the beach. If you are looking for a quiet place to stay, I highly recommend Susy's little slice of heaven. Lisa LaForge

2-18-13: One of our favorite coast houses - so homey and peaceful! Terrific beach and access- never crowded. Best equipped kitchen I've seen in a rental house- even has nice pots and lots of them! Lighting inside has been recently redone and is excellent. Margaret Arighi

2-15-13: great house, quiet neighborhood and very close to the beach, we had an excellent relaxing weekend, thanks! Joe Stevens

2-15-13: This is the best beach house rental I have found on the Oregon coast. The home is lovely and very comfortable. It is well appointed - the only thing we couldn't find was a corkscrew, so renters may want to pack one along. The deck and yard were a plus - we had one dry day, and we loved the outdoor space. The firewood was dry (a truly amazing thing at the beach!) and the fireplace worked beautifully. We loved this home and hope to visit again. Thanks, Susy, for sharing this jewel!

Visitors might want to check out the rock shop nearby - some amazing minerals and gems. Their collection of Oregon Sunstones was impressive, and they have some pretty (and affordable) jewelry. Sally Tebbet

2-12-13: We love coming to this house! It's in such a great location and I love cooking in the kitchen. The dogs have a blast too. Becky Engelquist

2-2-13: Superb getaway house that is 30 seconds from the beach. Susy, the owner, is very helpful and great to deal with. It is obvious that the owners put in a lot of efforts to make the house comfortable. The fenced backyard with covered patio was perfect for my dogs. The dinning table sat 8 adults and 2 children comfortably. I will definitely stay at the Pier house again.

Vancouver, BC

1-18-13: The Idyllic Beach House is just that. We have been to it twice this year in both January and September. It is located in perfect spot at the edge of forest, but only a block from the beach. The master bedroom is really large and looks out to the forest and has great skylights over the bed. The location is perfect for its quiet 4 miles of beach but only a few miles from Pacific City and its restaurants. We rented body boards and hit the waves there, and visited a lot of other great towns with easy day trips to Oceanside and its secret beach accessed through a tunnel, Tillamook and the cheese factory and air museum, Three light houses within an hour, and the Oregon Coast Aquarium. It was a perfect week, and Susy is a wonderful owner to deal with. Thanks Susy! David Robertson

1-10-13: This home was beautiful. The master bedroom has an incredible view into the woods, was nicely finished, and cozy even with the vaulted ceiling.

The decorations are all very tasteful and made us feel like we were in the most well furnished home on the coast. We truely appreciate the level of effort put into this home and would recommend it to anyone. Michael Bowen

9-29-12: AWESOME!! Had such a relaxing time at the house, on the beach and in Pacific City. Be sure to climb the Cape Kiwanda dune and look out for whales! We had awesome weather so we were able to enjoy the huge wrap around deck one afternoon. The master bedroom is huge, great space to wrap up in a blanket and read a good book. Plenty of kitchen ware - Susy has thought of everything. Very easy to reserve. I loved the kids bunk bed room which is like a camping adventure seperate from the house. Great getaway for a longer vacation or just a long weekend. Can't go wrong with this home. We hope to return soon!! Dina Girgenti-Lida

12-27-12: So relaxing with no TV or cell phone service. I do have to say that it was nice to have internet connection though. I appreciate that everything in the house works - and everything you could need is there. All we had to bring was the food, which we brought too much of as always. We loved the short walk to the quiet beach just a half block from the house. Very comfortable accommodations and clean. We loved it and will definitely come back! Debbie McNew

11-23-12: We stayed at the Guardenia house over Thanksgiving weekend and had a wonderful time! The property feels private, quiet and cozy, surrounded by trees and just a block from the sand. The living room is spacious and the layout lends itself perfectly for gathering around the fireplace or dining table. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed. We had 8 adults, and everyone found a comfortable place to sleep and plenty of blankets to keep warm (the master bedroom with wrap around porch is incredible!). We didn't have any kids, but I can see how the bunk house is a real treat for those families that do.
Susy was a pleasure to work with, answering any questions we had, staying reachable by phone the whole time, and made the reservation process super easy. We were also welcome to bring our dog (for no extra charge!) and the doggie gate blocking off the mud room made it so easy to clean him up after a run on the beach, and keep him safely inside the house while we went in and out.
We can't wait to come back again in the summer, or perhaps make this a Thanksgiving tradition! Aleksandra Rozga

10-22-12: We loved the location. Very close and easy access to a beautiful and uncrowded beach. Quiet and peaceful. Pacific City was just a short drive away. We had one meal at the Pelican Brew Pub, which was terrific. The house was cozy and comfortable and extremely well equipped. All we needed to bring was food, towels and our personal stuff. Everything else we needed and more was already there. We did buy some kindling in Pacific City, but firewood was kindly provided. The wi-fi was fast and worked perfectly. We streamed Netflix from our laptop and watched it on the flatscreen tv at night. We knew in advance there was no broadcast television. Not a problem for us. You can hear the ocean from the master bedroom--a lovely, relaxing way to be lulled to sleep. For us the fenced back yard and back door utility room entrance was the perfect setup. We really appreciated being able to bring our dogs. They had a wonderful time, and so did we. Melinda Glover

11-21-12: Thanks for letting us stay at your beautiful beach house. We had a blast! I love the beach. a rare section of sand on the Oregon coast. So close & really one of the nicer beaches on the OC. The master bedroom, wow! Don

10-24-12: The Pier Street beach house is perfect for a family vacation. It is just a short distance to the beach which was wonderful. The fenced back yard was great for our dog. We really enjoyed our stay and are looking forward to the next time! Sandy Panek

10-17-12: This was our third stay at Guardenia Street house in three years. We have spent five weeks here total and each one was wonderful! We've been in March, September and now October. All three visits have been amazing - the house is wonderful, this area of the Oregon coast is not bustling with tacky tourist shops (or tourists!). It's a great place to relax and spend time with people you love. And if you need a great meal, you can venture out to the nearby towns of Rockaway Beach, Pacific City, or Oceanside. There are plenty of places to walk in the woods around here too if you get tired of the beach (is that even possible?). And, if you come in the late fall, you can enjoy the wild huckleberries that grow all over the property.

We have come to think of this place as our home-away-from-home.

Lastly, Suzy, the owner, is wonderful! She's very accommodating and a pleasure to deal with.

You won't be disappointed if you stay here, but you probably will keep coming back.

Karen T. - Seattle, WA

10-2-12: A very nice home -- very comfortable! The kitchen has everything you might need to cook. The warm fireplace was delightful! Sheila Bonczek

9-21-12: We very much enoyed our stay. Great place for family gathering.

2-17-14: We celebrated our 12th anniversary and Valentines day at Guardenia House. Tierra Del Mar is a wonderful place to get away. It's a blink of an eye on the coast highway between Netarts and Pacific City. No TV, No cell service. No news. Just the most wonderful beach to walk and pet friendly. The house is filled with games, books, movies, total cooking items including sharp knives for easy food prep. Shopping just a few miles in either direction. And just in case you have make contact with the outside world (I don't know why) there is fast WiFi. Want to eat out? very good restaurants in Pacific City (los Caballeros) and Ocean Side (Roseannes). This is the easiest home to relax in with nothing the least bit pretentious just comfy. Cal Bertram

3/7/14: Our stay at the Pier Street house was ideal. The house is very clean yet comfortable with updated appliances and a very cozy wood burning stove. The backyard is nicely fenced in for the pooches and has a lovely covered deck. The beach is half a block away - is very easy to get to with great views of Cape Lookout to the north and Cape Kiwanda and Haystack Rock to the south. Pacific City and great beer at The Pelican are only minutes away.

Everything about the house was comfortable. We had a great sunny day for beach going and a stormy day for the fireplace, movies, and puzzles. The rooms are spacious and comfortable with plenty of blankets I'd you are like me and like to sleep with the windows open for that fresh ocean air. Cooking was a breeze with the new appliances.

Communication was made easy. Suzy is a quick communicator and provided clear information on everything from check in/out, directions, house info, and area attractions. This was so much easier and nicer than dealing with a rental company.

I look forward to my next stay! Thank you, Susy, for providing a relaxing beach home for my families spring beach vacation! Sarah M.

3/13/14 (Pier Street house): We loved staying at Susy's beach house. It's perfect for our family. I like how the kids room is next to the master bedroom. The layout of the home is great and very open. We had everything we needed. We will be back. Thank you! Mia C.

3/21/14 (Pier Street house): Comfortable, family-frirendly and dog-friendly home. Love the whimsical decor and well-equipped kitchen (Bosch dishwasher and Jenn-Air range made preparing and cleaning up meals easy). The securely fenced back yard was a great place to let our Labs out safely, and being just a block from the beach was great for all of us. Pier Street appears to be one of the nicer streets in Tierra del Mar, with some newly renovated places. Pacific City is just a few minutes away if you need anything, and there's lots to do locally. Genevieve.

7/17/15 (Guardenia Street house): The Guardenia house was a lovely place to stay in Tierra del Mar, Oregon. It is nestled in the trees which kept it cool while the temperature on the beach rose to an unbelievable 80 degrees. A quick walk to the beach access, made it extremely easy to watch the gorgeous sunsets. The kitchen is roomy and bright while well stocked with utensils, cookware, and appliances. IF there is something you need for your cooking, check with Susy before bringing it!
The beds were comfortable, even the bunkhouse beds! We were there to participate in the Labyrinth Network Northwest Labyrinth Festival (labyrinths were drawn on the beach). Jaimie

7/8/15 (Guardenia Street house): This house has the MOST AMAZING master bedroom, 18 windows looking out into the trees. This is how you should wake up when you are on vacation. The surf was perfect for boogie boarding while we were there. Great house, lots of seats for everyone to rest after a day spent in the ocean and on the beach. We loved it! Tammy.

6/28/15 (Guardenia Street house): Lovely getaway in quiet Tierra del Mar; we enjoyed exploring the coast from this house! Kids loved sleeping in the bunk house, lots of games and books to keep us busy when we weren't on the beach. Second bed was not great for 2 adults, but the bed in the master bedroom was huge! Ideal for one family, doable for 2. Sara.

6/13/15 (Guardenia Street house): We had a wonderful visit at this house and the beach. As soon as I saw the great big bedroom with the view into the forest, I knew I wanted to rent it, and it was exactly like in the photo. The house was comfortable, such a short walk to the beach, and a great place to relax. There were one or two small problems with the housekeeping but I'm sure they were one-time because there was a new housekeeper, and the owner was so responsive that I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. My only disappointment was I didn't see a bear. Darn! But we took lots of walks, went to Cape Lookout, and had a fun meal at the Pelican Brewery. Too bad we didn't have little kids or teens with us because the bunkhouse looked adorable. Susan R.

6/25/15 (Guardenia Street house): This is an A+ property, including the experience of communicating with Susy, the owner. Location is superb, just across the road from an excellent beach and a very short drive into Pacific City for meals or supplies. We visited several beaches along the coast, but ended up liking the one across the street from the house best.

The house is FANTASTIC! Susy has thought of every last thing her guests might need, and I've never seen a rental kitchen as well appointed as this one. We thoroughly enjoyed cooking some family meals, and everything we needed was there. I mentioned to Susy ahead of time that we wanted to use the ice cream maker, and she even had the bowl part of the machine waiting for us in the freezer, ready to go when we arrived.

Susy provides a great selection of books, movies and games, which kept our 5-year-old busy as a bee. While she preferred to sleep in the main house with us, she LOVED the bunk house! She loved using the cubbies to sort/store all of her things, and had so much fun playing and reading there.

The beds, pillows and furniture are all incredibly comfortable and we all slept great. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and we spent so much time sitting outside in the beautiful garden area between the house and the bunk house. We also spent time in the little sitting area in the miniature forest behind the house. One of the small things I really appreciated inside the house was all the lighting choices, including dimmer switches on many of the fixtures. Lighting is important to creating the mood you want, and Susy even had that covered! Truly, we never managed to think of a single thing we wished was done differently, or a single thing that was missing from our experience in this wonderful house--other than wishing it was cold enough for a fire in the fireplace, which would have been amazing!

Susy is a pure delight to deal with, which is the icing on a beautiful cake. You only have to talk with her once--and then see how the house is appointed--to know how much she cares about her guests. One way her care is shown is by the labeled cabinets and notes posted all over the house with information you might want. It's like Susy has anticipated what questions guests may have, and has proactively answered them by posting notes all around. An unexpected joy was reading through the years of guest book entries, which turned out to be a hilarious source of entertainment our first night in the house. Thanks for leaving those out, Susy!

In summary, I've stayed in lots of beach houses in my day, but this is hands down the nicest, most well appointed, most beautiful of them all. And the way Susy handles her business is top notch. You can't go wrong by choosing to rent this wonderful house. My wish is that every guest who is lucky enough to stay here takes the same great care of this house as Susy does. We loved our stay and so will you. Melissa S.

6/6/15 (Guardenia Street house): This is a wonderful house in a wonderful spot! Set in the woods one short block from the beach, the house has an amazing master bedroom, big windows and lots of skylights. It has a big, well stocked kitchen, and a lovely little kitchen patio, with a wrought-iron table and chairs, and a little arched gateway that is so pretty. There is an adorable little bunkhouse off this patio. The deck which stretches around three sides of the house has a nice bench all the way around. In the middle, there are some steps down leading to a path into the woods. At the end of the path there is a little alcove, with a wooden picnic table and four individual benches. Then to the side there are two Monet style benches. So CUTE! My husband enjoyed painting a watercolor of this idyllic view. Sunday of our visit was gorgeous, but cool and windy, so I was bundled up for our walk on the beach. Had sunscreen on my face and my big straw hat. But then as we walked toward the dune, it just made more sense to take my shoes off because of all the little streamlets running down toward the water. Made it to the dune, climbed the dune to the top and had a look out, climbed back down and walked all the way back barefoot. LOVED it. Such a great feeling. FORGOT that my feet had no sunscreen until toward evening they started to feel weird inside
my shoes. OH MY GOODNESS, you should see the burn! Ah, live and learn. We also loved seeing all the rabbits lining the walk to the beach each night to watch the sunset. Literally dozens of them. The last night we were there we saw a black bear crossing the road about 30 yards up from the houses. We also saw a sea lion frolicking in the waves. Such a happy place! The next day at the beach a women was playing with her two black labs. She was throwing little floating retrieving devices -- she had one for each dog. But the dogs didn't want their
own. They wanted the same one. We were laughing out loud watching these two dogs carrying the same stick with their muzzles side by side as they swam and scrambled in the surf. So much fun. If you get a chance to go here, take it! Jane D.

6/5/15 (Pier Street house): What a splendid weekend at the beach! It was the ideal escape from the city heat and we enjoyed hours of walks, loads of bird life and sunny yet pleasantly cool conditions. As always the Pier Ave. house was so comfortable - love the new TV and it's great to have WiFi. Everything was shipshape when we arrived. We did some birdwatching on the back deck, too. Wish we could have stayed longer, but we hope to return in September. Thank you! Ita L.

5/18/15 (Guardenia Street house): This was the second stay at the Guardenia House for us. We enjoyed it so much the first time, we returned six months later. Our second stay was even better than the first. Good weather helped, but the house is what makes for a great vacation. It is the most relaxing pleasant place we have stayed on any coast. The owner has thought of everything, making the three days we were there pleasant and carefree. There are books, DVD's, games, WiFi, free telephone service, a complete kitchen, and much more. The place is very clean, well appointed, and comfortable. The back deck is great, a peaceful and beautiful structure. A short distance away is an outside table and bench. You can go there for lunch and listen to the birds.

The beach is a short walk away. You do have to cross the main road, but that was never a problem for us and our dog. Yes, this is dog friendly and he had the time of his life. The beach is almost private feeling. There were no more than four or five people within sight during out time. We were there Monday through Thursday, so I can't speak to weekend use, but I bet it is light. The beach is clean, perfect for walking and wading, and beautiful in all directions.

Food service is in Pacific City only 3 miles away. The owner has menus in a notebook. She also has a Things to Do notebook the helps make the vacation fun filled. This is part of the 3 capes drive and Cape Lookout and Mares are a short drive away to the north, and Cape Kiwanda to the south. Perfect location. The neighbors are quiet and friendly.

I'd like to keep this house secret, in a way, but must report that it's a terrific vacation home. Roger H.

5/9/15 (Pier Street house): My mother and I went here for Mother's Day. It's a cozy house, we had everything we needed. Susy's directions were clear and everything as described. Really nice little place for a getaway with the beach just down the street. Pacific City is 10 minutes away and there are plenty of places nearby for hiking and beach activities. Carly S.

4/23/15 (Guardenia Street house): Wonderful!! Our stay here was very relaxing and enjoyable. The house was clean, cozy and backed up to a beautiful forest space. The master bedroom was our favorite part! It was like being in a cabin all to ourselves. The location to the beach was an easy walk and wonderful for our Fur person(Dog)! Pacific city and Cloverdale are very small but the people are friendly. The rental process was very organized and the owner was very kind and made sure it was a great visit for us. If you are looking for a wonderful, easy time away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is a great place to rent! Carrie O.

4/18/15 (Pier Street house): Great place - will definitely come back. Loved how close it was to the beach without being too close! Had everything we needed and was nice and quiet. Donna B.

4/5/15 (Guardenia Street house): What a fantastic place! It was so quiet and cozy. We loved the fireplace, the easy walk to the beach, the rain on the roof. It was perfect! Thanks for making it such an easy place to feel at home while away from home. Katie H.

4/3/15 (Pier Street house): If you decide to rent this house you will be in for a real treat! The house gives you many comforts of home with lots of peace and quiet if you so choose. The beach is unspeakably beautiful and nearly empty of the public. It is so long that we never made it to either end. We will return one day. Worth every dollar spent! Molly G.

3/29/15 (Pier Street house): The house is on a quiet, private street, and is extremely near a very nice and expansive beach. With the windows open, you can hear the waves crash. The house is very comfortable, and worked very well for the five adults, two toddlers and a greyhound dog, who was extremely tempted by the rabbits that roam the neighborhood. The house isn't terribly luxurious, but it has more than you need to make a very nice time away from where ever. Brett R.

3/21/15 (Pier Street house); Wonderful property. Great location and a very short walk to the beach. The yard worked out great for our dog. The owner's communication was very helpful. Greg R.

3/20/15 (Guardenia Street house): We spent three days during spring break 2015 at the Guardenia St. House and enjoyed every minute of it. Although the weather was changeable we took several, well timed, walks on the beach. The evenings were cool so the fireplace was quite welcome and we spent a lot of time lounging on the couches in front of the fire. Everything we needed in the kitchen was provided. It was great to just relax while the wind blew in the trees. Sierra R.

3/3/15 (Guardenia Street house): This house is PERFECT! It's nestled up into the woods but only a block away from the beach. You can still hear the ocean from your bedroom. All rooms had skylights which allowed for viewing the full moon rising and passing over the house as we snuggled in for the night. The fire place was my favorite part of the house. I can't provide enough praise for how comfortable and convenient this setting was. I will be back often! Thank you Susy! Sarah M.

2/8/15 (Guardenia Street house): A very comfortable house. Has the feel of a home rather than a rental. Nice spacious fully stocked kitchen made mealtime easy and low stress. Couches and chairs in living room are super comfy and invite one to snuggle down with a good book for the afternoon. Excellent Wi-Fi. Short walk to a beautiful beach. Short drive to trail leading to Cape Lookout (recommended!). Despite being close to the main thoroughfare the road noise is not noticeable at all. Beds were all comfy....and the windows/skylights in the master bedroom gives one the feeling of sleeping outside! Only drawback is a single bathroom/toilet means lots of coordination among guests. Excellent stay! Michael B.

1/4/15 (Pier Street house): We return to Pier St. every year- it is a home away from home where we and the dog can truly relax, and so roomy that we can invite friends and relatives. The beach is just a few houses away and is one of the nicest and quietest stretches I've seen, framed by spectacular capes at either end. I like walking N. a couple of miles to the Sand Lake
entrance. You can go in one direction on a trail through the woods if you want- the access to the trail is from the beach just beyond the last house to the N.. After entering the access, take the first trail to the left.
The neighborhood is so quiet- we see more bunnies than people much to the delight of our dog! Margie A.

10/23/14 (Pier Street house): Very big house for the 3 of us, plus our dog, everything worked; really was a nice haven from the storms.
There was plenty of cut wood and the fire-stove made it cozy.
Really is a very short walk to the beach that worked out in the mornings for us and our dog.
Internet WiFi worked, but seemed to be a little slow if you wanted to stream a Netflix; but your at the beach to get away from that sort of thing. Otherwise good for checking email, since cell phone service isn't good for Verizon there, but you can go down to the beach and get a cell phone signal there. Eugene F.

10/16/14 (Pier Street house): The Pier Street House was just the getaway that we needed. It was very clean, well-stocked, and cozy. The dog-friendly nature of the house was a huge plus. Susy replied promptly with any questions or concerns that we had setting up the rental and provided us with ample information regarding the house, surroundings, and directions to the house and local attractions.

We will be back soon! Daniel N.

10/6/14 (Pier Street house): We had a wonderful time at your Pier Street beach house! It is cozy and comfortable (NOT to be interpreted as "shabby") and has everything a person could need. The beach is fabulous and not crowded and we loved watching the bunnies-as did our dogs!! You have a great thing going there and we will definitely be back. Mary M.

10/5/14 (Guardenia Street house): My wife and I, along with a little Brittany dog, absolutely enjoyed our stay at the Guardenia Street house. It is capable of housing many more people, but was warm and cozy just for the three of us. The Owner has thought of everything, it seems, even small extras that really make for a pleasant stay. The house is right next to the main road, but it is lightly traveled and didn't bother us. We did have to cross it and walk a block to the beach, but again, this wasn't a negative. The house is well appointed and very clean. There are books and videos and many extras to make your spare time pass by nicely. The master bedroom is huge and is almost a house within itself. It is cozy and looks out the back towards the beautiful wooded forest. There is a large wood deck surrounding two sides of the house and it is a perfect place to sit and read, or meditate. The layout of the house is good and comfortable. We will stay there again, I'm sure. Roger H.

9/16/14 (Guardenia Street house): We wanted to find a relaxing place to enjoy our Anniversary, one that would take our fur-kids and we found it, thanks Suzy. Most places won't take dogs the size of our babies or their breed, so I want you (Suzy) to know how very much we appreciate you accepting our "kids" into your home. We all had a great time. Found it very cozy, quiet and tranquil, would definitely recommend your rental to anybody, as a matter of fact, we already have. Love how the house backs to the forest and that you can hear the waves crashing, so peaceful. Hope to make it to the coast again before too long and when we do we will contact you for reservations. Thank you!!!! Brook N.

9/12/14 (Guardenia Street house): My family and I recently stayed at the Guardenia Street house and we had a blast! The location of the house in the trees was awesome and very quiet. The time we spent in the house was comfortable and we were able to keep entertained at night by building the fun puzzles that were at the house. (We found some of the mystery pieces Susy haha) You could hear the ocean when outside. The walk to the beach was not bad at all. Just right across the street. The beach was quiet and enjoyable. We were able to take a lot of walks and see some seals and seabirds. When the tide was high the waves were incredible and thundering. It was basically just us on the beach most of the time and very funny that there was chaos on the other side of Cape Kiwanda with all of the surfers and beach goers. I highly recommend this property if you are looking for a quiet escape where you can enjoy the forest of Oregon as well as the beach without the craziness of the bigger beach towns. Lindsay N.

9/10/14 (Pier Street house): September is the most wonderful time to visit Tierra del Mar! We had miles of open beach, blue skies and terrific weather. The Pier Street house was better than ever - new futon, new reclining sofa (so comfy) and a fully equipped kitchen. It was home-away-from-home. We are always grateful to be able to bring our dogs along, a golden retriever and Labrador retriever. It was especially poignant this year: our black Lab has lymphoma and this was likely his last beach trip. He bounced around like a puppy and enjoyed his (short) walks to the beach so much. We will be back, of course! This is a great base for activities in and around Pacific City, too. Ita L.

7/17/14 (Guardenia Street house): We love this house! Its our second time in this house and it doesn't disappoint. Its great for dogs and nice to be able to bring along our furry friends. The TV upgrade was a nice touch. It was very comfortable and we very much enjoyed the deck and sitting around the living room when we weren't at the beach, which is just a short walk away. We will definitely return! Glen J.

7/4/14 (Pier Street house): Another great stay in Tierra Del Mar! As always, the house was comfortable, clean, and well stocked with household items to make our stay easy. It is apparent that the home is well maintained and cared for, which does make the house feel welcoming and comfortable. We appreciate knowing that we can show up and relax because there's not much to worry about. Reservations are easy, and communication was great (as always). We love being close to Pacific City, but also having a much less crowded beach steps away for just relaxing. It is a wonderful home to stay in at the beach, and definitely recommend staying here! Thanks again for another great vacation!!! Brett F.

7/2/14 (Guardenia Street house): Great location (only one block to the beach) and lots of space for families looking to rent. Our family of four was more than comfortable, and we didn't even use the bunk house. The master bedroom is the best part; you feel like you are waking up in the forest. The kitchen was also very clean and well stocked. Lisa D.

6/22/14 (Pier Street house): Thank you for our lovely vacation, we really enjoyed our stay in your house. We will miss sitting at the dining table watching deer walk down the street in the evening and bunnies eating breakfast. The short walk to the beach was really convenient, especially with an infant. The securely fenced backyard worked really well for our dogs. There aren't a lot of places that cater to the needs of a family with an infant and two dogs, but your house worked great for us. Cassandra S.

6/15/14 (Pier Street house): Dear Susy, we had a wonderful time at your Pier St house! If there was space in the schedule we would have extended our stay. Our family found much peace, relaxation and togetherness and the beach is awesome! We are hoping to return soon. Thank you so much for providing such a wonderful house. Lilian K & family

5/8/14 (Guardenia Street house): Very nice getaway. House very lovely and clean. Love the rain forest view from the bedroom, very peaceful. Everything available for a group large or small :) Elise W.

5/1/14 (Guardenia Street house): We booked the house as a birthday surprise for my mother-in-law and it was a huge success. Our group contained people ranging in age from 5-70 and everyone thought the house was great. Our dogs appreciated the easy access to the beach ensuring frequent frolics in the surf. The neighborhood is super quiet as there are only residences and no businesses, but it's only 20 or 30 minutes drive south of Tillamook, and Pacific City is just a couple of miles down the road or the beach (five minute drive on the road or 30 or 40 minutes walking on the beach). The rental process was great and we were already talking about when we'd like to return before we even started packing to head home.
Josh from Portland

4/10/14 (Guardenia Street house): We enjoyed our time at the Guardenia Street house! It was so nice to have a place where we could bring the dogs and our children. The set up of the house worked great for us - everything was in the kitchen that we needed and there were even puzzles and books for our little ones. The beach was just a short walk away and very beautiful. We are looking forward to our next trip back! Betsy B.

4/4/14 (Guardenia Street house): It was a great escape for us and our two dogs. TONS of room, kitchen is stocked with pots, pans, dishes, etc that you may need. Just bring food, charcoal and you're set. BBQ or cook inside if you need. Fireplace was great too, being able to come in from the cold beach and warm in front of the fire. Very relaxing and quiet. I loved the view from the master bedroom, TONS of windows to see the woods and watch the rain fall. Thank you Susy for renting out this place, you can tell it has tons of love in it. Steve T.

4/3/14 (Pier Street house): Susy, thank you so much for having this wonderful property! We felt that we had a home away from home. It was very clean. All the dishes and the well-equipped kitchen was a joy to have. The quiet surroundings was so peaceful to the body and spirit. Anyone that we happened to run into was very welcoming and friendly. Despite the fact that I was not feeling very well, we had an awesome mini vacation. The dogs had such a wonderful time and enjoyed snoozing in their beds without the sounds of traffic and other noises from the city. We relaxed and enjoyed not having work demands and ringing phones. The beach was fantastic!! We haven't seen our dogs have so much fun in an long time. We would love to visit again and even try out the Gardenia House next time. Thank you so much for having this property available. We would recommend it to anyone we know.
Ron & Marion

3/27/14 (Pier Street house): We had a wonderful time at the Pier Street house. Tierra Del Mar is such a beautiful beach and so quiet. We practically had it all to ourselves. Cape Kiwanda is a very short drive to the south, we hiked up the big hill, took in the view, explored the tide pools and our son and his friend walked back to the house via the beach. So beautiful. Also loved spending time in the trails just north of the house. So many shades of green this time of year. The house is so cozy and fully equipped with everything we needed. Thank you Susy! We will be back I'm sure. Christine F.

3/25/14 (Guardenia Street house): We enjoyed good beach options at/near Tierra Del Mar, especially the Kiwanda dunes! The house is idyllic, just as described, with plenty of extras from kitchen gear to games and such. Fireplace worked well also. Brian S.

July 20, 2015 (Guardenia Street House): Super grateful for our time at Tierra del Mar. All ideas of what this 4 day getaway in Oregon were above and beyond what we had envisioned! Easily walking down the lane from your Guardenia house and over the little dune and glimpsing the beachfront was like stepping into a dream! You were a pleasure to do business with from start to finish, Susy. You left no detail unaccounted for. Full bang for the buck! From the perfectly stocked kitchen ( it has everything and then some! ) to the extra linens, blankets, to the garden herbs which made it into my cooking, to the nice array of books and games, the drying rack and even hose outside to wash off sandy feet and messy dog, we were WELL provided for at the Guardenia house! The 5 of us and our golden retriever were able to thoroughly relax and enjoy all aspects of the gorgeous beachfront and of your comfy, cozy home. The pride of ownership and your obvious love and respect of 'dogs and their humans' as you so aptly put it, has made this an inviting vacation to both plan for and enjoy while there. Truly, truly recommend this to others seeking an ideal Oregon beachtime with or without kids or dog. Hope we can be back next year! Thank you! Lindy, Marco, Clara, Anika, Luke and Shadow the happy golden retriever!

July 21, 2015: We had five in our party, including an 87 year old grandma! The Pier House worked great for all of us. It was clean and well appointed. We ate half our meals in, which went very smoothly due to the appropriate dishes and appliances; and the other half out, because we could not pass up all the yummy place to eat in the area. We played games on the huge dinning table with plenty of seating and elbow space ( often a problem for our group ). One individual brought a few movies and enjoyed the TV.
Our walks on the beach were a bit cold, but I guess we cannot blame that on the home owners! We did buy some spring salad mix to feed to the neighborhood rabbits, and that brought great joy to us all. Thank you for a lovely stay, The Goodpasture Party

July 25, 2015: We really had a great stay at the Guardenia Street house. The location to the beach was excellent. We brought with us our 13 year old son and his 13 year old friend. They spent most days boogie boarding with stuff we rented from Moment's Surf Company. My son wasn't too bothered by the 57 degree water but his friend needed the wet suit and together they had a blast. The house is very quiet. Even though it is right on the main street, you don't even notice it because you are tucked in nicely among the trees. The master bedroom is very spacious and comfortable. And while the number of windows (I think my son counted 40) made us nervous about what the sun coming up in the morning would be like, the trees block the majority of that so it was a very pleasant and comfortable experience. There is an extensive library of books, movies and games to keep everyone occupied. I enjoyed reading two books on the beach that week. No TV, but with the wifi and all of us bringing our technology with us, we didn't miss out on anything. We were even able to connect our iPad to the TV monitor via our own HDMI cable we brought and watch HBO and Netflix. It sort of forces you to actually be on vacation and not let the noise of the world invade your dreams. We went to the beach everyday. It was a short walk down Guardenia, and we would drive our truck to the end, drop off the beach stuff (chairs, boogie boards, towels etc...) and then one of us would drive the truck back to the house and walk to the beach. It was nicer than having to walk with arms full of stuff but it was a short enough walk that it wasn't a big deal to drop off the truck and walk back. The boys stayed in the bunkhouse. It was a bit stuffy when they first got into it, but once they opened the windows and aired it out it was a nice place for them to have to themselves and feel like they were in a college dorm on their own. No Wifi coverage out there for them so they really couldn't stay up all night watching videos on their iphones or laptops, but they were exhausted from their daily wave fighting so staying up wasn't an option anyway. We cooked all meals except 4 in the kitchen which was a great money saver for us. And we didn't have any problems with finding stuff to use except for a pitcher for lemonade. We did improvise with a tea pot but other than that, we had everything we needed. Having to bring our own beach and bath towels was a bit of an inconvenience only in that we had to pack enough for 4 people. But it wasn't that bad and with the washer and dryer on the premises it was easy to clean off the beach everyday.
Overall it was a great trip and a great house. This was our first visit to Tierra Del Mar. We had no idea of the close proximity to Pacific City and Cape Kiwanda and actually the boys preferred to hang out at "our" beach instead of the more populated ones there. They felt our waves were bigger. We'll be back. Thanks again Suzy for hosting us in your house.

Owner comments... Such a nice review. So glad you had a good time. Just wanted to clarify about WiFi though. We do have free high-speed internet/WiFi that you are welcome to use. Cheers - Susy

August 9, 2015 (Pier Street house): What a perfect getaway! So quiet and close to the beach, we will definitely be visiting again.

August 29, 2015 (Guardenia Street house): The master bedroom is heaven on earth and was truly a magical place to experience. We want to live there!!!!!!

9-11-15 (Pier Street house): Great house, very clean. Would recommend to anyone. See the Rock man across the street. He has wonderful things to see and buy and he is very nice!

9-16-15 (Guardenia Street house): We loved the Guardenia House! The house itself is gorgeous and spacious, particularly the master bedroom. The kitchen is well-equipped, there are laundry machines, and we made good use of the impressive selection of board games. The beautiful beach is a short walk away, and Pacific City is only about a 5 minute drive to the south. To the north, you get stunning scenery, wineries, and the Tillamook cheese factory. Overall, highly recommended, and we would definitely come back.

September 20, 2015 (Guardenia Street house): We just spent a week at Susy Wolfson's cabin on Guardenia Street in Tierra del Mar. What a great place for a beach vacation. The master bedroom is amazing.......lots of big windows that look out into the woods and provide tons of light even on a gray day. There are books and games for those times you might like to just sit and relax. The beach is long and most of the time we had it all to ourselves. Our Golden Retriever, Annie, was in heaven chasing balls and running on that beach. The town of Pacific City offers lots of good places to eat if you don't want to spend your vacation cooking. We recommend the Pelican Brew Pub for the food and view. The Mexican restaurant in town had really good food as well. Oh, and don't miss out on the Grateful Bread Bakery. Really good pastry and breakfast. If you want to go sightseeing there are lots of places both north and south of Tierra del Mar that are fun to visit. We highly recommend the Tillamook Cheese Factory for great and inexpensive lunches and of course their ice cream! If you feel like a day trip, we recommend traveling south to Newport and visiting the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Awesome! I spent the first 50 years of my life living in Oregon and visiting the coast on a regular basis and have been away from Oregon for about 16 years so we can't visit as often as we would like. Lots of things have changed and most of the bigger beach towns have grown a lot and there are way more people than I remember. However, we found that Tierra del Mar/Pacific City still has that funky little beach town vibe. The cabin isn't fancy but it is cozy and comfortable and it's like visiting in someone's home. In our opinion that's exactly the kind of beach house that is perfect for a week at the beach.

September 22, 2015 (Pier Street house): Great place. Close to a beautiful beach. Lots of things to do in the area. The house is comfortable and has anything you could need. We will definitely stay here again. - Kim

9-26-15 (Pier Street house): Thanks Susy for yet another wonderful coast vacation! Three friends, three horses and two dogs took advantage of the Monsoon Special for a long weekend getaway... It just couldn't have been more perfect. Gorgeous weather sans monsoons...pristine with all the perfect touches to make it feel like home, only better. The horses settled in immediately at Crazy A's Horse Hotel just a few miles away. We walked and rode on the beach every day, splashed in the waves, cooked great meals, played games, slept blissfully. We stood outside and watched the sky and the ocean change color. We ate a huge breakfast at the Grateful Bread (of course!). Sam and Eddy the mini-dogs loved the backyard, the seagulls and the Beach Bunnies (AKA actual rabbits who hopped away just out of reach!). One afternoon we rode all the way south to the Cape and surprised a sea lion who then kept popping up to look at us from between waves. Can't wait to come back!

10-1-15 (Guardenia Street house): We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Guardenia St. house! We were able to find all the things we needed to be comfortable, cook our favorite things in the kitchen, and feel at home. We decided we'd like to take the back bedroom and deck home with us! We'll definitely come back again. Don

November 12, 2015 (Pier Street house): For my husband and I's 4th wedding anniversary, we chose to visit the Oregon Coast. Susy was very helpful with every aspect of booking our time as well as going out of her way to suggest the Pier Street house for the convenience of our dogs that we would be bringing. In the same vein of dogs, she was very considerate of one of our three that is diabetic and waved the 2 dog maximum policy. It's good people that create good experiences, and this was no exception. The beach was breathtaking and the home was comfortable and aided in the feeling of vacation being a "relaxing" time (like it's supposed to be!). We will be back again, that's a promise! Thank you for sharing your home with strangers! Krystal

12-26-15 (Pier Street house): A wonderful house for a quiet beach retreat. We loved walking on the beach and took advantage of the bakery & restaurants in nearby Pacific City. The house was clean, comfortable, and the kitchen was so well stocked. We would definitely recommend this house to couples, families, or groups of friends looking for a relaxing beach vacation! Sarah

12-30-2015 (Guardenia Street house): We really enjoyed this home, four nights in December/ January. The weather was clear and cold, and the fireplace was wonderful. We had great access to the beach, everything worked in the home the way it was supposed to. They have a great selection of books, I would guess around 250 titles. The master bedroom is huge, with windows all around, and two skylights in the ceiling, to lay and watch the stars on clear winter nights. Wayne & Jeanette

1-8-2015 (Pier Street house): We found this wonderful place close to the beach while looking for a quick getaway for the weekend. We were pleasantly surprised by the affordable price and the location. We were expecting to pay an exorbitant amount of money and found this treasure literally a few yards from the beach in a quiet part of the scenic Oregon coast. The house was spacious, clean and the easy beach access makes for some exciting treasure hunting. The town, Tierra Del Mar, is a quaint beach community within driving distance of boutique shops, fun restaurants, and scenic attractions that are perfect for the family. They are dog friendly and even provide an outdoor fenced space for you to sit with your dog and have breakfast or coffee. Susy was incredible to work with and made the experience worthwhile. We, and our goldens, look forward to returning. Jean

1-15-2016 (Pier Street house): We had a great time at the Pier Street house! Only a few houses from the beach, it allowed us to take many trips during the day to catch a sunbreak, skip a downpour, grab lunch, etc. We were two families: 4 adults, 3 kids, 1 dog. A perfect fit for the house! The kids bunk room worked great and allowed the kids to get to bed slightly away from the main living room. The kitchen was well-equipped (I think the appliances are nicer than my own!), and the wood stove really heated the house up well! It was nice to crack the windows at night and hear the waves and get a fresh breeze. The gated laundry room and doggie door were perfect for our dog, though all he really cared about was the beach. It was his first time, and the beach is empty enough that we didn't have to worry too much about him running away forever. We had really temperate weather for January; I can only imagine how great it will be in the summer! We'll head back here for sure. Also, the gem shop across the street was a big hit with the kids. Jenifer

2-29-2016 (Pier Street house): Great House & wonderful location. Everything you need to have a terrific getaway. Gigi

March 4, 2016 (Guardenia Street house): We enjoyed our stay at the Guardenia Street house. The house was very comfortable, afforded easy beach access to miles of quiet beach, and worked well for us and our 2 dogs. Having a full kitchen was very convenient and it was a nice surprise that the grill turned out to be a Weber kettle meant for charcoal (always provides better flavor than gas grilling). The house is set up for a relaxing stay and includes games and some DVDs if you're waiting out a storm. For music the WiFi enabled us to stream Pandora. Altogether, the house exceeded our expectations and provided a enjoyable getaway location. Thanks! Mark.

3-12-2016 (Pier Street house): We have returned to the Pier Ave. house on many occasions for its comfort, amenities and location near the beach in Tierra del Mar. This visit coincided with some of the most spectacular storm-watching ever! The wind, waves and rain all made it memorable. The waves were crashing over the top of Cape Kiwanda. When we weren't admiring the surf and storms, we were comfy and cozy in the beach house. Had some great birdwatching during breaks in the weather. So great to have reliable WiFi - we caught up on House of Cards and Bosch. It was a great break and we hope to return in late summer. Ita

3-18-2016 (Pier Street house): We had an absolutely wonderful time at the Pier Avenue house. We loved the layout of the house, and the location was perfect. We were close enough to Tillamook and Lincoln City to take a couple of day trips, but Tierra Del Mar and its beach were quiet and out of the way and we spent most of our time there, especially on the beach. Being March, there was some rain, so we also had some time to play games, put together a puzzle, read, and just hang out together. Our dog was in heaven--she had never been to an ocean beach before and LOVED it. (She was happily exhausted by the end of each day.) The whole set-up was extremely dog friendly. There were eight of us, including three teenagers, so the one bathroom was challenging, but we made it work. Grandma and Grandpa (in their eighties) came with us--Grandpa never made all the way down to the beach, as he has knee and hip trouble and there is a hill of sand between the house and the beach that was difficult for him to navigate. All in all, we couldn't imagine a better place to vacation and we very much hope to return to this house. Stephanie

4-18-2016 (Guardenia Street house): Full disclosure- my wife and I love the Oregon Coast and are especially fond of Cannon Beach but let's face it, 3 nights in a hotel and 3+ days of meals at the restaurants is equivalent to a monthly mortgage payment. Plus factor in the crowds, potential noisy hotel neighbors and the fact many won't accept our 4 legged babies- Enter the Guardenia Street house!

Only 1 short block from an amazing ocean with literally a handful of people and you have our new vacation destination. The ocean is clean, big waves, and few people.

The house was spacious, clean, and had everything we needed. A Thriftway grocery store is only a few miles away for anything you forgot (The fried chicken from the deli is recommended) as well as a couple restaurants when you want something different. We made most meals at the house and the fully stocked kitchen had everything we needed.

Susy was easy to deal with and had everything in the house labeled for ease of use and provided lists of local attractions and fun things to do. She also didn't bat an eye when we asked if our 150lb (well behaved) St. Bernard would be allowed to join us!

Thank you for letting us into your home- we will be back sooner than later to take advantage of another "Monsoon" special.

Andrew, Karyn, Beasley and Ava Dog.

4-21-2015 (Pier Street house): This is a wonderful refuge from life in the city! We had the entire beach to ourselves and the house is set up perfectly for your four-footed friends! Amy

5-5-2016 (Pier Street house): Pier Street House is a well furnished, well located home that is comfortable and pleasant to stay in! The kitchen is especially well furnished--any cook would enjoy using it! The beach is very near and feels like a private beach. We had a delightful time! Wanda

5-9-2016 (Pier Street house): Get location - loved the quiet beach. House great for our family with all the rooms. Nice having access to fenced yard for our dog and the laundry room for him to dry off in. Enjoyed getting to relax. We'd do it again! Karen
