Home Sweet Home

October 24, 2016

Your home is absolutely breathtaking... Inside and Out, could/would stay forever.... The decor was beautifully designed, and flowed from one room to the other. Loved the secluded area, the jungle (rain forest), and the music of the frogs. Felt like a local and enjoyed the town...... I can not say one negative thing about the house or our stay on the island, except did not want to leave!!!

Great Family Vacation

May 6, 2016

We stayed at this perfect vacation house for 3 weeks, there where 4 adults and lots of room for us all. It is setup well and was perfect for our needs, enjoyed the air conditioning in the master bedroom in the basement. The hot tub was great on those rainy days. We would get up every morning and have breakfast on the lanai, and then decide where to go each day. Then pack our lunch and sightsee and snorkel some of the most beautiful spots around the island, my favorite was Kapoho tide pools and the drive there along the Government road. We would get home every evening BBQ dinner, sit on the lanai drink some wine and listen to the coqui frogs LOVED them! I would recommend this home to anyone wanting to visit the big island of Hawaii.

Owner Supplied Testimonials

We were traveling with another couple and we just cannot say enough about this lovely rental. Everything was just perfect we were so glad to have found this place. Denny & Laurie have thought about everything and then some. The home is well laid out, VERY clean and tastefully decorated. There is not one negative thing we can say about this place. The rental price was reasonable for everything that the home has to offer. We received so much more than staying in a hotel for less than half the price! We plan on returning to the Big Isle for a future vacation and when we do we will be staying here. Thank you Laurie & Denny for making our lodging during our vacation such a pleasurable experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How far is Volcano National Park from the rental home?
A: Volcano National park is an easy drive on a paved highway and takes about 60 minutes. There are many little towns along the way should you wish to stop and eat or do some shopping or just browse.
Volcano National Park - Is a large park and you can spend a portion of your day exploring the volcano, lava tubes, steam vents tropical folliage and more. They have a nice visitors center located not far from the entrance of the park which they also also offer guided tours at various locations in the park. Jaggar Museum is located at the Volcano viewing area which is very informative. Volcano National Park Address - 1 Crater Rim Drive Hawaii National Park, HI 96718. Park is open 24 hours a day year-round, including ALL holidays.
On your way to the Volcano is Akatsuka Orchid Gardens 11-3051 Volcano Road, Volcano, HI 96785 and are open Daily 9:30am - 5:00pm HST. They have a showroom of beautiful orchids of various speciies around the world and many you can purchase and have shipped home or to another destination. If you like orchids/beautiful flowers it is worth the stop.
About a 15 minute drive past the park is Punaluu County Beach Park which is a black sand beach. You can swim and on most days Sea turtles will be resting along the beach area. There are public restrooms and pinic tables for your use also in one section of the park. Punaluu County Beach Park - 96-876 Government Rd, Pahala, HI 96777
Q: Where can we go swimming and/or snorkeling?
A: About a 15 minute scenic drive either by paved highway or you can take the lush jungle route along the ocean front (not all paved) is Ahalanui Park it is a county park and known by locals as the "Thermal Pond". Here you can swim in a geothermal heated manmade large pond which connects to the ocean (about the temp of a bathtub) in a beautiful park like setting. Park hours are: 7 days a week 9:30AM–5:00PM.
On your way to the thermal pond are the Kapoho Tide Pools which offers a unique and fantastic experience, the best on the Hilo side of things. We also believe that this is one of the best snorkeling areas in the world, when you have a sunny day.
Past the thermal ponds about a mile there is Isaac Hale Beach Park - 13-101 Kalapana Kapoho Beach Rd, Pāhoa, HI 96778. This county park is knows by the locals as "Pohoiki". The park offers nice restrooms, camping area, swimming, surfing, boogy boarding, BBQ's, picnic tables. It is a favorite park for locals and visitors.
Past Issaac hale beach is a beautiful drive on a paved road that follows the ocean through some beautiful forest. MacKenzie State Park is along the way which offers a beautiful park like setting along the ocean front, picnic tables, BBQ's and public restrooms. Further past MacKenzie State Park follow the road to the end where the small town of Kalapana is located. In 1990, lava from Kilauea volcano engulfed Kalapana, a historic Hawaiian fishing village and residential area, as well as the famous black sand beach at Kaimu. Pele, the volcano goddess, also destroyed Hawaii’s oldest heiau (temple), two subdivisions and several miles of public highway. No lives were lost, but 182 homes were swallowed by lava. Today there’s an entirely new coastline here with a few poignant traces of the town that once thrived here. A visit to Kalapana is a sobering reminder of the raw power of Pele.
Q: Where is the closet place that offers grocery shopping, dining and gasoline?
A: The town of Pahoa is only about 5 miles away and offers all of the above. There is old town Pahoa and new town Pahoa. old town has many different ethnic restaurants Tia, Italian, Mexican, Hawaiian, Asian a few different American type such as Pizza and Mom and Pop café’s and various little souvenir and gift shops. New town has a Small grocery store, a few gasoline stations, Long Drug store, Burger King, Subway, Ace Hardware and a few other eating and other local stores.

“Da Store” is a smaller local grocery store is and is located only a couple miles from the rental Has basics and a some more but tends to be a little bit more costly compared to the stores in Pahoa.
Q: What other local/scenic attractions are close by?
A: The East side of the island has the most tropical foliage then any other part of the island. There are multiple waterfalls, botanical gardens, various beaches and tropical jungles to venture and see all within a few feet to a half hour drive. The rental home itself is located in a lush tropical area of the island. We do get more rain but usually during the night time and days are nice and sunny. Hawaii is called Paradise for a reason. :)
Q: How do we gain access to the rental home when we arrive?
A: A couple weeks prior to arrival guests will be sent via email (PDF format) our Aloha Welcome packet this packet contains directions to home, lock box codes, various this and that's about the rental home itself, local area dining shopping and attractions. This packet helps you to plan your daily activities during your stay and also provides information about the home so that when you walk in you feel as you are home from the moment you arrive.
Q: Are there any age restrictions on the home or hot-tub?
A: The rental is a large 2 story split level home that does have stairs between upper and lower level because of this we feel the home is not suitable for children under the age of 6 due to safety reasons. The rental is set up more for adult travelers thus the Tiki-bar and Hot-tub.

The hot-tub does have an age restriction due to our insurance carrier requirements. Guest who have children under the age of 12 we cannot have the hot-tub functional during your stay.

HOT-TUB is not available at any time during the Summer season June through end of October. The daily temperature in Hawaii is slightly warmer during the Summer season thus we never really had guests wanting to use during this time period to warrant keeping up the maintenance and in operation. The thermal pond is just a short drive and is absolutely fabulous and is a favorite spot for both locals and visitors all season long!
