Description of the Paris vacation apartment rental
The Chapon apartment is located in the third arrondissement, the heart of the Marais. On the second floor (third American floors with very easy stairs) of a typical 17th century building, this 76 sq meters, non smoking, apartment features a large living room with traditional "poutres" (original ceiling beams) and light stone walls.
Antique furnishings are combined with modern conveniences providing for luxurious surroundings. The rooms are bright and airy with traditional tall double windows ( 3 in the living room overlook the quiet street, one in the bedroom, one in the office and one in the kitchen overlooking the large courtyard.
"Chapon" was recently renovated and redesigned to retain the beauty of the 17th century style with the convenience of today. There is a working fireplace, a fully equipped modern kitchen , a master bedroom, a guest bedroom/office and a full bathroom with shower and bath and separate WC. Carefully selected furnishings create a space that is aesthetically pleasing, comfortable and practical.

* Hotel de Ville

History of Le Marais: The Third and Fourth arrondissements comprise the area known as Le Marais. Drained by monks in the 13th century, Le Marais ("swamp") was reclaimed to provide building space for the Right Bank.

With Henry IV's construction of Place des Vosges at the beginning of the 17th century, the area became the city's center of fashionable living. Leading architects and sculptors of the period designed elegant mansions and hotel particuliers with large courtyards and rear gardens.

Under Louis XV, the center of Parisian life moved to the faubourg St-Honore and St-Germain, and construction in Le Marais ceased. In the 1960s, Le Marais was declared an historic neighborhood and a thirty-year period of gentrification drew trendy boutiques, cafes, and museums to the district. The area's narrow streets, nevertheless, retain the stamp of a medieval village. If you go to the nearby Museum de Carnavalet you will probably find your street on an ancient model of the City...showing how little the neighbourhood has changed in hundreds of years.

The apartment is a short walk to Chatelet les Halles and Beaubourg. You can walk to Notre Dame in less than 15 minutes so long as you don't get drawn into the cafes and boutiques along the way!
