Description from owner
If you are looking for a place to escape and get back to nature with family and friends, we offer our three-bedroom mountain cabin. The unpaved lane from the main road deadends just past the cabin in the Moshannon State Forest providing access to nearly 200,000 acres of wooded mountain wilderness.
Situated on eight private acres, deer, turkey, fox and an occasional bear have been known to make their way past the Lodge. With luck, the creatures may decide to mosey through the yard during your stay.
Cedarwood Lodge is a charming post-and-beam cabin with a screened-in porch, small deck, picnic table, gas grill and campfire pit. Firewood is supplied for the indoor wood burner and for starting the pit fire. Guests are asked to gather firewood from the surrounding forest to keep the campfire blazing great for roasting hotdogs, marshmallows, and telling ghost stories. Our "Dark Skies" make star-gazing around the campfire a favorite activity.
Cedarwood is designed to be a getaway with comfort - the cabin has air conditioning, telephones, TV for playing DVD/VCR videos (no TV reception or internet access) and a fully-equipped kitchen with microwave, toaster, coffee maker, refrigerator, dishwasher and gas stove/oven. Bed and bathroom linens are provided, as are dishes, silverware, utensils, pots, pans and pantry basics such as coffee, tea, sugar, flour, salt, pepper and a few spices. For a final touch, we place our own homemade bread and muffins or coffee cake at the cabin for the first morning's breakfast. Guests renting the property only need to bring food and clothing. For reservations of seven nights and longer, housekeeping is provided weekly.
The cabin has beds for six in its three bedrooms: the loft bedroom has a queen bed, two bedrooms are on the first floor - one has a double bed, the other has bunk beds. There is space in the loft for setting up a queen-air bed (which is stored in the loft closet) or sleeping bags. The dining table seats 10 easily. There is one full bath with tub and shower.
The Cedarwood Lodge is a popular place to hold small family reunions or to use as a base camp to explore the natural surroundings for which the Pennsylvania Wilds is famous. Nearby Parker Dam and S.B. Elliott State Parks offer boating and swimming in Parker Lake in the summer, and snowmobiling and cross country skiing in the winter. Hiking is also popular in the state forest and at the parks, as is fishing for trout, large mouth bass, sunfish and brown bullhead.
Beds: 1 Queen Bed, 1 Double Bed, 2 Twin Beds

Owner Supplied Testimonials
My husband and I spent two wonderful nights at Cedarwood. We were so pleased with how charming the Lodge was with the adorable accomodations.
Everything was very clean and tidy. Peggy does a great job stocking the kitchen, even leaving little treats to nibble on during the stay! I appreciated all of the notes explaining how to take care of the Lodge while we were there....from how to get wood for the fire pit to how to find a great place to get groceries/ supplies.
The locatation is just perfect-completely secluded. We enjoyed the area by biking, hiking, and making the drive to Benezette to watch the elk.
For dinner, we went to Luigi's in Dubois which is always personal favorite! Such a great, refreshing, and relaxing weekend! We can't wait to go back.
A friend and I stayed here (with my dog) mostly on a whim. The owner was very accommodating despite my last-minute reservation and uncertain time of arrival.
The place was warm and clean, and there were delicious muffins and bread waiting for us. It is not so much a cabin in a rustic sense, as it is very tidy and comfortable through and through, but the location - along with the optional use of the wood stove - give it a nice cabin feel.
There are hiking trails right out the door whenever you want to explore far from the highway, and there are a couple of very nice parks within a ten minute drive.
A group of friends and I stayed at the cabin for a weekend and it was a great experience. The cabin felt like home. It was very clean and cozy! I definitely plan on making another trip out there during the summer!
My wife and I were celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary and we decided to get out of the city and stay the weekend at Cedarwood Lodge.
We had a few ideas to choose from but boy did we make the right decision! The cabin was awesome. It was very peaceful, beautiful, quiet and scenic which was a great escape from the chaos of city-life here in Pittsburgh. It gave us exactly what we needed... Time to ourselves to reflect back over 10+ years together with no interuption, no kids (sorry guys), no internet & no phones ringing off the hook. We simply focused on one another and had a beautiful moment in time at a beautiful place.
Peggy is, hands down, one of the best hosts we ever had the pleasure of booking from. She is a "real person"...someone who is caring, hospitable and who cares about the comfort of her guests. When u call her, SHE answers and not a robotic or automated system that keeps u waiting on hold forever.
Along with the wonderful cabin itself and the beautiful forest surrounding it, Peggy also gave us many suggestions to take advantage of while we were up there. We went to Parker Dam, Bilgers Rocks and the Elk visitor center. But it was her recommendation to eat at Moenas for an anniversary dinner that really hit the nail on the head. What a night with my wife....
We will always remember this trip. It might sound trivial to others but to us, it was and always will be, a time to cherish forever. And we have the many pictures to prove it. Thanks Peggy!
Our children were part of the Region 22 Championship for the World Tang Soo Do Association. We're from the Pittsburgh Area and with 3 kids our goal was to find a more private place to stay instead of a hotel. This place was perfect. We loved our stay! The breads provided were delicious! The kids loved the upstairs room - it was like a tree house! We would definitely love to come back sometime - maybe kid-free - lol. Thank your for such great hospitality. God bless you and yours.
We are currently touring the States with a children's theatre show ("The Snail & The Whale!") and your lovely little cabin has provided a welcome respite from the endless run of faceless, soul-less hotel rooms! Despite the very wet weather we have spent a lovely day off enjoying the wood stove, home-cooking, Boggle and a 1000 piece jigsaw, all underscored by some classic rock on the radio! Thank you for the delicious bread and muffins and for helping us get some wonderful peace and quiet. Now maybe just time to finish this game of chess before bed....
Two 1,000 piece puzzles,
Three Antiques bought,
Four Dinners cooked,
Five Miles hiked,
Six Movies watched,
Twenty-one Elk sighted,
Thirty Games played,
Total: Excellent Getaway Thank you for the great stay, we enjoyed the breads!
My parents and I had a wonderful weekend at the cabin! Even though the weather was cold, we enjoyed spending each evening in front of the wood burner watching the fire. The large dining table was perfect for us to spread out our dinner and breakfast and chat.
On Saturday we took a drive into Benezette to see the elk. After a slow and unsuccessful morning of seeing no wildlife, we were thrilled to end the day by seeing a total of 84 elk, 4 of which were full grown bulls with MASSIVE antlers! We also saw 8 deer and 6-7 turkeys (there is some debate over the #) haha.
Of all the cabins we have been to that do not supply anything, we were amazed at everything you had for us to use. It made the stay much more enjoyable! Next time we'll be able to pack much lighter!
We also wanted to thank you for all the homemade baked goods. They were delicious and were eaten quickly. If our schedules work out again, we hope to be back next year around this same time. Thank you.
Very good times always. Cabin was clean and cozy. Went dirt bike riding in the Allegheny woods. Visited Parker Dam to attend the Snake Throwing Contest. Took a night ride and saw a BIG FOOT-like creature???? Treats were great! Thanks - will be back next year!
We drove 4 1/2 hours to "get away" for our family time. Everyone had a wonderful time. The cabin was comfortable and cozy. We enjoyed the campfire each night. Spent our days climbing @ Bilger's Rocks and seeing the elk. Saw 12 elk, 5 of them a stones throw away. Stopped @ Benezette Wines on the ride home. Husband and I enjoyed a bottle of Blackberry Port by the fire while our children, ages 2 1/2 and 6 roasted marshmallows. Plan on canoeing prior to heading home today.
The PA Wilds is truly a beautiful area; a gem of Pennsylvania. My husband was admiring the trout streams.
Thank you for the homemade breads, it was a sweet gesture!
