Description from manager

PRIVATE STRUCTURE. Torre di Paciano stands at 492m above sea level, dominating the amazing natural scenery of this area between Tuscany and Umbria, which stretches from the magnificent, well-kept garden, with its effulgent vegetation, to embrace the plain that extends in front, with Lake Trasimeno in the foreground, and then to end up on a corollary of numerous small villages that surround the property; at night, seen from the poolside or from the highest point of the tower, they form an alluring constellation of lights. Its walls narrate a thousand-year old story: the Torre di Paciano, part of the old Castle of Paciano Vecchio, was originally a watchtower located strategically along the historic route that connected Perugia to Chiusi and, over the years, was subjected to many, documented dominations. Today, linked to an 18th century building which forms the central nucleus of the house, it is an historic, old-style residence suitable as a country retreat, with a collection of antique furniture and impressive chandeliers that dominate the high ceilings and spacious living areas on the ground floor and which fit in perfectly with the architectural style of the building, which is completed by a dear little consecrated chapel, suitable for wedding ceremonies. In the park surrounding the house is a large lawn for children to play on, set up areas for alfresco dining with a large barbecue and various seats in antique stone, shaded by old oaks and surrounded by the scents of the undergrowth. The property stands just outside the tiny borgo of Paciano, in a quiet, discreet location even though it is less than a kilometre from the village. From here, short and easy trips will take you to all the major towns in Umbria (Perugia, Orvieto, Todi, Assisi) and Tuscany (Montepulciano, Cortona, Pienza, Siena): a unique full immersion in a land rich in history, art and culinary traditions, that will satisfy the eyes and palate of curious, enthusiastic travellers.

Additional amenities include: baby cot, sky decoder with card, iron and ironing board, american coffee machine, fans in the bedrooms, mosquito screens in the bedrooms and in the kitchen, complimentary toiletries, hairdryer, moka.

About the area

An ideal geographical location for exploring two of the most beautiful regions of Italy, seductive Tuscany and Umbria, known as the green heart of Italy for its magnificent nature: rivers, oases and reserves, waterfalls and lakes alternating with beautiful cities of art. A few kilometres away, in this area between the two regions, are Città della Pieve, Lake Trasimeno and Castiglione del Lago, Todi and Orvieto, Cortona, Perugia, Montepulciano, Pienza and other beautiful places to visit as well as the famous spas in the magnificent towns of Chianciano Terme and San Casciano dei Bagni. Surrounded by the green hills of the province of Perugia, the property is located about one kilometre from the town of Paciano (a reference point, along with Panicale, which is about 2 km away, for shops and services), a historic and picturesque borgo, ranked among I Borghi più belli d'Italia (The most beautiful Villages in Italy), perched on a spur of Mount Pietrarvella at 391m above sea level. Its medieval origins can be seen in the sturdy walls that surround the old town centre and in the towers and narrow alleyways which offer glimpses of the beautiful panorama. Many are the monuments and places of interes, both inside and outside the town, including: the Clock Tower, the majestic entrance gate, the 11th century church of Santa Maria and many other historical churches dotted around the territory. The whole area is very well served by road links and the airports of Perugia, Florence or Pisa are within easy reach. The main A1 motorway exits are Chiusi (18 km) for those coming from the north and Fabro (30 km) for those coming from the south. The railway station of Chiusi, with direct connections to Florence and Rome, is 13km from the property.
