Nice Cabin Overall - Some maintenance needed

November 27, 2012

We had a pleasureable time in Bear Necessities over the Thanksgiving Holiday. The cabin is spacious and has plenty of accomodations for a large family if necessary. The biggest complaint we had was that there were several "maintenance" items that needed attention along with some of the "extras" that were not taken care of. We paid a premium price for the Holiday weekend and for that sum of money, expected a little more. The shower in the top floor was spraying water everywhere and needed to be replaced. We replaced a rubber o-ring and tightened down to get through the weekend. The refrigerator sometimes makes ice and sometimes not but when it does, it also leaks water into the refrigerated area soaking all of the food, etc. We had to clean that up 4 times in 5 days. The sink in the basement leaks water under the cabinet and got some of the items we placed there wet. We placed paper towels there to help soak up. The toilet tank in the basement is way under-sized which will plug up if any toilet paper is placed in it and flushed. We could not use it very much. The electronic fireplace in the basement did not "light up" and there were no instructions for it. We finally pulled open a lower "vent" and were able to get the fan to run but no "fire" to speak of. The DVD player in the family room was not hooked up or even routed to the TV (maybe because they had just replaed the TV). We had to take it to the basement and hook it up there. The TV upstairs does not work (very old) and the cable box has some of the connections in the rear torn out of it rendering the "game room" useless from that ascpect. The TV in the master bedroom is also very dated and did not work upon arrival (just snow). After we rerouted some of the cables, it finally came on but a terrible picture. A cabin of this magnitude should have better electronic equipment after all. The front "key code" door lock is tight a little and caused the battery to "give-out" one night while we were out. Some of the exterior light bulbs need replacing and the fans did not work. Overall a very nice cabin but needs some attention especially for the cost.

Wonderful Family Vacation

September 4, 2012

We stayed two weeks at this wonderful home, and our family of six had a great time. Lucky did a great job of addressing any of the concerns we had (especially when the raccoon opened the back porch door and got into our trash!) and made repairs quickly on the couple of minor things that needed fixing. It takes 10 minutes to get from the house to the main strip in Pigeon Forge, and although the roads are very twisty, they are all paved and lined. The house was very nice and decorated (even in August!) just like the pictures on-line. The only difference between the on-line pictures and "real" life was that the house is now completely surrounded by mature trees and landscaping- making it almost impossible to see any of the surrounding cabins. The complete wrap around porch provides amazing views of the "smoky mountains", and there are ample outdoor rockers and swings on the porch to enjoy the views. Our main disappointment with the home was that although the home accommodates many more guests than our six, the "living" space rooms did not have enough seats to let us all sit together comfortably. To most people, the TVs would be very small, but since our family doesn't spend much time watching TV, that wasn't a big deal to us. We did find that (without SmartPhones!) it was a little difficult to locate public WiFi in Pigeon Forge for our family to check email since the home doesn't have it- but found we could easily survive without it. There were two things noticeably absent in the home, though- no clocks in any of the bedrooms and no hairdryer. We bought clocks for the rooms after we got there, and, fortunately, I had grabbed my hairdryer on the way out the door. Lucky did provide starter supplies of toilet paper, bathroom toiletries (ie: shampoo, conditioner, lotions, and soap), and dishwasher soap. The washing machine/dryer is stacking and very small, but it worked just fine. Our family really enjoyed the friendly competition the pool table provided. We also got plenty of exercise going up the walkway to the cabin! Although we didn't spend much time just sitting around the "cabin" (there are tons of things to do in the area!), the time we were in the home was very relaxing and comfortable. We really felt that not only was the home just what we hoped it would be, Lucky treated us as we hoped we would be treated. What a wonderful vacation for our family!
