Aloha! What a great getaway! Our families (6 adults, 1 child) met for a vacation in Kauai in honor of our parents 50th wedding anniversary. The house is located on the island's south shore in the town of Po`ipū. This was a great location for us as there were close beaches, restaurants and markets. We did day trips to the west and north shores and also visited Allerton Gardens (Wonderful tour! Take bug spray to the gardens.). We saw seals and turtles, had fun snorkeling, giggled at chickens and relaxed on amazing beaches.

The house was great! The tall ceilings and picture windows overlooking the ocean present a magnificent view! If you look to the right from the main lanai you can see Spouting Horn. If you look to the left there is a small beach (several minutes walking distance). The lanai was the perfect spot on early mornings--and sunsets were spectacular. The house was very comfortable for our families, and the main floor open gathering area that opens to the kitchen was a great place to relax! The pool was the perfect late afternoon spot after a day of sightseeing. The bedroom on the main floor has it's own porch, and the lower bedrooms open up to the pool area.

When researching to book this home, we read reviews and looked at many options. Gale was quick to respond and helped us coordinate the best dates. Once we had set up the booking, Gale sent us information on keys and access. This has been a good experience for us, and I would recommend it to others. Mahalo!

The perfect place to stay. : Valarie

We have just returned from a fabulous 12 day trip to Kauai and we are so glad we stayed at Hale Hokuu TOO (2 adults, 2 teenagers). The house is beautiful, spacious and very comfortable and relaxing. Check out the art work - most of it was painted by Gale and is perfect for the house. The kitchen is very well equipped and there is also an outdoor grill by the pool. We kept meaning to grill supper but never quite got around to it - we went onto island time very quickly and ate out most evenings! There are plenty of places to eat in Poipu and also in Holoa, which is a very nice town with great ice cream at Lamperts and is also very good for gifts. The view from the house is absolutely amazing. I loved having coffee on the lanai in the morning, watching the turtles and boats and I loved having a glass of wine sitting on the lanai in the evening watching the sun go down. Another reviewer mentioned that the pool was not heated - perhaps it wasn't, but I swam most mornings before breakfast and nearly every afternoon which was really nice (I hate cold water and would not have gone in if it wasn't warm enough). We didn't need to use the AC and made use of nature by opening the doors and windows - there is a nice breeze that you can take advantage of. The gardens are beautiful and we met Wilson, the gardener, who was very pleasant (Gale had informed us he was coming and it wasn't an issue for us - the teens slept through him working!)

Gale was extremely helpful contacting us on our arrival and advised us on the best place to buy groceries - the nearest grocery store is fairly expensive. Yes, there are a few reminders around the house about how to use things etc, but that's what keeps the house nice and in good working order.

We visited Waimea Canyon, the North Shore, Spouting Horn (the little craft market there is good) and took several excursions out of Lihue area (a helicopter trip, tubing the Sugar Cane canals and an amazing canoe/hike/swim by a waterfall trip where everybody gets very muddy but has a lot of fun. The house is perfect for day trips and also there is plenty to do in the Poipu area or just relaxing by the pool.

I would definitely recommend staying here and would love to return again. I already miss going to sleep listening to the sound of the sea and I miss the roosters crowing too! Mahalo Gale.

25th Anniversary Get Away : Jon & Jackie

My wife and I decided to spend our 25th Anniversary in Hawaii (along with 3 adult kids). After a week long cruise to all the islands and being on the go, a much needed relaxing place was needed. Hale Hokuu Too was just this place. Gale was a pleasure to work with and very helpful upon us arriving with a phone call regarding local information. The views in the pictures don't do it justice. We enjoyed the pool, Spouting Horn views from the lanai, and watching the turtles each day. The landscaping was amazing with beautiful plants and flowers all around the property. We spent many days at Poipu Beach snorkeling and boogie boarding. Gale also provides a closet full of beach gear (chairs, mats, boogie boards, noodles) just a few that we made use of. The kitchen was laid out nice with plenty of room for our group of 5. We made almost all of our meals there although there were plenty of restaurants around the area. GREAT place to rest and relax! We're hoping to come back soon!

Walls of windows on the oceanfront : Sherri W.

Our family of four, including two teens, stayed in this home for our week on Kauai. The home is spacious, nicely landscaped, well-outfitted and perfect for families with older kids or couples. (If you have little ones you'll have to be vigilant around the pool and seawall.) Walls of windows overlook the ocean. Loved sitting out back at sunset, watching the Spouting Horn and even saw a whale breach out of the water. Washer/dryer meant packing less. Only negative is gardener was there for about three hours using power tools on the one morning we had planned to lounge around the house. In fairness, owner had told us he was coming that day. She is attentive and fair to deal with.

Privacy from neighbors : Dixie

Very nice place with EXCELLENT views, location, and privacy from the neighbors. Although, the owner called very early one morning to tell us to turn off an outside light?????? Maybe they aren't just "motion detectors"? We felt a little micromanaged. The furniture looked great but was not exactly comfortable to sit on in the great room. The oven didn't work and that would not necessarily have been a problem if the gas grill had had a decent flame. I would have expected to receive a little credit for the inconvenience. For the amount of money paid for this property I expected the amenities to be pristine, but, they seemed a little worn and dated (peeling patio furniture, sloppily replaced pool tiles, screen doors falling off the tracks, slow draining showers, burned out light bulbs, etc). Also expected the pool to be heated but it was not. We were a little disappointed over all, but it was still a nice place, just not for that price.

Owner response:

In reference to this review:

My pest control people called and mentioned that the outside lights were left on. I did call my guests to tell them. I called at 8 AM, I did not consider this an early morning phone call. Lots of guests are leaving for the day by this time(or earlier!). The point was to save power consumption and not micro manage.

As far as the Grand Room Furniture, please read my other reviews. The

10' down sectional sofa was purchased from Kriess who has a reputation for upscale and comfortable furniture. The oven stopped working a couple of days prior to their checking out. The company was called and a part was shipped out from the Main Land.

Things on the island do take much longer to handle. (The island way).

The gas barbeque is new and when they complained the head of housekeeping (Mark) went out to check it. He found nothing wrong with the barbeque and spoke to my guests and showed them the best way to use it. By the way, the barbeque was checked prior to them checking in, so we were both surprised about their complaint.

Yes, there were 2 light bulbs in the entire home that were out and they were replaced. The slow draining shower was taken care of. (Hair removed in drain). It happens. Screen doors will fall off the tract if handled roughly. Our pool and landscaping is really beautiful.

There are some people that are impossible to please, what can you do?

Anniversary getaway : The Maurinas

Wow, this is an amazing house and Gail is an awesome owner to deal with. We are very experienced in vacation rentals but, never have dealt with an owner directly until now. We were celebrating our 30th wedding anniversary and stayed here with two adult children (22 and 20)before venturing on to Maui. I wish that we could have stayed here longer. There is a view in every room. If you stand back from the window and look out you feel like you are on a cruise ship. The ocean is so close. You will feel any stored stress dissipate as soon as you walk through the door.

You can tell that Gail loves her home by the way that it is decorated. She has wonderfully comfortable furniture and some very lovely antiques. The beds and linens were great. The kitchen lacks for nothing. Did I mention the view??? Well, it's worth repeating. The Lanai was a wonderful place for coffee in the morning and a glass of wine in the evening. You do not need to go anywhere for a fantastic sunset except through the sliding doors.

The gardens are beautiful and well maintained. You only have one close neighbor and you cannot see them because of the landscaping. If you want peace and quiet, you will chose wisely to rent this house.

It is perfectly located near some of the best beaches and restaurants. A short walk beyond the house are the botanical gardens and Spouting Horn.

Another short walk was to Baby Beach. We snorkeled directly in front of the house but entered from the beach (much safer than climbing over those sharp rocks). We saw so many fish and turtles here that we were disappointed when we took our Snorkel tour on Maui.

This was our third time on Kauai. We have already booked TWO weeks for 2015.

Owner response:

Thank you very much for this top review. We are looking forward to your next stay. I am so glad that you enjoy my home so much. I also love it and love Kauai. See you next year (2015).

Grand ocean views & wonderful sunsets! : Hawaii Fun

My family thoroughly enjoyed our time at Hale Hokuu TOO. Relaxing on the comfortable lanai while enjoying the grand ocean view and especially the sunsets was our favorite activities. The house was well appointed, the kitchen well equipped, and very clean throughout. We all enjoyed the protected beach just steps away, especially my young son. We were very comfortable in the well arranged space as five adults and one child. Gale was very responsive to our questions. Returning to enjoy Hale Hokuu TOO is high on our list!

Owner response:

Thank you for taking the time to do this nice review. Looking forward

to having you come back to Kauai and also Hale Hokuu Too.

Happy Holidays, Aloha Gale

25th Wedding Anniversary Celebration!! Lee

We found this beautiful house 1 year ago and decided this was the place to celebrate our anniversary. Gale could not have been more accommodating as we had trouble coordinating flights from the east coast and had a limited time frame to work with. We were in Hawaii for 12 days and spent the last 5 days at Hale Hokuu Too. To say we saved the best for last is an understatement. There was nothing that could have been added to make this house for perfect for our vacation. Beach chairs, beach towels, flippers, rafts, gas grill, and a well equipped kitchen that make cooking a meal fun. The weather was perfect and allowed for us to use just fans during the day and night and no need to turn on AC. We loved the open air feeling and waking up to see the waves right outside the bedroom balcony door. We enjoyed the convenience of location of this house and spent mornings and early afternoons exploring all sides of the island. But the best part was getting home in the afternoon and waiting for the sunset every day while relaxing on the lounge chairs out at the sea wall and watching the spouting horn and surfers enjoy the waves. We will absolutely be back in the future and hope we don't have to wait 25 years!!!

Owner response:

So glad you enjoyed your vacation at Hale Hokuu Too. Looking forward to your next celebration or vacation at my home. Thank you again,

Gale

Best House Ever : Sandy

When we arrived we were all just in awe of this beautiful home and gardens. The pictures on the site don't do justice to the spaciousness and wonderful views of this fabulous home. We had 6 adults and 2 children and we were so pleased with being able to just relax by the pool and have a beach close by. Eating ice cream at Lapperts and going to Koloa shopping was a hit with everyone. We ate most meals at the house and having a grill was great. The Spouting Horn was visible from the lanai and within walking distance, plus a botanical garden. Gale called to see that we were checked in and let us know she was available if needed. We had no issues with anything and couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our vacation! Waimea Canyon, CJM Stables, Snuba, Smith Family Luau, and just getting off the beaten path were some of the things we all enjoyed, and just talking to the local people to find things to do was helpful. There were several times we saw turtles and seals from the lanai and at the beach. I wish we would have had longer than a week, and I would recommend this home to anyone who wants to experience the beauty of Kauai.

--------------------------------------------------- ---------------- --------------------------------------------------

Perfect! : Mike

We have stayed at many locations in Kauai and all we can say about Gale's house is "WOW"!!! Mornings and evenings on the upper deck, right over and facing the ocean (not your neighbor). Watching Spouting Horn from a distance on our right and outrigger races on our left. Days in/around the pool right against the ocean with privacy from either side. The house is clean with living rooms upstairs and downstairs. Everyone has a place to get away and finally read that book. We were VERY pleasantly surprised at how strong the WiFi connection was handling our multiple devices. We stayed a week and only went to dinner once, preferring grilling our own fish (fresh fish at the Koloa Fish Market) and meals with our own ocean view. However if you prefer getting out more, the house location is a very short drive to multiple restaurants.

The owner Gale is fully engaged in making sure we enjoy our experience. She called upon checking in, recommended places to eat, and was quick to follow up on any questions or a very small issue. We recommend you take advantage of all the fans and opening windows for those warm days while you are in the house and only limit air conditioning in the bedrooms for nights when you are in the rooms. The weekly electricity allowance will cover this usage which is enough. We highly recommend the home for your island vacation!

Wow, this is an amazing house and Gail is an awesome owner to deal with. We are very experienced in vacation rentals but, never have dealt with an owner directly until now. This was our third time on Kauai. We have already booked TWO weeks for 2015.

Perfect!

Waiting

The perfect location. : karla ferguson
