Description from owner

Whether you are interested in Dolphin watching, birding, swimming, boating, fishing or simply watching the sun set, The Texas Court House has it!

We are KID and PET FRIENDLY!!!

We have 5 kids of our own and have tried to include all the things to keep the kids entertained.

!Se Habla Espanol,tambien!

When you are there, it feels like you are a million miles from civilization, but you are in a great community and only 15 minutes to a Super Walmart! You drive throught a lot of ranch land and then, suddenly, you emerge in a Jewel of a place with stilt houses on a wonderful bay.

The Texas Court House is a 5 bedroom house located on Caranchua Bay near Port Lavaca, Texas. Located about halfway between Houston and Corpus Christi on the Texas Coast, Caranchua Bay is convenient to all major cities in Texas.

The Texas Court House is a luxurious two story house covered in Texas Hill-Country Limestone for a unique design not found on any other vacation rental on the Texas Coast. It has two full kitchens - one upstairs and one downstairs! It has two full Master Suites upstairs with an oversized tiled shower and large 2-person Jacuzzi tub in EACH Master Bath. The three bedrooms downstairs are good sized with one doubling as a gameroom complete with fooseball and air hockey for indoor fun! Enjoy a surround sound experience with a movie on the big screen TV and DVD player using our collection of DVDs. There is even a game system with games for the kids (or young at heart) to play. For the little ones, we have a play set out back and kids toys on site.

Right out the front door is Caranchua Bay and your own 200 ft. lighted pier with direct access to the water. Caranchua Bay is full of redfish, shark, trout, flounder, pompano, gafftops, whiting, croakers, sheepheads & drum. There is no commercial fishing in the Bay so fishing is GOOD! Kayaks and basic fishing gear provided. Don't forget to look for the dolphins!

Bring your boat! There is a boat launch nearby and you can tie it up to our pier. Also, with your boat, you have easy access to Matagorda Bay, considerd by all to have some of the best fishing on the Texas Coast!

For the birding enthusiest, this area is teaming with a large variety of bird species including Black-necked Stilts, Ibis, Rosette Spoonbills, Reddish Egrets, Gull and Tern species, Least Turns, Rails and Snipe, wintering Geese, Sandhill Cranes and White-tailed Hawks. You might even see endangered pereghrine falcons, wood storks or

bown pelicans. A loop of the Great Texas Birding Trail goes right down the street the house is on. There are a number of birding sites within a few miles of the house.

Port Lavaca is a short drive away with a sandy beach, museums, shopping, and antiques.

About the area

Texas is warm and humid in this area of the State. Most think of Texas as an dry, arid place filled with Cattle Ranches. That does exist in other parts of the state, but since Texas is the size of France, it has many different areas of climate and fauna. The Texas Court House is located on the coastal plains -- a flat area which is warm in the summer and quite mild in the winter. The photos in the listing were taken in late October and show the still-green vegetation. From the back deck of the house, you can see for 15 km or more. Port Lavaca is a wonderful place with multiple activities within a short distance. With Some of the best fishing anywhere right out your front door, you might not want to go anyplace else. However, if you do want to venture out, there is a 9 hole golf course nearby with a quite reasonable green fee. Also a short drive away is a nice, clean beach with very little wave action for the children. Day trips can be made to the Gulf of Mexico for a beach with larger waves or for deep sea fishing. There is the Aransas Wildlife Refuge nearby with the VERY rare and endangered North American Whooping Crane. There are just over 100 of this bird special alive today and they are right in the area.

“WOW!”

Reviewed 6 May 2014

One of our best vacations ever! This house is a blessed house! Not one complaint do we have. Only praise. A beautiful home, quiet surroundings and a good pier for boating and fishing. I even caught a 40lb Black Drum night fishing on the private pier. We give this place a 10 out of 10. The Raub family is more than accommodating. They even sent by UPS, two extra roll away beds. If you are looking for a fine time with up to 20 folks, this will be your best bet. We will definitely be back.

“Excellent family vacation!!!!”

The Texas Courthouse was awesome. Both master suites have hot tubs. Views from the decks are incredible. Sunrise in the front and sunset in the back. Kayaks were a hit. 150' dock was great to fish off. We caught fish and found oysters. Owners were helpful. The book tells of lots of things to do and places to eat. This is a quiet get away - out from the masses. It was perfect for us!

Had lots of fun in the bay fishing and swimming. Very peaceful and secluded.. thank you again for a wonderful stay.....we had a blast in Texas. Raymond & Lori Williams & Family

“Family Graduation Celebration”

Reviewed 18 May 2011

Decor was charming with a beach theme and home was large enough to accommodate 12 people, which is the limit before a $10 fee a day per person is added. Having two kitchens was definitely a plus. The outdoor sitting areas all around the house gave great moments to soak up the sun--the upstairs one facing the pier gave wonderful views of the water. Homeowners provided many things for various activities. Came to celebrate my graduation with my family members and they all enjoyed their stay. Good place to come together and make great memories. Nice way to get away for a bit. It's not too far from where we live, so we'll probably be coming back for an extended stay soon.

“Just like home away from home!”

Reviewed 2 May 2011

House is really nice. Big and yet cozy. There were 15 people in our party and everyone had a nice, comfortable space to claim. Lots of fish caught. Wind was too strong to venture out for kayaking but kids still had a lot of activities to occupy their time. Weekend stay was way too short to truly appreciate the place. Definitely considering going back. Thanks to the Raub family for allowing us to share their precious place.
